Summit Racing–Points Leader Anderson Wants Another Route 66 Raceway Win

Points Leader Anderson Wants Another Route 66 Raceway Win

MOORESVILLE, N.C., July 7, 2015 – Greg Anderson is already starving for another win, and his most recent trip to the winner’s circle was just a handful of days away. That’s what happens when you get a taste of victory after a long period without it, you simply cannot get enough. This year, Anderson seems to be collecting trophies as though they are in limited supply, and as the 2015 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series tour heads to Chicago for the Route 66 NHRA Nationals, the driver of the red Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro has another celebration on his mind.

Route 66 Raceway is a beautiful facility situated on the outskirts of the Windy City in a town called Joliet, and although the race is always a fun event, Anderson had a tough time conquering that particular racetrack. In 2011, he finally earned his first Chicago win after visiting the final round there four times. After winning in Epping this year, Anderson once again has a trophy from every facility on the tour.

“It took me a long time to get that trophy, but I finally did it in 2011,” recalled Anderson. “I’ve always liked that place, but it was just crazy the way that one thing or another would happen and we just couldn’t walk away with the Wally. I’m not usually the guy who worries about stats or keeping track of things like that, but when people keep asking you how come you can’t win at a certain racetrack, it makes you feel bad. I finally accomplished that, and it’s still one of our favorite racetracks. We love going there, and it’s another one of those tracks that is just great for Pro Stock. Our Summit Racing Camaros seem to run really well there, so it’s one that we look forward to each season.

“Once you win somewhere once, you have to prove that you can do it there again. We’ve got ’em all at least once, now we have to find a way to get ’em all twice.”

Anderson is in a prime position to get that second Chicago win as he enters the event in the Pro Stock points lead following the Norwalk victory at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals. In the most recent six national events on the schedule, Anderson has been to the final round five times and picked up three trophies. So far this season, Anderson is a four-time winner in seven final rounds, beginning with the Gainesville win – the 75th of his career – that ended a dry spell dating back to Englishtown in 2012.

“On Sunday in Norwalk, we raced like we are capable of racing, we did what we’re supposed to do. This is a very exciting time for the KB Racing team and our Summit Racing Chevy Camaros,” said Anderson. “Just like I’ve been saying after what seems like every race this year, I can’t wait to get to the next one.”
