Scelzi Rallies from 17th to Seventh During Feature at Keller Auto Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – PLACERVILLE, Calif. (June 2, 2015) – Dominic Scelzi put on a great charge toward the front last Friday at Keller Auto Speedway.

A mechanical issue slowed the team early in the night, which kept Scelzi from getting a qualifying lap in at the 3/8-mile oval in Hanford, Calif., in his family owned, Roth Motorsports backed sprint car.

“I was the first car out for qualifying,” he said. “I went through turns one and two and going into turn three we had an issue with our driveline so I wasn’t able to get a lap.”

The team quickly replaced the driveline and rear end prior to a heat race, where Scelzi maneuvered from eighth to fourth place to lock into the 17 th starting position for the main event.

“We had a really good car,” he said. “I think if we would have got one lap of qualifying it would have been a completely different night. I had a great car all night. Just a circumstance took us out of the running to have a better night.”

Scelzi rallied to pick up 10 positions during the main event to post a seventh-place result, which marked his 13th top 10 of the season.

The weekend concluded on Saturday at Placerville Speedway, where Scelzi piloted Dan Monhoff’s sprint car during the Civil War Sprint Car Series event.

Scelzi opened the night by qualifying 17th quickest before he advanced from sixth to fourth place in a heat race. That earned him the 18 th starting position entering the feature.

“Everyone was around the bottom so I got up top,” he said. “I was pretty much staying in the same spot. A car spun a couple of cars in front of me. The guy in front of me checked up and I got over his right rear and flipped pretty hard. I was just at the wrong place at the wrong time.”

Scelzi was unable to resume the race after a series of flips sent him off the track in turn one.

He is scheduled to return to action this Saturday at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif., for the 3rd annual David Tarter Memorial with the King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series.
