WHAT IS IT LIKE REPRESENTING THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN THIS WEEKEND?
“It’s been really cool. Obviously, it’s not under the circumstances that I would like to be here, but just really thankful for the opportunity and really cool to have Axalta and the University of Michigan on board. I’m going to go to dinner with some of the student’s tomorrow night. It’s cool to have Axalta partner with the business and engineering program over there and get to meet a bunch of really smart kids.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Michigan–Alex Bowman

• Hunter-Reay charges through field twice to finish third
• Munoz, Hinchcliffe, Rossi all contend

Mikhail Aleshin and Ryan Hunter-Reay were among five Honda drivers to contend for victory in Monday’s rain-delayed Verizon IndyCar Series at Pocono Raceway. WILL POWER, NO. 12 VERIZON TEAM PENSKE CHEVROLET, RACE WINNER: EARLY IN THE RACE YOU COULD NOT WORK THE CAR IN TRAFFIC AND THE CAR JUST WAS NOT DOING IT FOR YOU. BUT YOU GUYS STUCK WITH IT. AT THAT POINT, DID YOU THINK YOU WOULD BE HERE (VICTORY LANE) TODAY? “Yeah, it was so hard to follow in traffic because we started very light on downforce. But you know, we just kept adding and adding and adding. Then the team adjusted on the car a bit until it was awesome at the end and I was very good in traffic. I just have to thank Verizon and for all the access they give the fans. I also want to thank Chevrolet. The Chevy engine was awesome today and the body kit was obviously also awesome. So you know it was a very good comeback and I am very happy to win here. I love winning 500-mile races and this is one of the toughest ovals that we race on. I am just really happy for Verizon and the whole team.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–INDYCAR–Pocono

Giovanni Scelzi Almost Earns 20th Top 10 Before Mechanical Woes Strike

Giovanni Scelzi Almost Earns 20th Top 10 Before Mechanical Woes Strike

Inside Line Promotions – VISALIA, Calif. (Aug. 22, 2016) – Giovanni Scelzi nearly registered his 20th top-10 finish of the season last Friday at Plaza Park Raceway.

Unfortunately, a mechanical problem derailed the team throughout the micro sprint event at the fast bullring.

“The track was really hooked up and rough throughout the night,” he said. “Our motor gradually got worse as the night went on.”

Scelzi kicked off the action by qualifying third quickest overall. However, the engine woes slowed him in a heat race as he placed fifth to miss the feature inversion by only one spot.

“On Lap 3 or 4 of the heat race I got passed and I just couldn’t catch the guy in front of me,” he said. “We rode around in eighth for most of the main event. With about five laps to go there was a red flag and the motor was really hot so I just pulled off.”

Scelzi elected to exit the race early to avoid damaging his engine and he was credited with a 12th-place result.

His next scheduled race is set for Sept. 17 at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, Calif., where he will pilot a winged sprint car for Roth Motorsports.

Austin Dillon Caps Off Winning Bristol Weekend with
Top-Five Finish in Dow Chevrolet

“It was challenging day for our Dow Chevrolet. We didn’t really have a car capable of winning the race, but we definitely tried. We struggled finding grip in the beginning of the race. My arms are wore out, I know that. I’m proud of the adjustments that Slugger (Labbe, crew chief) and the guys made. They had a good pit stop there at the end and really helped us out and gained us spots to have the outside on the restart, and it was fun. You could tell I was a little tighter than Kevin Harvick on the bottom and he jumped the top and pulled away from me. I’m glad Bristol tried to get the bottom working because that top is going to be dominant the longer we run. We had to adjust the car to get it free for the top, and then back to tight on the bottom. A lot of chasing grip, it makes it fun racing and reminds me of the dirt days when we’re trying to chase the grip. It was a solid day, especially in our drive to make the Chase, I’m really happy.”

Paul Menard Shows Speed at Bristol Motor Speedway before Late-Race Incident

“Danny (Stockman, crew chief) and the Knauf/Menards team brought a fast Chevrolet to Bristol this weekend. We didn’t qualify where we wanted to, but we made up a lot of ground when the race finally went green. We were able to put ourselves in the top five after a two-tire stop and were running solid lap times when a few cars in front of us got together. We caught a piece of debris in the radiator and had to come to the garage. The 27 guys worked hard to replace the radiator and get us back out on track. It’s unfortunate. We had a really good Knauf/Menards Chevrolet and definitely deserved a top- 10. We are leaving here with our heads high and are looking forward to a good run in Michigan next weekend.”

– Paul Menard

Cut Tire Halts Ryan Newman’s Strong Run at
Bristol Motor Speedway

“It was a tough day for this Caterpillar team at Bristol (Motor Speedway). We cut a tire early in the race and had to make multiple stops to fix the damage. This was definitely not the result we expected coming in, but I’m proud of Luke (Lambert, crew chief) and this entire race team who kept digging throughout the day. We’ll aim for a much better result at Michigan next weekend.”
