Anderson Continues to Steam Steadily Ahead with Solid First Day in Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev., April 10, 2015 – The momentum train that Greg Anderson rode into Vegas is still steaming steadily ahead, and the driver of the red Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro kept the pace on the first day of qualifying for the SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Anderson scored a bonus qualifying point and is provisionally holding down the No. 3 spot at his sponsor’s main event and team owner Ken Black’s home track.

The desert air and warm temperatures at the altitude track did not dissuade the seven-time Las Vegas winner, and in the first session of qualifying, Anderson blasted to a 6.642-second pass at 208.65 mph that placed him neatly in the No. 6 spot. Of course, for Team Summit, that was not enough.

“That run was a good start,” said Anderson. “But it was a conservative start. We were able to get after it a little harder there the second run, and the performance improved. There is no question that we can get after it again tomorrow and get better. The racetrack is really good, and our Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro is a good, good racecar. We made two very smooth runs today, and we know we can lean on it a little bit harder tomorrow. We’re very pleased after day one here in Las Vegas.”

Anderson improved to a 6.621 at 208.81 mph in the later session to pick up a bonus point and move up to third in the lineup. Seven of the 12 available bonus points were in the Summit Racing camp at the conclusion of the first day of qualifying with Anderson’s KB Racing teammate Jason Line sitting at the top of the heap.

On Saturday, Line will compete in the K&N Horsepower Challenge, a three-round bonus event for the Pro Stock players.

“That will be a big focus for our team tomorrow, because we want that K&N Horsepower Challenge trophy. We’ll do all that we can to support Jason,” said Anderson. “And then on Sunday, hopefully we can get both of our Summit Racing Chevy Camaros to the final round. Right now, the ladder is set up perfectly for us, and if it stays that way, we’ll be very, very happy. It was a positive day in the Summit Racing camp. Right now my car is telling us it wants to run faster, and that makes me very optimistic for the rest of the weekend.”
