Giovanni Scelzi Fights Tough Luck for the Second Straight Race

Inside Line Promotions – VISALIA, Calif. (March 30, 2015) – Giovanni Scelzi is searching for a horseshoe to secure a bit of luck.

Scelzi was in contention to at least score a podium finish if not register a victory last Friday at Plaza Park Raceway when bad luck forced him out of the micro sprint feature around the midpoint of the race.

“We’ve shown speed,” he said. “We just haven’t had the luck to finish the races. It’ll come with time.”

Scelzi opened the event by qualifying eighth quickest around the bullring.

“We went back to a stock motor, which was about 10 or 15 horsepower down,” he said. “We have to change the gear to make up the difference and we didn’t have the right gear in for qualifying.”

However, Scelzi led the distance of his heat race to lock himself into the main event, which he started seventh.

“I won the heat by about a straightaway,” he said. “In turns one and two the track was pretty wet and in turns three and four it was dry. They reworked the track before the main event and it was a really racy race track. The track was absolutely perfect. They couldn’t have done a better job.”

Scelzi maneuvered into third place within the first dozen laps of the feature before a rock hit the oil filter and broke it approximately halfway through the 30-lap feature. Scelzi was unable to finish the race and he was credited with a 16th-place result.

“It’s frustrating, but that’s just part of racing,” he said. “At least we had the speed to be a contender. That’s something we can hang our hats on right now.”
