Scelzi Set for Debut at Bakersfield, Perris and USA Raceway This Weekend

Inside Line Promotions – FRESNO, Calif. (April 11, 2016) – Dominic Scelzi will make his debut at a trio of tracks this weekend with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.

Scelzi will tackle Bakersfield Speedway in Bakersfield, Calif., on Friday for the Budweiser Bash before competing on Saturday at Perris Auto Speedway in Perris, Calif., for the SoCal Showdown and Monday at USA Raceway in Tucson, Ariz., for the NAPA Wildcat Shootout.

“I’ve been to Perris to watch one non-wing race,” he said. “Other than that I haven’t been to any of them. I think we’re going to go in with the same mindset we’ve had for pretty much the whole year. We want to time in decent during qualifying and move forward in our heat race to give us a good starting position. If we can run in the top 10 in each feature that’ll be great for us.”

Scelzi is coming off his career-best World of Outlaws result when he charged from 12th to a fourth-place result on April 2 at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif., during the Mini Gold Cup. He also powered from 18th to eighth during a World of Outlaws event in California two weeks prior.

“This is the best I’ve ever started a season in any year I’ve run the sprint car,” he said. “I have more confidence now than I’ve ever had. I feel so comfortable in my Schnee Chassis and these motors are running great. I’m excited for this weekend to learn and see how I’ll do as a driver.”

Last weekend’s Wine Country Outlaw Showdown at Calistoga Speedway in Calistoga, Calif., was rained out.

In addition to winning payouts of $10,000 on Wednesday and $20,000 on Thursday and Saturday, a special race Friday will pay a guaranteed winner’s purse of $100,000, but if more than 550 cars are entered, that number goes up to $1 million.

“This is going to be a fun week of racing,” said Jeg Jr., a six-time NHRA world champion. “They’re rolling out a new format with the usual $10K-to-win and $20K-to-win races on Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday, but the big one Friday is going to be a progressive jackpot that will grow accordingly to how many cars are in the field. It could be a huge payout, maybe even a $1 million.”

Rough Night At Texas Leaves Blaney 29th In Duck Commander 500

April 10, 2016

Ryan Blaney and the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane team had a fast Ford Fusion for Saturday’s Duck Commander 500 at Texas Motor Speedway as evidenced by his seventh-place starting spot. But a series of events and a lack of proper balance on the chassis set-up relegated the team to a 29th-place finish, four laps behind the leaders.

Team co-owner Eddie Wood said the team struggled with a tight handling condition all night, and the problems were compounded by two unscheduled pit stops, both for vibrations.

One was a suspected loose wheel, the other was indeed a loose wheel. Continue reading Wood Brothers Racing–Rough Night At Texas Leaves Blaney 29th In Duck Commander 500

Ty Dillon drives No. 95 Nexium 24HR Chevrolet to 20th-place finish at Texas Motor Speedway

“Tonight we had a car that was capable of finishing inside the top 20, and that’s exactly what we did. Todd (Parrott, crew chief) and crew made great adjustments and kept up with the changing track condition. I think the biggest thing I learned tonight was that these races are long, but there still isn’t much room for error. I enjoyed the opportunity to race in the Sprint Cup Series this past weekend and felt this was a great opportunity to get better as a race car driver and gain valuable experience. I look forward to the next opportunity to race in the No. 95 Chevrolet.

Austin Dillon and Dow Energy & Water FlexsoLyt Chevrolet Team Show Speed and Consistency at Texas Motor Speedway despite Late-Race Incident

“We took a chance and chose to stay out on old tires and it didn’t work out for us tonight. I was trying to get all I could and it’s part of trying to win a race. We put ourselves in a position to be out front. I don’t know if somebody got into me. I just wish we could redo it. We’re learning. We had another fast racecar. I don’t know why we were put a lap down for a speeding penalty when we came down pit road to make repairs. Usually, the penalty for speeding is tail end of the longest line, so that lost us a couple of spots, too, but we’ll take it and go on. We just have to keep fighting and build fast racecars. I’m definitely encouraged by the way this team has been performing.”

Paul Menard Fights Adversity to Finish 26th at Texas Motor Speedway in the No. 27 Rockstar Energy/Menards Chevrolet SS

“Something was off about our car all weekend. We made some gains in final practice but handling changed with the rain delay and cold temperatures. It just wasn’t our night with the NASCAR penalty and getting caught up in that wreck late in the race. That’s ok though, we’ll regroup on Monday and check our notes to see what we could’ve done differently.”

