JIMMIE JOHNSON, NO. 48 LOWE’S CHEVROLET SS – POLE WINNER
THAT WAS AM IMPRESSIVE LAP DID YOU THINK YOUR CAR HAD THAT IN IT?
“I knew the car was good. We had something really weird go on in our mock run in practice for qualifying. It had us kind of confused. We went back to kind of square one and where we unloaded. The car was fast in all the sessions, a little tight, but we kept progressing, we kept our lap count down which was really important and was able to advance to the next round on the first lap, so just really happy. It was a trying day for sure, but just so proud of this whole race team. Huge thanks to all the support from Lowe’s and all the employees at Lowe’s. They are behind us each and every weekend and we are very appreciative of that. Great support at Hendrick Motorsports and also Chevrolet. Just a great day.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–New Hampshire–Qualifying

Hinchcliffe Heads Honda field Friday in Toronto

Hinchcliffe Heads Honda field Friday in Toronto
• Hometown favorite Hinchcliffe runs fifth-fastest in practice
• Rahal, Munoz, Hawksworth also post top-10 times

Toronto native James Hinchcliffe thrilled a large Friday crowd at Exhibition Place, running fifth in the opening Verizon IndyCar Series practice sessions in preparation for Sunday’s Honda Indy Toronto.
Hinchcliffe rebounded from a difficult morning practice, when handling issues kept him well down in the order, 19th, to improve by nearly two full seconds in the afternoon session.

Hinchcliffe was one of four Honda drivers in the top 10 Friday at the narrow, demanding 1.786-mile temporary street circuit. Graham Rahal, in the top 10 in both practice sessions, finished the day eighth overall, with Carlos Munoz and Jack Hawksworth rounding out the top 10.

Activities at the Honda Indy Toronto continue tomorrow, with final practice and qualifying. Sunday’s 85-lap race starts at 3 p.m. EDT, with live network television coverage on CNBC.

James Hinchcliffe (#5 Schmidt Peterson Motorsports Honda): “We had some issues with the car this morning, but we were able to sort it out. It’s tough, because the conditions out there are bumpy and there are so many surface changes. I bet even the fastest guy out there is saying how bad his car feels. It’s all relative. The guys did a great job [preparing the car for the second practice], and even during the session, to make the Arrow Electronics car better and better. We don’t know exactly what we need out of the car here just yet. We’re still learning. But so far, so good. It’s good to end the first day with a reasonable time and position, and hopefully we can just build on that for tomorrow.”

JULY 15, 2016

KYLE LARSON, NO. 42 TARGET CHEVROLET SS met with media and discussed his progress and challenges this year, racing at New Hampshire, his view on safety and concussions, other races he enjoys during the year, his wish to some day race in the Indy 500, and more. Full Transcript:

“I’m excited about next week; but first off we’ve got to have a good weekend here. We struggled here last year. I was really good my first season in Cup; but this is probably our worst race track. We’re not off to a good start here in practice. We were off a little bit, but you know me, as well. This track is just tough for me. We’re looking at some notes and stuff. Jamie (McMurray) is pretty quick so I’ve been talking to him a little bit after practice and trying to learn as much as I can. We’re just hoping for a good weekend. We’ve been getting closer and closer in the points and getting in position to make the Chase, so we’ve just got to keep working hard and be consistent and not have any bad races and hopefully can get there.” Continue reading Chevy Racing-NASCAR–New Hampshire–Kyle Larson

DALE EARNHARDT JR. WILL NOT COMPETE IN THE JULY 17 NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES EVENT AT NEW HAMPSHIRE MOTOR SPEEDWAY AFTER EXPERIENCING CONCUSSION-LIKE SYMPTOMS.

HENDRICK MOTORSPORTS GENERAL MANAGER DOUG DUCHARDT, CREW CHIEF GREG IVES, AND SUBSTITUTE DRIVER ALEX BOWMAN, NO. 88 NATIONWIDE CHEVROLET SS met with media and discussed the situation.

The session was moderated by DAVID HIGDON, V.P., NASCAR INTEGRATED MARKETING COMMUNICATIONS

DAVID HIGDON:
“I wanted to start off providing a little bit of background on NASCAR’s concussion protocol. As you know, NASCAR requires drivers to submit a baseline neurocognitive assessment such as an impact test. And again those are only one tool as a prerequisite for being licensed to compete. This mandate filed a comprehensive industry-wide education process launched by NASCAR in 2013. Additionally, NASCAR’s medical advisory group, a team of consulting physicians who work directly with the league on policy development while regularly meeting with drivers to continue the education process includes many leaders in the neurological field such as Dr. Vinay Deshmukh of the Carolina Neurosurgery & Spine Associates.

Motorcraft/Quick Lane Team Looking For Speed, Strategy And Luck At New Hampshire

July 13, 2016

To be successful at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, a race team needs a fast car, a good pit strategy and at times some good luck.

The Wood Brothers and their Motorcraft/Quick Lane team have enjoyed all three at times over the years.

With the long straightaways and tight turns of New Hampshire, passing can be difficult, thus the need for a good pit strategy and the luck. The Woods have used a combination of both to score two runner-up finishes at New Hampshire – in 1995 with Morgan Shepherd driving and in 2003 with Ricky Rudd at the wheel.
