Scelzi Garners Fourth-Place Finish with King of the West at Placerville

Inside Line Promotions – PLACERVILLE, Calif. (April 7, 2015) – Dominic Scelzi earned his first top five of the season with the King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series last weekend.

Scelzi rallied from 11th to finish fourth at Placerville Speedway on Saturday night.

“It went pretty well,” he said. “We drew a really good number and went out second for qualifying. I didn’t put down the best laps, but we ended up ninth quickest.”

Scelzi’s ninth-place qualifying result lined him up on the outside of the front row for a heat race.

“Right from the get-go I felt a bad vibration from the rear end,” he said. “I was trying to limp it to the finish.”

Scelzi ended with a third-place finish in the heat race, which locked him into the main event. His Roth Motorsports backed team quickly changed the rear end prior to the feature, which he started on the inside of the sixth row.

“I can’t thank the Roth team enough for helping us out,” he said. “They were a huge, huge help. The track was really, really slick in the feature. I just stayed on the bottom the whole race and was patient.”

Scelzi maneuvered into third place prior to a late-race caution.

“On a restart with about six laps to go I was fighting for second and I missed the bottom so (Shane) Golobic got back by me,” he said. “It was definitely not where we want to be, but we’ll take a top five.”

Scelzi will return to action with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series this Saturday and Sunday at Calistoga Speedway in Calistoga, Calif., for the Wine Country Outlaw Showdown. The doubleheader is also co-sanctioned by the King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series.

Additionally, Scelzi will drive a 360ci sprint car for Dan Monhoff on Saturday with the Civil War Sprint Car Series.

“It’s a place I’ve been fast and had speed,” he said. “I look forward to racing all three races. I’d love to get three top 10s.”
