Scelzi Reclaims King of the West Championship Lead Following Top Five at Placerville

Inside Line Promotions – PLACERVILLE, Calif. (July 20, 2015) – Dominic Scelzi is back on top of the King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series championship standings following a fourth-place finish last Saturday at Placerville Speedway.

“Whenever you go to Placerville it’s a toss-up whether you’ll do good or bad,” he said. “I’ve been there a lot where we’ve qualified bad and had to work from the back to the front. Saturday went smooth from the get-go, which was huge for the team as well as in the points.”

Scelzi opened the event by qualifying second quickest around the bullring.

“We started off strong,” he said. “We were the first car out and had a really good lap. We were very close to our second quick time of the year, which I was thrilled about.”

Scelzi then finished fourth in a heat race to lock himself in the dash, which he started on the outside of the third row.

“In the dash we got up to fifth and were fighting for fourth,” he said. “I hit the cushion wrong and ended up falling back to seventh.”

That lined him up on the inside of the fourth row for the main event.

“In the main I worked the bottom for the first half of the race,” he said. “Toward the last few laps I started working the top in turns three and four and then the top all around the track. I got up to third a couple of times, but wasn’t able to keep it. I’m thrilled with a fourth-place finish.”

Scelzi’s fourth-place result was his 11th top five of the season. It also marked his 15th top-10 finish in his last 16 races.

He is slated to compete this Friday at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, Calif., and Saturday at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif., for the Peter Murphy Classic with the King of the West.

Additionally, Scelzi and his brother, Giovanni, were featured in a July 18 article by the Fresno Bee about several young and upcoming racers from the area who are working to achieve lofty dreams as professional drivers.
