QUESTION REGARDING CARL EDWARDS
“Yeah, I was taken back by that only because it happened so late in the winter. He has another year left on his contract. I didn’t watch the press conference, but it didn’t seem like there was a light bulb that went off like oh, that’s the reason why. I think when everyone left the press conference, or at least as I talked to people, people are still a little baffled by it. So, yeah, I think the timing of it and the reasoning behind it just was hard to believe.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Daytona Media Day–Jamie McMurray

ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO GETTING 2017 STARTED?
“Absolutely, looking forward to 2017 getting started tomorrow night. It should be a great season. We’ve done a lot of work during the off-season. I think our whole team side, myself and the team and just trying to be as prepared and ready to go as possible. We worked in a lot of areas that seemed to help us at the end of last year. So, we kept pushing in those spots and feel good about where we are at.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Daytona Media Day–Kasey Kahne

WHO DO YOU THINK WILL WIN IT ALL THIS SEASON IN XFINITY?
“I’ve got some good teammates at our RCR group. We have five Xfinity teams this season. Brandon Jones is back for his second year. Daniel Hemric is the rookie of the group. Brendan Gaughan is the veteran of the group. We have a strong line-up again this year. I’m really excited to go back to Xfinity racing. I’m doing 27 races myself. Looking forward to being a part of that, and I think we have a good team of drivers that have a chance at winning it.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Daytona Media Day–TY Dillon

DAYTONA, Fla. — Three-time Daytona 500 winner and four-time Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series champ Jeff Gordon will lead the field to the start of Sunday’s Daytona 500 behind the wheel of the new 2017 Camaro ZL1 pace car.

“Chevrolet and I have a great history at the Daytona 500 and it’s an honor to drive the 650-horsepower Camaro ZL1 pace car for the largest, most historic race of the season,” Gordon said. Continue reading Jeff Gordon Drives Camaro ZL1 Pace Car at Daytona 500

“I felt like I put myself in a good position to win. We were running second with one lap to go, but down the backstretch I didn’t move quick enough and it put us to fourth. It was a good race anyways. I just feel like I needed to move faster to the right. I know the momentum is in the top lane and I didn’t get there. It was a tough call to stay where I was on track. Overall, the Dow Chevrolet was really good and I feel like we have something we can work with for the Daytona 500 on Sunday.” Continue reading Austin Dillon and the Dow Chevrolet Team Rely on Momentum to Earn Fourth-Place Finish in Duel at Daytona

AJ ALLMENDINGER FINISHES FOURTH IN CAN-AM DUEL AT DAYTONA 2
Dale Earnhardt Jr. Leads 53 of 60 Laps

DAYTONA, Fla., Feb. 23, 2017 – AJ Allmendinger, driver of the No. 47 Kroger Click List Chevrolet SS, finished in fourth place to lead six Team Chevy drivers in the top 10 in the Can-Am Duel at Daytona 2 at Daytona International Speedway Thursday night.

““Interesting,” said Allmendinger after climbing out of the No. 47 Chevrolet. “I lost the draft early on. When we go to the bottom we kind of struggle on the bottom there and need a little bit of help. We keep it wound up on the top. The car is pretty good. The last 10 laps I just hung to the top and kept hoping the line was going to move. The seas parted going into (Turn) 3. I thought ‘heck maybe I can get to the top two here’. And then about off of Turn 4 I thought ‘oh crap we are crashing this race car now.’ Overall I think it was the first time in a while that we get to take the Kroger Click List Chevy primary car to the Daytona 500. We have had to take the back-up the last couple of years, so good night. The Duels score some points, so I think we scored seven points there, which by the end of the year might be a big deal. More than anything it is in one piece. We’ve got some stuff to work on for sure. The car was stable. All the body work the guys did back at the shop, everything, the car is awesome. We just got to get a little more speed out of it.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Can Am Duel 2

CHASE ELLIOTT, NO. 24 NAPA CHEVROLET SS – Race Winner
LAST YEAR, YOU ALMOST BEAT YOURSELF UP TOO MUCH OVER WHAT HAPPENED ON THE RACE TRACK DURING YOUR ROOKIE SEASON. WHERE DID YOU IMPROVE THE MOST THAT IT SHOWED TONIGHT?
“Oh, man we had such a fast NAPA Chevy tonight. I didn’t think anybody was going to help us there at the first part of the race and I had a couple good pushes to get us out front and our spotter did a great job on the roof making sure he was calling the lanes correctly and we were able to get back in front. Just want to thank our partners and the Hendrick engine shop. They had some steam tonight at it was apparent.”

