For the eighth race of the 2015 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season, teams traveled to Madison, Illinois and Gateway Motorsports Park. In Saturday morning’s only practice session, Timothy Peters recorded the 13th-fastest time, while Ben Kennedy was 15th fastest. Knockout qualifying was rained out, so those speeds set the starting field. The start of the 160-lap event was delayed several hours after a brief shower wet the track during pre-race ceremonies. Peters crossed the finish line in sixth place, and Kennedy finished right behind him in seventh.

Timothy Peters Finishes Sixth in Rain Delayed Drivin’ for Linemen 200

Timothy Peters brought the No. 17 Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra to a sixth-place finish in the Drivin’ for Linemen 200 at Gateway Motorsports Park. After Saturday afternoon’s knockout qualifying session was canceled due to rain, the lineup was set based on speeds from the morning practice session per the NASCAR Rule Book, and after a rain delay of more than two hours, Peters took the green flag in the 13th position. Peters started the race fighting a loose condition, but was able to maintain position until the first caution on lap 52. He brought the red and white Toyota Tundra to the attention of crew chief Marcus Richmond on pit road a total of three times during six caution periods, and with quick stops from the team and several adjustments, the Danville, Virginia native was able to gain track position to finish in the top 10. Multiple cautions marred the final laps, and the veteran driver navigated the restarts to put his Tundra in sixth position when the checkered flag fell at the 1.25-mile facility.

Timothy Peters Quote:
“It was a hard fought sixth. Everybody on this Red Horse Racing Tundra didn’t give up. Pit stops were great. We salvaged a good run after the last couple of weeks not getting the result that we felt like we deserved. We finally brought home an okay finish, but it’s a start heading into Iowa (Speedway), which is one of my favorite tracks.”

Ben Kennedy Claims a Seventh-Place Finish at Gateway Motorsports Park

Ben Kennedy and the No. 11 Local Motors team earned their third consecutive top-10 finish with a seventh-place result at Gateway Motorsports Park. A sudden downpour during the first round of knockout qualifying resulted in the cancelation of time trials and the field for the Drivin’ for Linemen 200 to be set by the Saturday morning practice speeds. This placed Kennedy and the No. 11 team in the 15th starting position. Following driver introductions, another round of storms delayed the start of the race for more than two hours. When track officials finished drying the 1.25-mile track’s surface, and the green flag was displayed, Kennedy had his hands full with a loose-handling machine. Crew chief Scott Zipadelli called for four tires, fuel and chassis adjustments to the black and white Toyota Tundra during each of the three routine, yellow-flag pit stops, working to get his driver more grip. Late-race cautions plagued the closing laps, and Kennedy and the No. 11 team were able to capitalize and claim a seventh-place finish at the Madison, Illinois race track.

Ben Kennedy Quote:
“We started the night out really loose in our Local Motors Toyota Tundra, and went down a lap early in the race. But we worked on it all night, and got back on the lead lap. At the end of the race, the Tundra was pretty decent, but with all the cautions in the final laps, it just all depended on what line you ended up in for the restarts. Our truck was pretty strong up top, and everyone seemed to struggle on the inside line. Restarts were big and track position was huge here [at Gateway Motorsports Park]. It was good to get another top-10 finish, and tonight was a good points day for us. I’m looking forward to heading to Iowa (Speedway) next weekend.”
