Award-winning actress enters F4 U.S. as first female driver

ALTON, VA (April 27, 2018)- The Formula 4 United States Championship Powered by Honda entry list for the Andy Scriven Memorial Race weekend at Virginia International Raceway is the most diverse since its inauguration in 2016, representing several states, multiple countries and for the first time ever, different genders.

Thursday marked another historical moment for F4 U.S., as its first female competitor Angela Durazo of Los Angeles rolled out onto the 17-turn, 3.27-mile track for the first promoter test day of the season. Durazo, who works as an actress when she’s not behind the wheel of her striking, bright orange SetPoint Medical F4 U.S. machine, was not intimidated by the large 36-car male-dominated field. Follow A Dream/Permatex TA/FC team reaches Semifinals of Lucas Oil Regional Race in Virginia Follow A Dream – Virginia Lucas Oil race wrap up –Thursday, April 26, 2018 MARSTONS MILLS, Massachusetts (April 26, 2018) – Follow A Dream/Permatex Chevrolet Camaro Top Alcohol Funny Car team owner Jay Blake promised things would get better after the team’s slow start in the first two races of 2018. And indeed that’s what happened this past weekend in the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series regional race at Virginia Motorsports Park in Dinwiddie, Va. Blake, driver Phil Burkart and tuner Anthony Terenzio and the rest of the team helped get the car to a semi-final finish. Burkart lost in the next-to-last round to Mathew Gill, but there was no embarrassment, as Gill went on to win the overall race in the AA/Funny Car class. “We tested on Thursday, qualified third on Friday and eliminations were Saturday and we lost in the semifinals,” Blake said. “The results really sound better than we did.” “We struggled with (tire and body) shake all weekend. We’re pretty confident we’ve got it figured out and we’re looking forward to this weekend.” “It’s a common thing with Alcohol Funny Cars. We’re trying to find the right clutch setup.” Now the team prepares for this weekend’s NHRA NGK Spark Plug Four-Wide Nationals at zMAX Dragway in Concord, North Carolina. “I’m hoping for a good weekend,” Blake said. “It’s been a tough beginning of the year but the team’s been working hard, Anthony (Terenzio) has been working hard to fine-tune the car, Phil’s been doing a great job driving the car and the crew has been doing a great job.” “We’re just trying to fine-tune it and hopefully this weekend we’ll be able to round the corner and be able to make some real good runs that we’re happy with.” This weekend’s race will be the second of three events in a row for the Follow A Dream squad. After Concord, the team will move on to another NHRA national event next weekend: the NHRA Southern Nationals Powered by Mello Yello at Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Georgia. “We’re 10th in regional points and we’re No. 1 in the All-Star points for the All-Star race in Chicago in June (May 31-June 3),” Blake said. “We’re in the All-Star race, which is great, and we’re proud of that. “As for this weekend and next weekend, we’re hoping to win one of them, if not both of them.” Blake has been his typical busy self off-track as well, having speaking engagements this week in front of more than 800 attendees at the NASCAR Technical Institute in Mooresville, N.C., as well as the Davidson County Community College in Lexington, N.C. He expects to do more speaking engagements in the coming weeks as he further spreads his “Five Tools For Your Life’s Tool Box” motivational message to young and old.

JOHN FORCE CONTINUES TO BATTLE FOR CONSISTENCY

JOHN FORCE CONTINUES TO BATTLE FOR CONSISTENCY
CHARLOTTE (April 25, 2018) — Last week in Houston at the 31st annual SpringNationals, 16-time Funny Car world champion John Force experienced the lowest of lows and highest of highs. The seven-time winner in Houston did not make the show for the first time at the historically quick race track in south Texas. The stumble snapped Force’s 221 race qualifying streak, the longest active Funny Car qualifying streak, which began in 2008. Force also holds the longest qualifying streak in NHRA history at 395 consecutive races.

While Force was relegated to team motivator on Sunday he succeeded with flying colors as two of his teammates advanced to the final round. Daughter Brittany Force secured her eighth career Top Fuel win and team president Robert Hight finished a close second in Funny Car. Hight and Courtney Force qualified No.1 and No. 2 in Houston to establish the overall Force team as one of the most dominant of the weekend. ALEX BOWMAN, NO. 88 NATIONWIDE CAMARO ZL1 participated in the two-day Goodyear tire test at Michigan International Speedway.

TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR SEASON AND WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO COMING BACK TO MICHIGAN:
“Yeah, our season has been a little bit of a roller coaster so far. We didn’t really start the year how we needed to with our new Camaro ZL1. We have definitely made a lot of progress with that. That has been a big positive for us. I feel like all four Hendrick Motorsports cars have gotten better each and every week. We have had some really good runs and we have had some really bad runs like last week (at Richmond). We’ve just got to get a little more consistent but hasn’t been bad by any means. Really looking forward to getting back to Michigan. We have been pretty decent so far here testing. I think it will be a good one for us.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Michigan–Alex Bowman

Alabama Gang And The Wood Brothers Were A Tough Tandem Back In The Day At Talladega

April 25, 2018

It wasn’t like tandem drafting, but the one-two combination of the Alabama Gang and the Wood Brothers was a powerful pairing back in the day at Talladega Superspeedway.

