Chevy Racing–NASCAR Media Day–Danica Patrick

An interview with:
DANICA PATRICK, NO. 10 NATURE’S BAKERY CHEVROLET SS:
DANICA PATRICK: — more confident I could get a top-10 finish at Atlanta than I feel confident that I could get a top-10 finish at Daytona just because it’s such a crapshoot. You have to have so much luck on your side. You have to avoid the accidents, be at the right place at the right time, have smooth pit stops, make good decisions on the track. There’s just a lot that you can’t count on. Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR Media Day–Danica Patrick

YOU’VE BEEN REALLY STRONG IN SPEEDWEEKS. DO YOU THINKTHIS IS THE BEST CAR YOU’VE BROUGHT TO DAYTONA?
“I think so. The good thing is that we know we’ve always had success at these racetracks. What I really like about our performance so far this year is to have natural speed out of the car like we had in qualifying was important because we thought we made gains. The tools at the shop and the little bit of wind tunnel time that we had, reviewing the scans, and the information that we get from RCR is important. When Germain Racing takes an RCR chassis and then build a body on our own back in the fab shop, there are a million different ways that you can mess that up. Our guys really paid attention to the details. We thought we made gains based on the tools that we had and we came back and were faster, so anytime that you can validate the work that you do is what’s encouraging. WERE YOU GUYS EVERY WORRIED THAT YOU WOULDN’T GET A CHARTER THIS YEAR?
“Definitely. My whole offseason was wondering if, first off, if the Charter System was going to come in place. There were times talking to Harry (Scott) that it was, you know, ‘I don’t think this is going to happen’, then next week it was ‘hey, this is going to happen.’ Having a full time sponsor, it was tough to go to them and saying that, ‘hey, we might not make the biggest race of the year.’ Especially the Daytona 500 and the circumstances it takes to get into the race. There are so many things that are out of your control. It’s hard to go to a sponsor that has committed to you for the full season and say ‘we might not make it.’ We are very fortunate that Harry was able work out the deal that he did. Last year, this week was the most stressful week of my life. This year, you can kind of breathe and focus more on the race rather than on Thursday. I think that is something totally different than what we were doing last year. Last year we were totally focused on the Duels, because we had to be top 15 in that race to make the 500. So this year we can really think about Sunday more than Thursday, unlike last year.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR Media Day–Michael Annett

ON RACING AT DAYTONA INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY:
“I’ve liked coming here since I was kid racing Go-Karts. I can remember with my mom and dad getting up at 4 in the morning from our hotel to park out in front of the old speedway because they would line-up like a thousand Go-Kart trucks and trailers and you might wait two or three hours in line for all the people to get in the garage. So, this has been a fun race track since I was a kid. Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR Media Day–Jamie McMurray

YOU’VE BEEN THROUGH THIS FOR QUITE SOME TIME NOW. DESCRIBE THE WAY THE SEASON EBBS AND FLOWS.
“It’s momentum for sure. We’re locked in such a tight box rules-wise that if you can find one little advantage, you see a guy run really well until the rest of the garage catches up. There’s not a lot of secrets in the garage. People talk a lot, so if someone has an advantage then it gets evened out pretty quickly. You see momentum, though. Kyle (Busch) won four or five races in a short span. Joey (Logano) won three in a row in the fall. So there’s definitely a lot of momentum involved. But there are tricks and people catch on.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR Media Day–Paul menard

An interview with:

CHASE ELLIOTT, NO. 24 NAPA AUTO PARTS CHEVROLET SS:

Q. Has it been a whirl the last couple of days?
CHASE ELLIOTT: It’s definitely been busy I guess the past couple days, with everything on Sunday happening like it did, which is great. It was a good way to start things off for our entire team and for NAPA, their first year back in Cup, kind of, other than the five races we ran last year.
We’re excited to be back. Definitely ready to get back to the racetrack. Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR Media Day–Chase Elliott

TELL US YOUR VIEW OF THE NEW ‘OT’ SITUATION. HOW IS THAT GOING TO WORK VERSUS THE OTHER WAY?
“I think the overtime line in that situation is a halfway safe guarantee of giving the fans something they deserve and at the same time trying to keep it safe for us. The multiple-attempt part of it is a good thing. No matter what kind of system we have, there always will be an opportunity of manipulation. It’s up to the drivers as responsible representation of their owners, the series and themselves to not have what happened at Talladega again.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR Media Day–Ryan Newman

Joey Saldana led the field to the green flag in the 30-lap feature at Volusia Speedway Park but it was Kasey Kahne Racing’s Sweet who dominated much of the night. Sweet battled past Saldana for the lead on a lap 10 restart and even with a late race challenge from Lucas Wolfe, remained out front for the succeeding 20 laps. “It’s unbelievable,” Sweet said. “The competition is so stiff that you have to put yourself in position each and every time you’re on the race track and it’s not easy, one mistake and you’re behind the eight ball. Tonight we did pretty much everything right, and luckily the dash draw helped us there because it was going to be a tough track to pass on.” Continue reading World of Outlaws–Gator Love: Brad Sweet Claims Victory, Big Gator Trophy

ARE YOU SURPRISED BY HOW WELL IT WENT THIS WEEKEND? “It felt like we made good progress (over the winter and in preseason testing), but you just don’t know until you show up with everybody on the same racetrack. I think we were better than I expected, and that’s a nice feeling.”
BO BUTNER, JIM BUTNER AUTO CAMARO SS PRO STOCK: “The KB team really flexed some muscles. I think we’re going to be tough for the first three or four races. “This is a very, very cool day. I don’t know that this opportunity has sunk in yet, much less sitting on the pole for the Daytona 500. So this is very cool. I think the big thing is just the team and the Daytona 500 qualifying is about the team guys and the effort they put into these cars and it’s nothing special I did, it’s really what kind of work they did this off-season to make it happen. “It’s kind of a relief to be over that hill of having that DNF that’s been haunting us for I guess 180 races or whatever,” Schatz said. “Now we can just focus on trying to win races.”

The win is Schatz’s second of DIRTcar Nationals after he won the second All Star Circuit of Champions night.

Schatz started the night by being second quick in qualifying but it was Daryn Pittman who took the quick time for the second straight night.

Chad Kemenah led the field to the green flag in but Sweet quickly overpowered him, taking over the lead after a short battle on lap four. Continue reading Donny Schatz Rebounds, Picks Up Second Win at DIRTcar Nationals
