Scelzi Scores Podium Finish During 25th annual Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial

Inside Line Promotions – CHICO, Calif. (May 4, 2015) – Dominic Scelzi celebrated his 18th birthday by earning a podium finish last Saturday during the 25th annual Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial.

The third-place result at Silver Dollar Speedway propelled Scelzi into second place in the King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series championship standings – only two points out of the lead.

“I wish we could have got a win, but I’m really happy with a podium,” he said. “We went forward every time we were on the track. I felt really comfortable and the car was great. The best guys in California run the series and there were no slouches there. Everybody that we raced against was a top-notch driver. To come out third and have such a fast race car was a big boost.”

Scelzi opened the night by qualifying third quickest out of 31 competitors on the quarter-mile oval.

“We timed in pretty good,” he said. “We went out first so the track was slick and we were able to put in a good lap. We were all really happy with it.”

Scelzi then advanced from fourth to third place in a heat race to earn a spot in the dash, which he finished fifth in to line up on the inside of the third row for the main event.

“We tightened our car up a lot for the feature,” he said. “They reworked the race track. It was pretty hooked up the first 10 or 15 laps. We worked the bottom and got up to fourth. As the track slicked off it got wider and we were able to make a run up to third. With the way lapped traffic and restarts fell we dropped back to fifth or sixth, but drove back up to third at the end.”

It was Scelzi’s sixth top five of the season.

He is set to compete with the King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series this Saturday at Petaluma Speedway in Petaluma, Calif., where he has finished fifth each of the last two years.
