Scelzi Leads King of the West into Doubleheader at Ocean and Calistoga

Inside Line Promotions – FRESNO, Calif. (June 23, 2015) – Dominic Scelzi is in a great position heading into a King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series doubleheader this weekend.

Scelzi is coming off his first feature victory of the season and he leads the King of the West championship standings entering events on Friday at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, Calif., for the Pombo/Sargent Classic and Saturday at Calistoga Speedway in Calistoga, Calif., for the Wine Country Classic.

“It’s great when you’re able to put strong runs together and I feel like this year, even though it’s not exactly what I hoped for up to date, we’ve done so much better than last year,” he said. “We’ve got a win. We’ve got momentum. We’re leading the points, which is a huge deal for us.”

Scelzi has an outstanding track record at Ocean Speedway, where he garnered a runner-up result during his lone race this season. It marked the fourth straight year he has recorded a podium finish at the quarter-mile oval.

“I feel like I have a lot of laps around there,” he said. “It’s so unique. It seems like a place people are really good around there or really bad. I always seem to have a strong race car. It’s the type of track I like to go to. Most of the time it’s slick and wide and I really enjoy racing there.”

Scelzi has earned a top-10 finish during each of his 16 races at Ocean Speedway since the start of the 2012 season. Nine of those results were top-five finishes, including a victory in 2012.

This weekend concludes at Calistoga Speedway, which is a scenic half-mile oval.

“Calistoga is one of my favorite tracks as well,” he said. “It’s the biggest track we go to. You have to be really smooth there. I feel really confident going in there.”

Scelzi has scored a top 20 during each of the last two years with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series at the track. He also nabbed a fifth-place result in 360ci action at Calistoga Speedway earlier this year.

Following the King of the West events Scelzi will team up with Dan Monhoff to tackle the Western Sprint Tour Speedweek Sunday through July 4 featuring six races at five tracks in Northern California and Oregon.
