Menard Finishes 29th In A Hurdle-Filled Weekend At Phoenix

November 11, 2018

After entering the weekend with optimism, Paul Menard and the No. 21 Menards/Cardell team experienced disappointment from the start to the finish of Sunday’s Can-Am 500 at ISM Raceway near Phoenix, ending the race with a 29th-place finish.

Menard qualified a strong 11th on Friday at Phoenix, but near the end of practice on Saturday he experienced a tire failure, which led to contact with the wall. Continue reading Menard Finishes 29th In A Hurdle-Filled Weekend At Phoenix

Austin Dillon Earns Top-10 Finish at ISM Raceway in
American Ethanol Chevrolet Camaro

“I’m really proud of this No. 3 team. This was one of the best Chevrolet Camaros we have brought to the racetrack all season long. We had solid practices, a strong qualifying effort and a good start to the race. We were able to earn points in both stages, but we made one adjustment that hurt the handling of the car and then we’re caught on pit road right as a caution came out. These guys never gave up, though. We got the wave around and were able to make another adjustment that really helped this American Ethanol Chevrolet over the final run. We also had a little luck on our side as we were able to avoid that big wreck late in the race. We’ll take this eighth-place finish and try to end the season on a high note at Homestead-Miami Speedway.”

YOU HAVE A VERY SOLID WEEKEND AS A WHOLE. CAN YOU TALK ABOUT YOUR DAY TODAY?
“Yeah for sure, I’m proud of our American Ethanol E15 car and our team. It was a solid run all weekend. We had a top 10 car. That is what we had. We proved that. It kind of bit us, we pitted and the caution came out and that was… we had to really fight to get back that, but luckily the wrecks happened. It put us back in a pretty good position. We decided to stay out on old tires and fight them off to the end. That was a fun run for our team and our Camaro. We will work on that. That is two top 10’s in a row and I’m happy.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Phoenix Post Race

Richard Childress Racing– Whelen Trusted to Perform 200

Matt Tifft and GoGreen Equipment Team Secure Top-Five Finish at ISM Raceway

“First of all, I have to thank all of my team for the No. 2 GoGreen Equipment Camaro they gave me today. We knew we were going to have to be on offense all day to have a shot to make the Championship 4 and we definitely did that. We had a great Stage 1, finishing sixth. Unfortunately, I was just a touch too quick on pit road and got a speeding penalty before Stage 2, which forced me to start in the back. Our Camaro was really fast though and that helped me get back into the top-10 prior to the end of that stage’s conclusion. We needed a win at that point to advance to the next round, and we had a couple of shots at it. In the end, my Camaro just built a little bit too tight to get it done in the closing laps. I know my team will keep after it though, and we’ll go for the win next weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway.”

POMONA, Calif. (Nov. 9, 2018) — In the chase for his third world championship, reigning Funny Car champion Robert Hight lined up with J.R. NOW THAT YOU HAVE BEEN ON TRACK A LITTLE BIT, HAVE YOU GOTTEN MORE OF A SENSE OF HOW RESTARTS WILL GO AND HOW THE FINISH MIGHT GO?
“Yeah, the track to me is the same, which is a good thing, I think this is a great track that we come to. I think the visual of what you see if probably the biggest difference and what I see, coming off Turn 2 I guess is what it is now is a little odd, but I think the speed is going to be so slow for those restarts, I don’t think that is going to be an issue being in the corner like that. So, being in front of the fans and they will be able to see it, so that will be good.”

POMONA, Calif. (Nov. 7, 2018) — It’s been a tough season for the 2017 NHRA Top Fuel world champion that started at the Winternationals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, but Brittany Force hasn’t let 2018 taint her fond memories of the Auto Club NHRA Finals as she heads back to her home track to close out the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season.

DETROIT (Nov. 7, 2018) – Twenty-three races stretching 273 days and encompassing hundreds of launches form a standing start on a narrow 1,000-foot proving ground have been a prologue for the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) championship-deciding season finale.

Auto Club Raceway in Pomona, California, hosted the first race of the season in February – where 2017 Chevrolet champions Brittany Force (Top Fuel), Robert Hight (Funny Car) and Bo Butner (Pro Stock) were feted again before the rigorous campaign commenced.

This weekend, the racetrack 30 miles east of Los Angeles will host the Auto Club NHRA Finals, and Hight and sophomore Chevrolet driver Ta[nner Gray aim to wrap up titles in their respective professional categories in the last of six races in the NHRA Mello Yello Countdown to the Championship.

The event features a points-and-a-half format, so each elimination round will be accentuated.

Hight, driver of the Auto Club of Southern California Chevrolet Camaro SS, enters the event second in the Funny Car standings as he seeks to become the first Funny Car repeat champion since teammate John Force in 2001-02. Hight has posted four victories, including two in the Countdown, and three runner-up finishes this season.

“We are behind but we are going to go in there very aggressive and try to gobble up every point we can get,” said Hight, who has four career wins at the racetrack.

“All we can do is what we can do. We’ve already won both AAA races this year and we need to win the third. That’s going to give us the best possible chance to win two championships in a row.”

Gray, 19, is seeking to follow up his 2017 NHRA rookie of the year season with being crowned the youngest pro champion in NHRA history.

The Pro Stock front-runner has won a class-high seven races in 10 final-round appearances driving the Gray Motorsports/Valvoline Chevrolet Camaro SS and holds a 140-point advantage over five-time class champion Jeg Coughlin Jr.

“It’s the only goal I have,” Gray said. “One of the things that’s helped for the success this year is everyone having the same mindset and same goal. We’ve been able to click, and for the most part it’s been a really smooth season for us. I’ve learned from all the mistakes I made last year and I knew what to expect going into the Countdown this year. It’s made everything a lot smoother.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NHRA–Pomona Preview