– Paul Menard

Late-Race Incident Plagues Ryan Newman and No. 31 Caterpillar Team

“Tonight wasn’t our night. We started off the run tight and as more rubber was laid down, we got loose. There weren’t a lot of cautions, so we made green-flag pit stops and fell a lap down to the leader. With most of the stops under green, we didn’t have many opportunities to get our lap back, especially after we got caught up in a wreck towards the end of the race. The right-side of the car was tore up but not enough to take us out of the race. The Caterpillar team never gave up, that’s something to be proud of.”

DALE EARNHARDT, JR. LEADS TEAM CHEVY WITH STRONG SECOND PLACE FINISH AT TEXAS
Three Chevy SS Drivers In Top 5

FT. WORTH – (April 10, 2016) – Dale Earnhardt, Jr.’s runner-up effort in the No. 88 Nationwide Chevrolet SS led a contingent of Team Chevy drivers to the checkered in the Duck Commander 500 at Texas Motor Speedway (TMS), Round 7 of the 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. This was Earnhardt, Jr.’s sixth top 5 finish at TMS in 25 starts; and his fourth top 10 of 2016.

“We had a fast car, probably good enough to win,” said Earnhardt, Jr., following the 334-lap race which started nearly two hours behind schedule due to inclement weather. “We finished up where we should have. We need a win. We’d love a win; I know our fans want a win really bad. Trust me, we’re all working really hard and running great every week. Hopefully that’s fun for everyone to watch. I had a blast inside the car – a lot of sliding around sideways and good, hard racing.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Texas–Post Race

DALE EARNHARDT, JR., NO. 88 NATIONWIDE CHEVROLET SS – FINISHED 2ND
ON HIS SECOND-PLACE FINISH:
“We got a little behind and got caught on pit road on that one caution. We had a fast car, probably good enough to win. Martin (Truex Jr.) probably had the best car, but the best car doesn’t always win. Kyle (Busch) did a great job on the outside on that last restart. Truss’s tires were worse than I thought. We finished up there where we should have. We need a win. We’d love a win; I know our fans want a win really bad. Trust me man, we’re all working really hard and running great every week. Hopefully that’s fun for everyone to watch. I had a blast inside the car – a lot of sliding around sideways and good, hard racing. We’ll go to the next one I guess and try again.”

COULD YOU HAVE CAUGHT KYLE BUSCH?
“I didn’t think Kyle was making any missteps up there. He was running some pretty competitive laps. I don’t think we could have caught him. Kyle just kind of got too far out there, and Kyle knows how to hammer down when it matters. We had a great car. We got caught out on pit road there one time with a crash and got the lucky dog. We were in the top-three all night. I’m really happy with the Nationwide Chevy. The guys did an amazing job putting a great racecar on the track. We’re fast every week. Wins are going to come. We just have to keep doing this and it’ll be our day one day.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Texas– Post Race

Austin Dillon Rallies Against Tight-Handling Chevrolet to Finish Eighth in Ruud/Smurfit Kappa Chevrolet at Texas Motor Speedway

“The Ruud/Smurfit Kappa Chevrolet was tight for the entire race. Danny Stockman made good calls on pit road, but we couldn’t get the No. 2 Chevrolet dialed in to where we needed to be. We made some gains during the middle part of the race but when I was in traffic, the car just tightened up too much. It felt like the right-front tire was wearing a lot faster than it should because we were so tight. We have a lot of work to do. We aren’t giving up. We’ll get it figured out and get back to Victory Lane.”

Late-Race Tire Issue Leads to 13th-Place Finish for Ty Dillon and the No. 3 Bulwark Chevrolet Camaro Team

“Tonight was just a case of bad luck at the end of race. We had a car that was good enough to finish in the top-five, but we had a late-race tire issue. Things like this happen, but I’m definitely proud of the speed that we brought tonight. We didn’t let it get too far away from us, and we were still able to finish 13th.”

– Ty Dillon

Brandon Jones and the No. 33 Texas Rangers Team Earn A Top-10 Finish Their First Time up to Bat at Texas Motor Speedway

“It’s been a fun week with the Texas Rangers baseball team on the hood of our No. 33 Chevy. We had speed during Thursday’s practice sessions. Mike Hillman Jr. and the No. 33 guys unloaded a fast car, so I felt confident heading into qualifying. We fought a tight-handling car during the race, but made some gains that helped control manageability. Saturday night was fun and I’m looking forward to the other night races on our schedule. I’ve also got to thank my guys for all their hard work.”

– Brandon Jones

Brendan Gaughan Navigates to 12th-Place Finish at Texas Motor Speedway

“Today was a tough day as a whole. We fought a tight-handling Chevrolet for most of the race and couldn’t free up the car. I am really happy with my WIX Filters crew. They did a great job on pit road. We made some big changes at the beginning of the race. The guys performed at a very high level on pit road. We had a shot at the top-10 near the end going three-wide, but we ended up too loose on that last run. It just wasn’t what we needed to be up front tonight.”

