Currie Captures a Podium Finish in Glen Helen
Teams heads North for Off-Road Racing Debut at Famous
Sturgis Motorcycle Rally
Corona, Calif. (August 4, 2014)—Currie and his team took to their home track this past weekend at Glen Helen Raceway. With family and friends coming to watch Currie battle with the best, the pressure was on the driver of the #2 Monster Energy ProLite. Rounds 9&10 of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series were under held under the lights, in front of packed stands and even a promise of rain.
Qualifying in the group B of the ProLite class proved beneficial for Currie as he would position himself for a front row start in round 9. The heat of the day continued on into the night and Currie staged for the third race. Fans got an action packed race from the Pro4 class and the ProLites were ready to put on just as much of a show. The green flag flew for the 20 trucks as all of the drivers were attempting to make their way to the front.
Currie found himself on the bumper of RJ Anderson who took over the lead immediately. With 14 laps to make a pass on Anderson, Currie waited patiently for Anderson to make a mistake. Along with trying to make the pass for the lead, Currie would need to watch who was trying to make a pass on him as well. Currie held his position but was never able to complete the pass on Anderson and crossed the finish line in 2nd place.
“This was a fun race and it was great to put in solid clean laps while fighting for the lead.” Stated Currie. “It felt great to put on a show for the fans and be able to get on the podium for my family and friends.”
Rain plagued the skies in round 10 and the race wouldn’t give Currie the same results as round 9. Currie came out of turn one in the sixth position and with mud packing on the truck and his visor, it made it difficult for not only Currie, but also all the drivers to see the chaos taking place around them. Currie pushed hard and would consistently race for a spot in the top 5. After 14 laps on the muddy course Currie would finish his weekend with a 5th place finish. Currie now stands 4th in points for the season and with three more race weekends left in the season he has a chance to move up and take over 3rd in points.
After 2 nights of racing, Currie and his team quickly hit the road and made their way to Sturgis, South Dakota where Currie will be racing his ProLite in the first ever TORC “Battle At The Chip.” Thousands of new fans attending the famous Sturgis Motorcycle Rally will get a first hand look at Short Course Racing and Currie is thrilled to be apart of history in the making on August 5th and 6th.
