Summit Racing–Anderson Takes Momentum to Site of Much Success at Four-Wide Nationals

Anderson Takes Momentum to Site of Much Success at Four-Wide Nationals

MOORESVILLE, N.C., March 25, 2015 – As the most recent winner on NHRA’s 2015 Mello Yello Drag Racing Series tour, Summit Racing Pro Stock driver Greg Anderson can’t wait to get back in his racecar. Last year, at the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals, Anderson sat out as he recovered from heart surgery – but his fast and feisty Chevrolet Camaro was wheeled to victory by Swedish stand-in Jimmy Alund. This time around, Anderson is planning a repeat at a facility where Team Summit has quite a track record, and he is charging into Concord still riding a wave of momentum after earning the 75th national event win of his career two weeks ago in Gainesville.

The 6th annual NHRA-Four Wide Nationals at illustrious zMAX Dragway in Concord, N.C., is an event twice won by Anderson: once in 2011 and then again in 2012. Undefeated in zMAX Dragway final rounds, Anderson is a three-time winner at the Charlotte-area facility and also owns a trophy scored at the fall race in 2010.

Despite the challenge of racing four across, the Mooresville, N.C.-based driver has to admit that the format has worked in their team’s favor. Last season, Alund added a third Four-Wide trophy to the KB Racing team’s collection. For Anderson, seeing a teammate win in his own Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro held both thrill and heartbreak.

“I was very proud of Jimmy and the race team, but boy what a strange feeling knowing that’s my racecar and where I’m supposed to be. But that just shows you what kind of team we’ve got – it’s a very deep team, and seeing what we can accomplish certainly gives us a lot of confidence, especially heading into this weekend at this particular racetrack,” said Anderson.

The racing surface at zMAX Dragway was recently completely renovated in preparation for the event, and Anderson had the opportunity to take his lucky red Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro, hot off of a Gatornationals win, out for a test session.

“Coming right off the win in Gainesville, my Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro went right to the brand new racing surface there at zMAX Dragway and went right down the track, smooth as can be,” said Anderson. “I was the very first car to make an attempt, and we had no issues whatsoever. That tells you how great my racecar is, and it tells you how great of a job they did with that racetrack. We made 13 runs, and they were all perfectly smooth and fast. My hat is off to zMAX Dragway and the folks there. It’s a great place to race, and the Summit Racing team is fortunate that we can call it home.

“You know, this time last year, I hadn’t even been able to get back in the racecar yet. I was standing on the sidelines with no idea if I would be able to do this again. A lot of crazy things went through my mind, but those are all in the past. I have no worries or concerns. This is a completely different chapter, and so far, it’s a pretty great one.”
