Menard Qualifies 20th At Las Vegas

Paul Menard and the No. 21 Menards/Aquafina Ford are set to line up 20th for Sunday’s South Point 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Menard opened Friday’s practice session with a lap at 186.800 miles per hour, which wound up being the 14th fastest speed in that session.

In the opening round of knock-out qualifying on Friday afternoon, he turned a lap at 187.071 mph, which was 14th best and good enough to advance to the second qualifying round.

His forward progress ended there as he toured the track at 186.432 mph, which put him 20th on the speed chart.

Eddie Wood pointed out that the good news on a hot day at Las Vegas is that there are two practice sessions on Saturday to find more speed in the Menard/Aquafina Fusion.

“We were a little disappointed with qualifying” Wood said. “We’ve had good speed at the mile-and-a-half tracks this year, so we’ll be OK on Sunday.”

The South Point 400 at Las Vegas is expected to start just after 3 p.m. on Sunday with TV coverage on NBCSN.

SONOMA, California (September 14, 2018) – Ryan Hunter-Reay led the way for Honda Friday at Sonoma Raceway, posting the fastest time in the first of two practice sessions for Sunday’s season finale – and championship deciding – INDYCAR Grand Prix of Sonoma.

Scott Dixon, leading the championship by 29 points (598-569) over primary rival Alexander Rossi, recorded his quickest lap of the day in the afternoon session to finish the day third overall. READING, Pa. (Sept. 14, 2018) — Courtney Force and her Advance Auto Parts team continued their regular season success into the Dodge NHRA Nationals, the first of six races in the NHRA Mello Yello Countdown to the Championship, by racing to the top of the qualifying board Friday at Maple Grove Raceway. John Force currently holds the No. 7 position while Robert Hight and Brittany Force will both continue qualifying from the No. 10 spot.

Force started the day with an early shutoff during the first qualifying session, coasting to 7.752 seconds at 84.20 mph. With the data from the first run and the better than expected track conditions, the Advance Auto Parts team came back in Q2 and ran a stout 3.907-seconds at 323.27 mph despite throwing the rods out. Menards/Aquafina Team Hoping To Build On Recent Success At Vegas

Paul Menard and the No. 21 Menards/Aquafina team won’t be a part of the Monster Energy Cup Series playoffs as they had planned. But that doesn’t mean they won’t be racing just as hard over the final 10 events of the 2018 season.

Menard finished the 26-race regular season in 18th place in the points standings, which left him two spots shy of being among the 16 drivers who will start the playoffs this weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, which statistically is Menard’s best track.

It’s also been a good one lately for his Wood Brothers team, which has an average finish of 7.3 over the past three races including a ninth-place run by Menard back in March in the third race of the season.

Eddie Wood said he and his teammates are ready to show the team’s potential over the final 10 races, and Sunday’s 400-miler at Las Vegas offers them a good chance to shine.

“We ran well at Vegas in the spring, and we’re looking forward to going back,” he said.

Wood remains positive about his team’s prospects despite missing the cut for the playoffs.

“Although a lot of unfortunate circumstances kept us from making the playoffs, we’re going to go at these final 10 races as hard as we can,” he said. “Our goal is to win a race, and winning races is what this sport is all about.”

Qualifying for the South Point 400 is set for Friday at 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time, and the race is expected to start just after 3 p.m. on Sunday with TV coverage for both events on NBCSN.
