Summit Racing Driver Anderson Set to Challenge for Title at Sponsor’s Event

COMMERCE, Ga., May 15, 2015 – The 35th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals are off to a grand start for Team Summit and the NHRA Pro Stock duo of Jason Line and Greg Anderson. Line earned the 41st low qualifier award of his career at the event and Anderson made a series of strong passes in his Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro to score valuable bonus points and situate himself nicely in the top half of the field in preparation for his charge toward the trophy.

Anderson clocked a quick and crisp 6.561-second pass at 211.69 mph and was No. 2 at the end of the first session of qualifying in Atlanta. With two bonus qualifying points in his possession, he moved ahead ready for the second session but was halted by a minor issue under the hood. A quick recovery was in order, however, and the Mooresville, N.C.-based driver put a 6.588, 211.33 on the scoreboard in trickier conditions on Saturday.

Just as the first pair of Pro Stock cars approached the starting line for the final session of qualifying that would set the field, a slight cloud cover rescinded, and hot sun bore down on the racing surface necessitating quick, last-minute changes to the tune-up.

“It’s tricky when that happens,” said Anderson. “You might get the spot where you get the clouds, or you might get the sun. It’s just the luck of the draw, but overall, we’re happy about the conditions. The track got better every run.”

Anderson raced to a 6.571 at 211.46 mph that was an admirable third-best for the final round of qualifying and secured him as the No. 6 man in the line-up.

“Even though we missed it a little bit on the set-up today, we’re in the ballpark and definitely looking forward to tomorrow,” said Anderson. “If we hadn’t lost the best qualifying session last night, we really believe we would have qualified higher, but that’s how it goes, and we’ll go into tomorrow with a car that we believe will be able to compete for the win. It would be great for one of our Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaros to get the win here at the Summit Racing Southern Nationals.”

Prior to the first round on Sunday, Anderson and Line will participate in a walk down the racetrack with many of their friends from Summit Racing Equipment. Fans are invited to join in as well, and the track walk is scheduled for a 9:40 a.m. kick-off ahead of 11 a.m. eliminations.

“The weekend has already been very enjoyable for Team Summit,” said Anderson. “There has been great weather and big crowds out here, and we’re having fun. I’m excited about tomorrow. I get to race Chris McGaha in the first round, and I kind of owe him one from the semifinals two weeks ago in Houston. He got me good last race, and hopefully there will be some kind of redemption for me tomorrow. We’ll see if we can come out on top.”
