Anderson and Team Summit Strong on First Day of Southern Nationals

COMMERCE, Ga., May 15, 2015 – Qualifying is off to a strong start for Team Summit at the 35th annual Summit Racing NHRA Southern Nationals. Even with just one clean run down the racetrack on his scorecard for the weekend, Greg Anderson is in the top half of the field with an excellent outlook on Saturday at his sponsor’s event.

In the first session of qualifying, Anderson powered the red Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro to a bright and shiny 6.561-second pass at 211.69 mph to rush right up to the No. 2 spot. Anderson gained a pair of bonus qualifying points for his efforts that were only just behind teammate Jason Line, the provisional low qualifier.

The second session came with a surprising circumstance, however, and Anderson was unable to replicate the clean run down the quarter-mile.

“I thought I heard something wrong on the burnout so I just thought, well, I’m not 100% sure, so I’ll just try to let the clutch out in low gear and see what happens,” said Anderson. “I could tell [the car] didn’t have any power so I just shut it off and coasted on down the track. It’s a minor fix, not a big deal, and all that really happened was we lost a run. I’m bummed about that, but the good news is that there was not catastrophic breakage.”

Anderson ended the first day of qualifying in the No. 6 position, and he will have two more chances to improve with qualifying set to continue on Saturday at the Summit Racing Southern Nationals.

“We’ll be okay for tomorrow,” said Anderson, a six-time low qualifier in Atlanta and a four-time winner at the Georgia facility. “Today was definitely a good day for Team Summit, and it was almost a great day. I think I could have been right there with Jason on the second run, but we’ll do that tomorrow. I still feel good. It was a good day all in all and hopefully even better tomorrow.”
