Giovanni Scelzi Earns Four Top 10s During Doubleheader at Plaza Park

Inside Line Promotions – VISALIA, Calif. (Sept. 28, 2014) – Giovanni Scelzi put together a consistent weekend at Plaza Park Raceway.

Scelzi earned a pair of fifth-place results and two sixth-place finishes during the micro sprint doubleheader on Friday and Saturday.

“I’ve had a lot of top-five finishes this year, but I’m really looking for wins,” he said. “It could have went a little better, but some stupid stuff happened that got in the way.”

Scelzi and his team struggled to find forward bite in his nonwing car on both nights. He qualified fourth quickest on Friday and seventh on Saturday before advancing through his heat race each night. However, grip was lacking in the main events.

“We were good, but just struggled with the forward bite,” he said. “It was a racy race track both nights. We couldn’t quite get our stuff figured out.”

Scelzi finished sixth in the nonwing feature on Friday and fifth in the main event on Saturday.

Things were a little better in the winged car as Scelzi timed in fifth quickest on Friday before finishing second in his heat race. Unfortunately, traffic bit Scelzi during the main event as he placed sixth.

“We were just too free,” he said. “We couldn’t get the car rolling early. We were bouncing really hard. I was making bad decisions on the race track and lapped traffic was our kryptonite.”

The weekend concluded on Saturday with the winged feature.

“We probably should have won in the winged class, but we had a parts failure,” he said. “The right front spindle broke and I got hit by another car in the heat race and that hurt us for the feature.”

Scelzi, who qualified second quickest, was unable to finish the heat race. He lined up on the inside of the seventh row for the main event.

“The cushion was right up on the wall,” he said. “I was running that most of the race and trying to get by cars as fast as I could. I just ran out of laps. If we had 10 more laps I think it could have been interesting.”

Scelzi put on a show charging from 13th to a fifth-place result, which marked his 15th top five of the season.
