The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series traveled to the Lone Star State this weekend for the seventh race of the 2015 season. In two practice sessions on Thursday afternoon, the No. 17 team posted the 10th and ninth-fastest speeds respectively, while the No. 11 was ninth-fastest in the first and 16th-fastest in the second. On Friday afternoon during knock-out qualifying, both teams were able to transfer to the final round and Timothy Peters secured the seventh starting spot for the WinStar World Casino and Resort 400, while Ben Kennedy locked in the 12th starting position. Peters was running in the top five in the 167-lap event when engine troubles relegated him to a 21st-place finish. Kennedy piloted the Local Motors Toyota Tundra to a 10th-place finish.

Top-10 Finish for Ben Kennedy at Texas Motor Speedway

Ben Kennedy and the No. 11 Local Motors earned a top-10 finish, marking his best result in three career starts at Texas Motor Speedway. The Daytona Beach, Florida native advanced to the third round of qualifying early Friday evening, and claimed the 12th starting position for the seventh race on the 2015 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series schedule. Kennedy wrestled with a tight-handling Toyota Tundra early in the 167-lap event, but the Scott Zipadelli-led team was able to make adjustments during routine green and yellow-flag pit stops to improve the balance. Kennedy broke into the top 10 on lap 103, and despite facing challenges such as being hit on pit road by another competitor that caused left-front fender damage, he remained there and took the checkered flag in the 10th position in the WinStar World Casino and Resort 400.

Ben Kennedy Quote:
“We fought hard for this 10th-place finish. Scott (Zipadelli) and the No. 11 guys never gave up. We gained a position in the (driver’s championship) point standings, and we’ll take this momentum and hope to continue moving forward next weekend at Gateway (Motorsports Park).”

Timothy Peters Relegated to 21st-Place Finish with Engine Trouble at Texas

Timothy Peters and the No. 17 Red Horse Racing team encountered more bad luck at Texas Motor Speedway, when engine issues relegated them to a 21st-place finish after running in the top ten for most of the WinStar World Casino and Resort 400. After recording 10th and 9th-fastest speeds in two practice sessions on Thursday, Peters put the red and white Toyota Tundra in the final round of qualifying on Friday and locked in the seventh starting position. Fighting a tight condition in the early laps, the Danville, Virginia, native brought his machine to the attention of crew chief Marcus Richmond under the first caution on lap 20 and the team put on four fresh Goodyear tires and filled up with Sunoco fuel. After a scheduled green-flag stop, Peters had to return to pit road under caution for four tires, as he had a hole in the right-rear tire. Posting some of the fastest laps in the field, Peters was running in fourth with 50 laps to go, and he took the lead for five laps as green-flag pit stops again began to cycle. Pitting from the lead for the final pit stop, Peters put his Tundra back in the top 5, but on lap 147, his engine expired, resulting in a 21st-place finish.

Timothy Peters Quote:
“It’s a really disappointing result when we had such a good Toyota Tundra. All of our Red Horse Racing guys worked really hard and did a great job working on the truck after we unloaded, and it’s unfortunate that we couldn’t give them the finish they deserved. It was out of our hands, and we’ll come back next week at Gateway (Motorsports Park).”
