Summit Racing–Anderson Sees Brighter Days Ahead at Phoenix NHRA Event

Anderson Sees Brighter Days Ahead at Phoenix NHRA Event

MOORESVILLE, N.C., February 18, 2015 – Greg Anderson and his striking white Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro are in fit form and prepared to make a charge towards the trophy at this weekend’s 31st annual CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Nationals at Wild Horse Motorsports Park near Phoenix. Anderson, of Mooresville, N.C., has a long history of success on the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series circuit, and his four championship titles and 74 national event wins echo strongly in his mind as he races into the second of 24 events on the 2015 tour.

Two weeks ago, at the season-opener in Pomona, Anderson qualified in the top half of the field in testament to the KB Racing power under the hood of his Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro. This week in Phoenix, he intends to go the distance on raceday, as he has once before in the Valley of the Sun with a 2003 win.

“We didn’t back things down enough when the sun came out last week and we shook the tires, and it was unfortunate because I felt good,” said Anderson. “But it gave us an opportunity to think about how we do things, and maybe it was a good reminder for us to start the season. It was still a good day – my teammate Jason Line won the race for Team Summit, and that made us all very happy. Ken and Judy Black were there smiling with us in the winner’s circle, and it was a great day for our team.

“This is a new week, a new race. I feel like we had a good winter and we have a very good chance to win again this year. It’s as tough as ever in this category, no question about it, but I can compete. And I know my car is going to run better and better. I’ve got brighter days coming, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the sun came out for us there in Phoenix this weekend.”

The Phoenix event will mark the 358th NHRA Pro Stock race for Anderson, one of the winningest drivers in the category. Anderson’s 74 victories are only behind 85-time Pro Stock winner Bob Glidden and 97-time victor Warren Johnson. The Summit Racing driver’s most recent win was in 2012 at the NHRA Summernationals in Englishtown, and last season he came quite close to securing a 75th title with three final round appearances but each time came up just short.

“It was great to see Jason on stage last weekend after the win at the Winternationals, and I know I’m going to be back up there, too,” said Anderson. “If it’s not this weekend, it will be the week after. I have all the confidence in the world, and don’t anybody give up on me. Hopefully, we will have made a gain or two when we come out there this weekend and we’ll be better than ever. We’d like to be up on that stage again.”
