(10/6/18, Bakersfield, CA – By Jim Allen) … Shane Golobic outdueled Willie Croft at the Dirt Track at Kern County Raceway Park and went on to earn his fourth King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Sprint Car Series 30-lap feature event of the season.

In fact, it was a season sweep of the two races at Kern County for Golobic and the Tarlton Motorsports Tachi-Palace & Casino-backed, Paul Baines-wrenched KPC team. This combination also claimed the KWS-NARC season opener on April 7th. Continue reading SHANE GOLOBIC SCORES THE “W” AT KCRP

Jeg Coughlin Jr. low qualifier again, leads Pro Stock field into Dallas eliminations

Jeg Coughlin Jr. low qualifier again, leads
Pro Stock field into Dallas eliminations
ENNIS, Texas (Oct. 6) — It’s hard to argue with the qualifying success Jeg Coughlin Jr. has enjoyed in the first three races of the Countdown to the Championship playoffs. Now if he can only translate his top qualifying efforts into race day wins, he’ll be tough to top.

For the second straight race, Coughlin qualified his JEGS.com Elite Performance Chevrolet Camaro at the top of the field. Two races back he was second overall, clearly signifying his car is at the top of the class at the moment. Coughlin now has four No. 1 qualifiers this year and 27 for his career. Those are great numbers, but adding to his career win total of 80 is what he’s really after.

“That’s the No. 1 item on the agenda,” Coughlin said. “The team has been working incredibly hard and we’ve had a great car. They were hard at it, once again, prepping for this weekend and it shows.

“We executed really well yesterday and today. We had the quickest car in two out of four sessions and now we’re sitting here as the No. 1 qualifier again so that’s really cool. Tip of the hat to our collection of crew chiefs and crew guys for all their hard work getting us to this point.”

So far, Coughlin has been the only Pro Stock driver to run in the 6.5-second range, securing the top spot with a 6.599 at 207.53 mph. He’s also posted a 6.602, a 6.624 and a 6.625.

All of Coughlin’s runs were at least a tenth of a second quicker than his scheduled first-round opponent Val Smeland, who anchored the 16-car field with a 6.747 at 206.35 mph.

Going into game day, I feel great behind the wheel,” Coughlin said. “I’m really looking forward to playing the day out completely. We are looking to make four good runs and hoist that Wally tomorrow night. This team’s been working hard for another win and I’d love nothing more than to see their efforts get rewarded at that level.”

Coughlin previously won races in Chicago, Bristol, Tenn., and Sonoma, Calif. He’s also won at the Texas Motorplex in the past (2002).

In Top Alcohol Dragster action, championship hopeful Troy Coughlin Jr. was upset by Shane Conway in the opening round of eliminations. The lowered-qualified Conway used his best pass of the weekend, a 5.323 at 266.74 mph, to hold-off Troy Jr. and his JEGS.com McPhillips Racing dragster, which posted a 5.352 at 272.23 mph.

Troy Jr. is the son of three-time and reigning Pro Mod champion Troy Coughlin. He’s also the nephew of Jeg Coughlin Jr.

Matt Tifft Advances to the Round of 8 with a 15th Place Finish in the No. 2 Fanatics / Surface Sunscreen Chevrolet

“This wasn’t our best weekend at Dover International Speedway, but we did what we needed to do to make it into the Round of 8. I just lacked the speed I needed to really drive up front like we had in the spring, but we definitely got our No. 2 Fanatics / Surface Sunscreen Chevrolet better throughout the weekend. I knew the No. 4 car would be doing everything he could to get in the next round, but luckily I was able to save the race car when he bumped us and kept myself from collecting any damage. From then on out, we just raced as aggressively as possible to make sure we stayed in the good to advance to the Round of 8. We’ll clean it up for the next round and hopefully be in a good spot to contend for a Championship Four spot at ISM Raceway.”

KYLE LARSON, NO. 42 CREDIT ONE BANK CAMARO ZL1 – Quickest in Saturday’s Happy Hour Practice Session

IT WOULD SEEM THE CAR IS THE BEST OUT THERE DO YOU AGREE WITH THAT?
“I think looking at actual lap tracker the No. 4 (Kevin Harvick) is better than we are, but I feel like our Credit One Bank Chevy is really good. I think we are a close second to him. He is able to run the bottom pretty well. It seems like I’ve got to kind of move around a little bit more, but so far, happy with it. I wish we would have gotten to qualify yesterday because I felt like we would have had a good shot at the pole, but in race trim as well we are fast. So, hopefully we can have a good race tomorrow. It’s a long, tough race. You’ve got to be perfect on the restarts, perfect on pit road and got to have a good long run car as well. So far the weekend has gone well and hopefully we can close it out with a good finish.”

ENNIS, Texas (Oct. 3, 2018) — Defending Top Fuel world champion Brittany Force hasn’t lost her confidence after a less than perfect season. Still in the hunt for a second championship, her confidence extends to her hard-working team who had a busy off week leading into the AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals at Texas Motorplex this weekend.

“We head into Dallas with a lot of changes. We are determined to turn this car around. We’ve really been struggling and we need to step up in points and go after some wins,” said Force, who is the defending event winner. “During this off week my team made a lot of changes to the car, they actually front halved it.
