Solid Start Slots Anderson Third in Atlanta
Event: 32nd annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals
Location: Atlanta Dragway, Commerce, Georgia
Day/Date: Friday, May 4, 2012
Summit Racing driver Greg Anderson got off to a good start on Friday at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals in Atlanta, Ga. posting the third-quickest run in each of the two sessions. After opening with a 6.647-second, 208.17 mph pass, he picked up the pace on his second attempt, improving to a 6.625-second elapsed time and a top speed of 208.62 mph.
Having established a strong baseline for his Atlanta Dragway tune-up, Anderson looked forward to the final two sessions on Saturday, where he hoped to further improve his standing for Sunday’s final eliminations.
“My Summit Racing Pontiac made two solid runs today,” said Anderson. “Of course, we always want to be faster, but we have a good tuning base for tomorrow. I do feel like the morning session will be the best, so it was important to put it through the goal posts twice today, giving us a good direction with the tune-up. I think we’re close, and hopefully we’ll chisel on her a little bit overnight and get even closer yet.
“Obviously, Jason’s (teammate and provisional No. 1 qualifier Line) car is fast again and it looks like Ronnie’s (Humphrey in the Genuine Hot Rod Hardware Pontiac, who currently sits 4th) is in the ball park, giving us three cars in the top four today. Hopefully, tomorrow we can come out and make it three out of three.”
