The car slowly climbed up all weekend. We were P-10 in the first few practices and moved to P-5. To get the pole for the first race of the season is awesome. Johnson and the No. 48 Camaro ZL1 team were the quickest among the Chevrolet’s placing seventh on the final practice speed chart. Johnson will start tomorrow’s TicketGuardian 500 from the 15th position.

“It went well. Still looking for more, but in general a smooth day of … really two smooth days of practice sessions and trying to understand this new package. WHAT DO YOU THINK THE PHOENIX RACE IS GOING TO LOOK LIKE?
“Yeah, I mean I think it’s going to be more like… I don’t think it’s going to change short track racing nearly as much as it is going to change everywhere else, we go. I think it will look more like what you saw in 2014/2015 when we had a lot of downforce at the short tracks. I’m looking forward to it. Obviously, the reconfiguration made restarts pretty crazy and I love that race track. It will be fun.