ALAN GUSTAFSON (CREW CHIEF) NEVER MENTIONED POINTS. IT WAS ALWAYS SAVE THE CAR. THERE’S A LOT OF RISK VERSUS REWARD, BUT YOU EARNED SOME GOOD POINTS LOOKING AT THE BIGGER PICTURE.
“Yeah, to be honest with you, we weren’t even thinking about that. So, that’s great. I’m excited about that. But really, I’m just more excited about how this thing ran tonight and keeping it in one piece. It’s a great way to start the season for us. I know it’s just a Duel win and it doesn’t count towards a win in the playoffs, but it still means a lot to me and it means a lot to our team. And like I said, this is a great way to start the season.”

JAMIE MCMURRAY, NO. 1 CESSNA MCDONALD’S CHEVROLET SS – Finished 2nd
YOU FINISHED 2ND AND YOU TOLD THE GUYS THIS CAR IS A LOT BETTER THAN THE CLASH CAR. WHAT, TO YOU, MAKES A GOOD DAYTONA 500 CAR?
“Well, our Cessna/McDonald’s Chevy sucked-up really well. I went home (after the Clash race) and watched a lot of video on Monday, of some of the cars I thought were really good, to see how they were getting runs and how they were doing restarts. And, this car just had a little more speed in it and was able to suck-up a lot better than our other car. The balance was a little bit better. Obviously running at night helps some of that. But, I don’t know. When you have a bad car, when you get hung out, you go to the back or you go to the mid-pack. And I got hung out a couple of times and I was able to maintain and come back in at around fifth. So, it’s a really good car. I’m proud of our guys and glad that it’s still in one piece and we can go back and watch now.”

IS THE SEGMENT FORMAT THE GREAT EQUALIZER FOR YOU BEING A SMALLER TEAM? “Yes, I definitely think so. For whatever reason for the last three or four years, we have put together a string of good finishes. That obviously builds confidence. Just really putting yourself in position to be there at the end. There has been a lot of crazy circumstances – you know –rainouts; shortened races – but the biggest thing I have learned over the years for me with our program, if I can wedge myself in that top-15 early on, and just stay there and fight hard all day long, at the end, it usually shakes out where we are sitting in the top-10. That’s going to eventually put us in a position to be in the top-five and put us in the position to win the race. We don’t always have that outright speed like you see in No. 2 (Brad Keselowski) and the No. 22 (Joey Logano) pull the lines and do all of those things. But we are close enough to see it going on, and eventually you do that often enough, and you are going to be in a good spot. I think that is what our goal is – to race well. To be up in that top-10 and put ourselves in position to seek a win.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Daytona Media Day–Michael McDowell

YOU’VE HAD TOP 10’S AT RESTRICTOR PLATE TRACKS. WHAT IS THE NEXT STEP YOU HAVE TO DO TO GET FROM REALLY GOOD, TO WINNING?
“To take it to the next level, I think I’ve watched a lot of tape seeing what it’s going to take and sat down with our engineers and crew chiefs. I think the biggest thing is just getting a little bit more aggressive in the side-drafting department. If you watched the Clash, I think I did a pretty good job. It’s probably one of the best drafting races I’ve ever had, I think, looking back at it. We put ourselves in a position against two different sets of teammates to have a shot to win. I’m looking forward to the opportunity in the 500. I don’t know what was wrong with our car. We didn’t have the qualifying run that we wanted. We will tune on it all we can for the Duels. And I think if I draft like I did in the Clash, we’ll be just fine.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Daytona Media Day–Austin Dillon

ON THE UPCOMING SEASON: “I look forward to the opportunity. It is another chance to win a championship, obviously win some races and get back into the victory column. I think there is a lot of exciting changes that promote a lot of positive things within our sport with respect to Monster coming in; the new points system; the chance for the accumulative effort toward the championship versus a playoff-type round system that creates everybody back to equal after you have earned something. It is nice to see that part of it. I think that is the biggest, most important change that applies to our season and how the point structure works and the opportunities we have to become a champion.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Daytona–Media Day–Ryan Newman

DO YOU THINK THE SEGMENTS ARE GOOD FOR SPONSORS WHO MIGHT NOT GET A VICTORY THROUGHOUT THE YEAR?
“Yeah I mean anytime you win something it’s a good thing. It opens up a few more opportunities per race to win something, even though the segments are just minutiae compared to the actual race win, but it still pays points and carries over throughout the year. That is all good, just like you said, just opportunities to get more points. I don’t know what happens if you win the first segment. Somebody is going to win the first segment next Sunday and we are going to see what happens, but I’m going to say that it’s pretty anticlimactic if you do win it, but it’s going to go down in the history books as the first segment winner.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Daytona Media Day–Paul Menard
