An interview with Funny Car winner ROBERT HIGHT, JOHN FORCE RACING, AUTO CLUB OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA CHEVROLET CAMARO SS (No. 11 qualifier; second victory of season and second at Sonoma Raceway; reigning Funny Car champion):

THIS IS PROBABLY A SPECIAL WIN FOR YOU – SECOND AT SONOMA AND FIRST IN 10 YEARS?
“It is. I grew up north of here and I’ve been to every single one of the national events at Sonoma Raceway either as a fan, a crew member and now as a driver. It’s hard to believe that a guy from a small town in Northern California can win here.” Continue reading CHEVY RACING NHRA AT SONOMA: Post-race Driver Quotes

Austin Dillon and Richard Childress Racing’s No. 3 American Ethanol Team Earn 13th-Place Finish at Pocono Raceway

“The American Ethanol Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 was extremely tight through Stage 1. We made chassis adjustments that we were confident would help with handling, but when Stage 2 started it felt like I was driving a pogo stick, and by the end of Stage 2, the car was just way too loose. I have to give it to the entire No. 3 American Ethanol team for working hard and never giving up. I feel like we were actually pretty good on takeoff, so we pitted during a late-race caution for 4 scuff tires, which is all we had left. On the restart, I ended up scraping the Turn 3 Wall with the right side of my car. Luckily, I was able to continue but it killed my momentum and made the car really tight. In the end, it was a hard-earned 13th-place finish.”

-Austin Dillon

Ryan Newman Takes Advantage of Late-Race Restarts To Earn Second-Straight Top-10 Finish in Bass Pro Shops / Cabela’s Camaro ZL1 at Pocono Raceway

“I don’t ever give up and this No. 31 Bass Pro Shops / Cabela’s Camaro ZL1 team doesn’t either. Our race was pretty frustrating to me. I knew we had a top-10 car, but we got blocked quite a bit which caused us to lose momentum and track position, especially during the middle portions of the race. All and all another solid job in the pits for the pit crew. For a while there, our track position didn’t reflect the kind of Chevy Luke Lambert and the team prepared for me, but it doesn’t matter now. We finished eighth and we’ll certainly take that result.”

(7/28/18 Placerville, CA – Jim Allen) … Justin Sanders jumped into a new ride and turned in a dominating sprint car performance to capture Saturday’s fast paced 30-lap King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Summer Nationals main event at Placerville Speedway.

It was a sweet victory for Sanders, who was subbing for regular driver Tanner Thorson who was competing at a NASCAR truck race at Pocono. Sanders made the most of his opportunity, bolting his seat in the Clyde Lamar-owned, Lee Lindgren-wrenched, Tri-C/Amsoil-sponsored Spike sprint car. He set quick time and led the entire distance in the feature to score his second KWS-NARC victory of the season. It was the first for Lamar. Late-Race Incident Ends Matt Tifft’s Day at Iowa Speedway

“We were still missing the take-off speed we really needed at Iowa Speedway with our No. 2 American Ethanol e15 Chevrolet Camaro. Our long run speed was decent, which helped with the longer green flag runs we had during the race today. After losing a lap towards the end of the final stage, we fought hard to be in the lucky dog position in case a caution came out, which it did. We got our lap back and were sitting in the 11th spot, so even though we had to restart toward the back of the field I thought we may have a shot to get a top 10 out of the day in the closing laps of the race. Unfortunately, the 52 (David Starr) turned the 26 (Max Tullman) heading into Turn 1 on the restart, and I just had nowhere to go. I hate it for my team. We were better than the results show today.”

Rossi, Honda Claim Pole in Mid-Ohio Qualifying
• Alexander Rossi will lead the field to the green flag in Sunday’s Honda Indy 200
• Third pole of 2018 for Rossi
• Ryan Hunter-Reay to start third, Robert Wickens fifith for Honda

LEXINGTON, Ohio (July 28, 2018) – Alexander Rossi took his Andretti Autosport Honda to the pole today in qualifying for Sunday’s Honda Indy 200 at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, leading both the opening and final rounds of “knockout” IndyCar Series qualifying to take his third pole of 2018, and fourth career IndyCar Series pole.

In the third and last qualifying round, Rossi completed just a single flying lap on the quicker, softer-compound “Red” [sidewall] tires. But his time of 1:04.6802 (125.677 mph) was more than two-tenths of a second quicker than Will Power’s best lap, a significant margin in a day otherwise notable for very close qualifying times. WILL POWER, NO. 12 VERIZON TEAM PENSKE CHEVROLET, QUALIFIED 2ND: SECOND PLACE NOT TOO BAD:
“Yeah, pretty good, yeah happy with front row. Obviously, it’s a real track position track, it’s difficult to pass and everyone is fast these days, so qualifying means a lot. Yeah, Alex (Rossi) just pumped out one really good lap there. I thought my lap was really good and then I came in and saw what he did and that was a solid lap.”

YOU HAVE QUALIFIED IN THE TOP SIX EVERY RACE THIS SEASON. WHEN YOU FINISH, YOU FINISH UP FRONT. HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH THAT KNOWING THAT YOU COULD REALLY BE LEADING THE CHAMPIONSHIP WITH SOME LUCK?
“Oh yeah, we are very aware of that. Every time we finish it’s a great finish. We always qualify at the front, we are always quick, just got to minimize the DNF’s. I mean that has just killed us this year. We should be way up there in the championship, not 90 points behind. But, going to be real aggressive. I want to get back in the fight. Nothing worse than turning up to the last race without being in contention. So, I’m going to go for it.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–INDYCAR–Mid-Ohio–Qualifying

DARRELL ‘BUBBA’ WALLACE, JR. NO. 43 MILE 22 CAMARO ZL1, AND RICHARD PETTY MOTORSPORTS (RPM) TEAM OWNER, RICHARD PETTY met with media and discussed their contract extension beyond the 2018 season.

IS THIS GOING TO HELP YOU DRIVE WITHOUT UNCERTAINTY FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR SO THAT YOU DON’T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THE END OF THE YEAR AND LAST-MINUTE THINGS?
BUBBA WALLACE: “I didn’t drive with uncertainty. We’ve got to get some turn in the front of our race cars, so that’s what I’ve been worried sick about driving. But this definitely helps. If you take a step back and help sponsorship efforts, knowing that we have a set future ahead, we can sell that. That’s the biggest thing as a whole, how we want to make our program better from the outside looking in. That goes a long way. So, for us, we’re still in here turning wrenches and trying everything we can to get out race cars better.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Pocono–Bubba Wallace

I SPOKE TO CHAD KNAUS (CREW CHIEF) AT KENTUCKY AND HE SAID HE SAW THE LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL. IS THAT TRUE OR IS IT THE TRAIN? WHAT IS THE MOMENTUM HERE FOR YOU GUYS?
“Well, we feel there is a lot of truth within it. Maybe we see things before they have a chance to be fully vetted and show up on the track with the results, but I think last weekend was a strong indicator we are going in the right direction. We have had various high spots along the way, but this has been way more challenging to… I would say through the middle part of last year and then in through this year for myself, for the No. 48 team, I think for our company, it’s been way more challenging than we anticipated. It took us awhile to get into this position, it’s going to take us awhile to get out of it and we continue to see high spots or things that are very motivating for us. That is the excitement we bring to the track each week and we have more new stuff this weekend that we are excited to take to the track and hopefully let the big black dyno out here being the race track prove all the hard work that we are doing behind the scenes, simulation, wind tunnel, chassis development, trying to understand tire data, all the little pieces of the puzzle that it takes. We are working very hard.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Pocono–Jimmie Johnson
