Red Horse Racing at Kentucky Speedway

For the 10th race of the 2015 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, teams traveled to Kentucky Speedway in Sparta, Kentucky for Thursday night’s UNOH 225. Final practice and qualifying were both canceled after persistent showers remained in the area throughout the afternoon. Crews were able to dry the track and the field was set by owner points, per the NASCAR Rule Book. With no laps logged this week at the 1.5-mile facility prior to the race, Timothy Peters started from the 10th position and Ben Kennedy began the race in the 14th position. Peters earned a fifth-place result, and Kennedy recorded a 16th-place finish after contact with another vehicle caused race-ending damage.

Timothy Peters Earns Top-Five Finish in the Bluegrass State

Timothy Peters earned his sixth top-10 finish in ten races this season with a fifth-place result at Kentucky Speedway in the UNOH 225. On a rainy day in the Bluegrass State, both the single practice session and qualifying rounds were rained out, so the field was set by owner points per the NASCAR Rule Book. Peters took the green flag in 10th position. The Danville, Virginia native quickly brought his Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra into the sixth position by lap 10. Peters reported the Tundra was free in Turn 2, but tight in Turns 3 and 4. On the competition caution on lap 20, he came to pit road to the attention of crew chief Marcus Richmond and his Red Horse Racing pit crew for four tires, fuel and an air pressure adjustment. Peters continued to fight a tight-handling Tundra throughout the evening and visited pit road a total of five times, with the final stop for two tires and fuel to gain track position during a late caution period. With 25 laps to go, Peters restarted in eighth, and drove his way into fifth by the time the race ended under caution after a wreck caused damage to the catchfence five laps short of the scheduled distance.

Timothy Peters Quote:
“I kind of got off a little bit with what I wanted during the race and Marcus (Richmond) made a good call there the last couple of stops to free me back up and I was able to get all we could on the restarts. We’ll take a top-five finish in our Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra and we’ll just keep building this momentum as we go on to Eldora (Speedway).”

Ben Kennedy Credited with 16th-Place Finish at Kentucky Speedway Following Race-Ending Accident

Ben Kennedy and the No. 11 Local Motors team rolled the black and white Toyota Tundra from the truck to the starting grid at Kentucky Speedway following a long day of rain that canceled both practice and the qualifying session. NASCAR Camping World Truck Series teams were lined up by current owner point standings per the NASCAR Rule Book for the start of the UNOH 225, with Kennedy in the 14th position. He quickly drove into the top 10 and reported a slight tight-handling condition. Crew chief Scott Zipadelli called for routine four-tire pit stops with adjustments to assist with the truck’s balance. The No. 11 team received the Lucky Dog pass during the Lap 100 caution after a pit road penalty rendered the Local Motors Toyota a lap down to the leader and in the 16th position. While running 12th, a second penalty was assessed following the Lap-129 pit stop under caution. After starting from the rear of the field, Kennedy drove back to the ninth position and was powering forward when contact in the right-rear corner of the truck as it entered Turn 1 caused it to soar into the catchfence. Kennedy climbed from the wreckage on his own and was evaluated and released from the infield care center. Due to the damage to the fence, NASCAR called the race complete at 145 laps and Kennedy was credited with a 16th-place result.

Ben Kennedy Quote:
“I’m fine; thank the good Lord for keeping me safe and everything NASCAR does to keep these trucks safe. Had this been a few years ago, I don’t know if I would have gotten out of my truck on my own power like that. I was coming down the front straightaway and I heard clear and I guess the 92 (David Gilliland) got a run on the outside. As soon as I heard clear, I wanted to get a good arc into the corner and I started heading up towards the wall and got hit in the right rear. I guess the rest is history. I was on top of the wall for a while; you don’t know what to expect being up there. Falling down from the wall to the ground is a pretty hard hit as well. Like I said, thank the good Lord for keeping us safe out there and hope we can get them at Eldora (Speedway).”
