Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Junior Engine Challenge is a huge hit!

Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Junior Engine Challenge is a huge hit!

The love of racing and performance is something that for many is developed at an early age. In order to help fuel this passion, we want to expose kids to a unique opportunity to showcase workmanship and the awareness of complex mechanisms. This contest will be featured and hosted as a part of the HROT JR Dragster Series & the Midwest Junior Super Series, to be hosted at 9 events all across the central US in 2017.

Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Junior Engine Challenge presented by Racequip was kicked off February 25th-26th at the Race and Performance Expo in Schaumburg, IL and let’s just say it was a huge hit! The contest is very simple, a team is comprised of 2 individuals, one team member must be 5-18 years of age, and he or she must completely disassemble/reassemble a complete single cylinder OHV engine utilizing only basic hand tools. Some of the goals of the premise behind this contest is to help individuals develop communication skills and increase self-esteem. The contest will help youngster’s develop great problem solving skills and an understanding of an internal combustion engine.
image005.jpgOver the course of the 2 day RP Expo, we proceeded to have the engines ran through over 40 times, with kids waiting for over an hour to have a chance to develop and showcase their skills at perfecting the teams rebuilding skills on the small engine. Event organizer Ryan Gortney mentioned, “One 5th grade student who participated in the contest on Saturday persuaded his parents to travel the two hours back to the show the next day to have the opportunity to go through the engine a second time. I was overwhelmed by the response to our first event, and excited for the future events in 2017.”

Blaney, Motorcraft/Quick Lane Team Finish 18th At Atlanta Despite Early Setback

March 5, 2017

For the Motorcraft/Quick Lane team, a somewhat disappointing day at Atlanta Motor Speedway was much easier to take because their No. 21 Ford Fusion had the speed to finish much higher than the 18th place it wound up.

On Sunday, in the Folds of Honor Quik Trip 500, Ryan Blaney was on the march from the drop of the green flag, moving from his 14th starting position to seventh in the first 30 laps.

But just a few laps after his first pit stop he returned to pit road under the green flag due to a vibration. The Motorcraft/Quick Lane crew changed tires and returned him to the track one lap behind the leader, which ordinarily wouldn’t be cause for great concern. Late-Race Mechanical Issue Foils Top-Five Finish for Austin Dillon and the Dow QUIKRETE Chevrolet Team at Atlanta Motor Speedway

“We had a really strong car today and were poised to finish in the top-five but everything just shut off. We lost all power with less than 25 laps remaining in the race when I was running in the top-five. The same thing happened to my teammate Ryan Newman earlier in the day, so I assume it’s the same issue. We’re working on it and we will make sure it doesn’t happen again. I’m proud of my guys for the speed they put in this race car. We worked hard, really hard. This one just hurts. There is nothing better to say about it. It just hurts.” Continue reading Richard Childress Racing–Atlanta Wrapup

KYLE LARSON, NO. 42 TARGET CHEVROLET SS – FINISHED 2ND
YOU LED THE RACE IN THE LATE STAGES. YOU CHOSE TO GO HIGH IN TURNS 1 AND 2 AND IT SEEMED LIKE YOU MADE UP A LITTLE GROUND. WHAT WAS BEHIND THE DECISION THERE?
“I raced around Brad (Keselowski, race winner) a lot throughout the day. Any time I was in front of him on short runs, he’s drive around me up top. And so, I knew I was going to have to take his line away on that start there for a couple of laps and try it. I just didn’t have enough grip or not as much as I’d hoped. He did a good job being a lane lower than me and getting to my inside. So, it was disappointing not to get the win, but I’m happy about our second place run at a 1.5-mile where I struggle at. I can’t thank everybody at the shop enough for building great race cars, and Hendrick engines for supplying us with some great engines, I had a blast today. The Target Chevy was good. I ran the bottom a lot, which is not typically something I do. So, it was a lot of fun to learn how to kind of use both feet to get around the bottom and to do a good job with that.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Atlanta Post Race

Austin Dillon and the Rheem Team Finish Eighth at Atlanta Motor Speedway to Earn Second Consecutive NASCAR XFINITY Series Top-10 Finish

“I really wanted to put the Rheem Chevrolet into Victory Lane but today was just not our day. We were tight and loose depending on how I tackled the corners but Justin Alexander and the team did a great job with adjustments during each of the segment breaks. We did have a issue with fuel pickup or something on initial green flag runs but I know we will work on that in the shop this week and have it sorted out before we head to the next race. Overall, we are making strides as a team and I’m excited for the rest of the season.” Continue reading Richard Childress Racing–Atlanta Post Race
