The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series traveled to Dover International Speedway this weekend for the sixth race of the 2015 season. In the single practice session on Thursday afternoon, the No. 17 team posted the 16th-fastest position, while the No. 11 was 18th fastest. The teams returned Friday afternoon for knock-out qualifying, and both teams advanced to the second round, where Timothy Peters locked in the 14th starting spot, while Ben Kennedy picked up the 18th starting position. Peters was running in the top five when a blown right-front tire relegated him to a 20th-place finish. Kennedy posted his best finish so far at Dover with a sixth-place run.

Ben Kennedy Finishes Sixth at the Monster Mile

Ben Kennedy and the No. 11 Local Motors team turned their momentum around with a sixth-place finish at Dover International Speedway on Friday evening. When the Red Horse Racing team unloaded the black and white machine at the ‘Monster Mile’ on Thursday afternoon, they worked to improve the Toyota Tundra’s balance for the Daytona Beach, Florida driver, posting the 18th-fastest speed in the single practice session. They returned Friday and advanced to the second round of time trials, where they secured the 18th starting position for the Lucas Oil 200. Despite starting the 200-lap event with a loose-handling condition, the Scott Zipadelli-led team was able to tighten up the Local Motors Tundra with air pressure adjustments during three routine visits to pit road for service. Kennedy gradually picked his way through the field, and coupled with a solid performance by the pit crew, the No. 11 team took the checkered flag in the sixth position.

Ben Kennedy Quote:
“We had a good rebound with our Local Motors Tundra today at Dover (International Speedway). The guys made really good decisions on the box, and we had solid pit stops every time we came down pit road. Everything really came together today. We started out a little bit free, and worked hard throughout the race. By the end of the race, we had the truck at its best. At that point, we just needed a little more track position. We are really happy with our sixth-place finish, and it was a good points day. I’m glad I only have to wait a week to get back into the truck, and we’ll head to Texas (Motor Speedway) with positive momentum.”

Strong Run at Dover Ends With Blown Tire for Timothy Peters

After posting the 16th-fastest lap in Thursday’s practice session, Timothy Peters piloted the No. 17 Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra to the 14th starting position for the Lucas Oil 200 at Dover International Speedway. When the green flag dropped on the 1-mile, concrete oval, Peters quickly moved into the top 10, jumping into eighth place by the second lap. Crew chief Butch Hylton, subbing for Marcus Richmond, who was home celebrating the birth of his first child, brought Peters to pit road under the second caution period for four tires and adjustments. An excellent stop by the No. 17 team enabled the Danville, N.C. resident to gain track position. On a subsequent caution, the team was able to stay on track while others came to pit road, putting Peters in second place. A rash of cautions slowed the race and Peters was able to continue to restart on the front row, leading three times for five laps. Hylton brought Peters to pit road a second time for fresh tires and to make adjustments on lap 75. The red and white Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra was running in third on lap 136 when a right front tire blew, sending Peters hard into the wall in turn 2. Unfortunately the truck was beyond repair and the team brought it behind the wall. Peters recorded a 20th-place finish.

Timothy Peters Quote:
“We had a good Tundra. It was very encouraging how we raced and I’m proud of the guys because our Tundra was fast all day. We couldn’t help the issue at the end with the tire going down, which was disappointing, but on to Texas (Motor Speedway) next week and hopefully we’ll bring home some six shooters.”