YOU ARE BRINGING BACK THE YELLOW NUMBERS ON YOUR CAR THIS WEEK AND YOU ALSO HAVE SOMETHING GOING ON WITH THE ROCKETS TO RACECARS. WHAT’S THAT ALL ABOUT?
“We’ve got a lot going on this weekend and I’m very excited to have the yellow back on the car. We ran it once last year in honor of Jeff Gordon’s final race, and the fans have been speaking loudly through the social media channels. And the message was heard, so this is just another example of how social media really drives things that exist in our world today. So, I’m excited to have the yellow #48 back on the car. Pro Stock champ Erica Enders returns to Sportsman roots this weekend

Pro Stock champ Erica Enders returns
to Sportsman roots this weekend
BELLE ROSE, La. (April 7) — Two-time Pro Stock world champion Erica Enders will return to her racing roots this weekend behind the wheel of the ORTEQ Energy Technologies Super Gas car at the NHRA Division 4 race at No Problem Raceway Park.

Before moving to the professional ranks, Enders raced Super Gas and won an NHRA national event in Houston in 2004. She’ll be driving for car owners Buddy Wood and Cody Ortowski this weekend in the first of several Sportsman races she’ll compete in this season.

“Fortunately, this race fell on an off weekend for us, so I’m able to drive,” Enders said. “Buddy Wood and Cody Ortowski have set me up with a great race car, and (crew chief) Cody Wampler will be setting it up for us this weekend, so we’ll definitely have a chance.

“I’m really excited. No Problem is one of the tracks I grew up at because it’s so close to Houston and we raced there a bunch. I can just drive up there from New Orleans, so it feels really comfortable.”

Enders is coming off a semifinal finish in Pro Stock at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, winning her second-round race on a holeshot. She had reaction times of .006, .009, and .021 in Las Vegas, and she’ll need similar lights in the cutthroat Sportsman class.

“I’m sure everyone will bring their A-game to the starting line,” Enders said. “I’ll try my best to hold them off and go some rounds. It’s been 12 years since I’ve raced Super Gas, and like anything else, to be good at something you need to do it a lot, but it’s not like I haven’t been drag racing.

“We’ll get some test runs in (Thursday) and then get after it Friday. Hopefully, it all comes back to me really fast. I’m pretty confident it will.”

Wood and Wampler will race alongside Enders as her teammates this weekend.

“Both Buddy and Cody (Wampler) are racing, so our pit will stay busy,” Enders said. “It’ll be fun. That’s really my biggest goal, to have some fun and get back to my roots. I’m also excited to spend the weekend with Stan and Sheila Mae Holt, my longtime friends from Houston who own Lupe Tortilla Mexican Restaurants. They’ve been with me since I started racing, and it’ll be fun to race with them.”

ON YOUR FINISH AT MARTINSVILLE LAST WEEKEND, CAN YOU PUT IT INTO PERSPECTIVE HOW MUCH IT HAS TAKEN TO GET TO THAT POINT? NOT RUNNING EVERY WEEK MAKES IT MORE DIFFICULT. BUT, CAN YOU TELL THE DIFFERENCE SINCE YOU’VE BEEN IN AND OUT OF THE CAR OVER THE PAST SEVERAL WEEKS?
“Last weekend we had a great run. You always want more. We wanted to win the race. We had a great car. We weren’t quite as happy with it in the race as we were in practice. We had a different tire batch code and it seemed to affect the handling a little bit. But we made a lot of progress through the race and had a good finish. It is a challenge, you know, not being in the car every week; although it is kind of nice, at the same time (laughs). It’s certainly an added challenge. But, as you guys know, everyone in this room pretty much is on the circuit and understands the grind of the length of our season. But the last three weeks I think, have been great, working with (crew chief) Mike (Bugarewicz) kind of continually, and the whole team, and really building momentum we need to put a car in Victory Lane. I feel like we’ve done it in the last few weeks. Martinsville showed that. I feel like we have a good car coming here to Texas and hopefully we can build on that and take a seventh and turn it into a win or a top 5.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Texas–Brian Vickers

LAS VEGAS (April 3) — That’s more like it.

After three untimely first-round exits in the first three races of the 2016 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season, two-time Pro Stock champion Erica Enders stormed to the semifinals of the Denso Spark Plugs NHRA Nationals on Sunday at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

“It was really nice to go rounds. It felt like it was back to normal. We’re used to going deep into the race on Sunday, and we’re going to get back there. We just need a little bit more time. We certainly made strides in the right direction with our engine-development program. We have work to do, but a semifinal appearance here in Las Vegas was definitely awesome.” Continue reading Erica Enders storms to Las Vegas semifinal with Elite Motorsports/Mopar Dodge
