RYAN NEWMAN, NO. 31 CATERPILLAR CHEVROLET SS, met with members of the media at Atlanta Motor Speedway and discussed his outlook for next weekend’s race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, looking forward to warmer weather and other topics. Full Transcript:

WHAT ARE THE KEYS TO GETTING AROUND LAS VEGAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY?
“In Vegas the bumps in (turns) one and two really dictate your lap speed and how much speed you can carry off Turn 2 down the back straightaway, which is significant. Just having a car that rides good over those bumps which I assume have only gotten worse not better.”

YOU MENTIONED THE BUMPS, IS THAT THE HARDEST PART TO FIGURE OUT THERE?
“It dictates your straightaway speed on the backstretch and that is a big part of it. Keeping yourself in contention to be able to pass somebody in (turns) three and four is a big part of it.”

DO YOU HAVE ANY PLANS TO VISIT ANYTHING? WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING TO VISIT OUT IN VEGAS?
“Usually for me it’s just good food, good people. I have some friends out there. I’m not a gambler.”

THREE WEEKS IN A ROW DO YOU HAVE PLANS TO STAY OUT THERE?
“The only plan I’ve got is between Phoenix and Vegas to go snowmobiling in Utah. That’s it.”

DO YOU REMEMBER YOUR FIRST INTERVIEW AS A DRIVER AND HOW IT WENT?
“No, I was probably four or five years old, so I don’t remember. I got the newspaper article from the interview, but I don’t remember doing it.”

HAVE YOU ALWAYS BEEN COMFORTABLE DOING INTERVIEWS OR IS THAT ONE THING THAT TOOK A LITTLE GETTING USED TO?
“I wouldn’t say I’ve always been comfortable. There have been times I’ve been uncomfortable, but it’s part of what the job is. I’m alright doing it.”

ANY ADVICE YOU CAN OFFER A YOUNG DRIVER IN TERMS OF GIVING INTERVIEWS?
“No matter what you do be yourself. If that makes you nervous then that is fine, but be honest with your answers.”

ARE YOU READY FOR THREE WEEKS IN THE WEST?
“I don’t know that it is guaranteed to be warm out there, but yeah something warmer than 45 (degrees) would be nice.”