The Wood Brothers, who now campaign the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Fusion driven by Paul Menard, got the first of their five Talladega wins in 1971 with Donnie Allison of Hueytown aboard their 1969 Mercury. ROBERT HIGHT STRIVING FOR THIRD WIN AT CHARLOTTE FOUR-WIDE

ROBERT HIGHT STRIVING FOR THIRD WIN AT CHARLOTTE FOUR-WIDE
CHARLOTTE (April 25, 2018) — There are a handful of drivers who shake their heads when they see the four-wide format nearing on the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series schedule. The unique format of four, 10,000 horsepower Funny Cars getting staged and launching in concert can be a lot to take in but, for reigning Mello Yello Funny Car world champion Robert Hight the original modern-day NGK NHRA Four-Wide Nationals is a race he looks forward to every season.

Hight has two wins at four-wide races at zMax Dragway grabbing the trophy in 2012 and 2014. He has only missed advancing to the second quad once (2016) and he holds the zMax Dragway track speed record at 333.91 mph. Continue reading ROBERT HIGHT STRIVING FOR THIRD WIN AT CHARLOTTE FOUR-WIDE

RECENT WIN HAS WORLD CHAMPION BRITTANY FORCE FIRED UP

RECENT WIN HAS WORLD CHAMPION BRITTANY FORCE FIRED UP
CHARLOTTE (April 25, 2018) — It is amazing what one win can do for a reigning world champion. Emotions poured out of 2017 NHRA Mello Yello Top Fuel champion Brittany Force last weekend when her Monster Energy Top Fuel dragster got to the finish line first in the finals of the NHRA SpringNationals in Houston. It was Force’s eighth career Top Fuel win but, even more than the championship, that win was significant coming on the heels of a devastating crash to start the season.

“That emotion was built off of the championship. It was built off of Pomona this season. Leaving Pomona last season we were on a huge high. We won the championship and that is something every driver dreams about,” explained Force. “We were able to do that and then, coming out to the opening race of the season, at the same track in Pomona, it was the ultimate low.” Continue reading RECENT WIN HAS WORLD CHAMPION BRITTANY FORCE FIRED UP

TOP QUALIFIER COURTNEY FORCE LOOKING FOR MORE WINS IN CHARLOTTE
CHARLOTTE (April 25, 2018) – This season on Friday and Saturday Courtney Force has been almost untouchable, qualifying in the top four every race. She has two No. 1 qualifiers including a top spot at the inaugural Las Vegas four-wide national event. Force has captured one win this season, getting the trophy at the NHRA Arizona Nationals after qualifying No. 1 where she also recorded low ET and top speed of the race. It was a commanding performance and one that the nine-time Funny Car winner would like to repeat this weekend in Charlotte.

“We did it all in Phoenix. We were the No. 1 qualifier, top speed, low ET and won the race. It was a great weekend for this Advance Auto Parts Camaro team. I feel like I have the confidence in this team that we can do that every weekend. (Crew chiefs) Danny Hood and Brian Corradi have been doing a great job giving me a fast race car and we just need to get more round wins on Sunday. That is what makes this sport so exciting. You have to bring your best to the starting line every run.”

FIRST S.T.E.M. DAY OPENS EYES FOR 94 FIFTH GRADERS

Joliet, IL. – Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Junior Engine Challenge completed their first ever STEM Day Friday April 20th at the Universal Technical Institute in Lisle, IL.
Ninety-Four 5th Graders from Ranch View Elementary School in Naperville, IL came on a field trip to the UTI location to learn about how STEM relates to the automotive field.
It started the day off with a visit from Congressman Peter Roskam (IL) who stopped by to support our STEM Event.

image005.jpg

Students arrived shortly after 9AM and found their color-coded tables with a Hot Rodder JR Shirt with their name label on their chair.

Congressman Roskam spoke to Students about the importance of working with your hands and STEM activities.
UTI Campus President Julie Muller thanked the students and teachers for coming to their campus and gave them a guideline for the day’s activities.
Hot Rodders Ryan Gortney followed up with talking about exciting careers and the fun one can have in the automotive industry. Gortney also went over what they will be doing with the engine and got them fired up for the day!

After the introductions were completed, the students were split and placed in Red, White or Blue Teams.
One Team reported to the Ford Lab. There they were split into teams of 2 or 3 Students and reported to one of the 10 JR. HROT Engine Stations.
There, with their HROT Mentor they completely disassembled and reassembled a Briggs and Stratton overhead cam engine.

Once completed they took a Team Photo with their Mentor.

After the Photo they were able to look at 2 Junior Dragsters on display and participate in a reaction timing light in a half car Junior Dragster.

Besides the activities the students participated in with Hot Rodders, they were able to take a Tour of the UTI campus, participate in a UTI STEM activity, and Color in Edelbrock Coloring book challenge.
Numerous students said “this was the BEST and MOST FUN field trip they have ever been on”. This was just a start as how the Hot Rodders are reaching students at a younger age and letting them begin to experience the automotive aftermarket industry!
We would like to Thank UTI, Briggs and Stratton, SEMA, our sponsors, and the World’s BEST Volunteers for making this possible
