“Our NAPA Camaro ZL1 was really fast tonight. A big thanks to everybody at Hendrick Motorsports. The Hendrick engine shop does a great job. Brought a lot of steam tonight. I am proud of Alan and our entire group. All of our partners – Hooters, Kelly Blue Book, Mountain Dew, Sun Energy, Valvoline and of course Chevrolet, like I said. We are excited to get to Sunday. TALK ABOUT THIS BLOG EXPERIENCE.
“The first episode just came out. It’s been really cool. We started from the time I left my house. I left the fireplace going and the coffee pot going because I was so anxious to get here. I’ve been trying to capture as much raw moments of my life and as far as what I’m going through as a new dad and being in racing. It’s opening up my life to fans and allow them to see me, and if they like me or not, to interact and create a closer relationship. The videos and vlog will shift and change as people tell me what they like to see and don’t want to see. Hopefully have fun with it. What hit me as I’ve been doing it is whether this is a successful thing or not, my great, great, great, great grandkids will have YouTube – or whatever it’s called then – that will be holding these videos and see what I did. I think that’s super cool that I can open up my life and know that the future of my family can see what I’ve done, be documented on the internet.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Daytona Media Day–Ty Dillon

OUTLOOK FOR SEASON WITH CHANGE TO HENDRICK MOTORSPORTS SUPPORT:
“The new relationship with Hendrick Motorsports has been good. They have been so helpful in trying to develop our stuff. More than anything, just being able to have that technical alliance and for them to come over and make sure we are building the cars the right way and kind of going the same direction has been a lot of help. Chris Buescher tested at Las Vegas and I though the car was a lot fast. He talked highly that between what we have learned from Hendrick and the new Camaro ZL1 body was a lot better. We still have a lot of room to improve, but for sure, it is an organization that is going to help us a lot. Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Daytona Media Day–AJ Allmendinger

SO, YOU DO FEEL LIKE COMING BACK FOR A SECOND YEAR THERE IS MORE TO BUILD ON?
“Like all of the time you spend trying to get people to work together and get those relationships in place and learn everybody’s work habits that takes time. That is tough at the beginning of the season, especially when you look at the West Coast swing early on. We were trying to build parts for a second team then. It was just a lot of work that we weren’t focusing on speed of our racecars we were focusing on having race cars and having people and we don’t have to do that this season. I think that is a pretty big thing. Even when you go from team to team and people have worked together and I’m just a transplant into a team that has already been there, there is still a period of getting to know the crew chief, figuring out on our scale of how we balance a car out, all of that is done this season. I think that is a big thing to have because it is tough without that. We have had an Xfinity season where we had the same thing where we had the same group, but that off-season we were told that we didn’t know if we were going to make it the whole season. We were probably going to run the first 10 races and then have to shut it down. So, that is a whole different kind of stress and we don’t have any of that. We know what we are showing up to do. We know who is going to be there to do it and we are in a good place to be able to do it.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Daytona Media Day–Chris Buescher

Doesn’t it seem like just a few years ago you got here?
“No (laughter). I mean, I feel like I’ve been here a long time. This is the start of my 27th year of racing. It all gets a little bit blurry. Kind of like the mile-and-a-half’s, they all get a little bit blurry. I’m like, Where am I at, until I get inside and get in the car. YOU HAVEN’T MOVED AROUND MUCH IN YOUR CAREER. DOES THE DAY-TO-DAY JOB OF RACE CAR DRIVER HAVE A TOTALLY DIFFERENT TIMELINE OF COMMITMENTS OF WHAT A TEAM EXPECTS OF YOU DOES THAT VARY FROM TEAM TO TEAM?

It is always kind of moving because it’s changed for me each year even with the same teams or different team’s different sponsors or same sponsors. Yeah, you just never know exactly what will be asked of you or how your season will look from that side of things.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Daytona Media Day–Kasey Kahne

What would it mean to get your first win in the Daytona 500 in the 88?
“It would be really special to win the 500. I have a long day on Sunday to try to make that happen. We’ve been close to winning races with the 88 team before, so I know we can pick up where we left off and do it again.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Daytona Media Day–Alex Bowman

I just didn’t know what to do with it. Now, I feel like I’m a little more experienced in the draft and feel more comfortable in the draft with a fast car. Could you talk a little bit about how to someone who’s just like a casual NASCAR observer, who doesn’t really pay scant attention to the sport, might see you coming in and say, I wonder if they’re giving him a ride because of his heritage, where if they do their homework they’ll see you have won on all these levels.
“Yeah, that’s the gap we have to kind of bridge there. I kind of went on a hiatus these last three years just giving it my all and just coming up short in the XFINITY Series, and I think with the amount of coverage that I’m getting right now and the entourage that I have following, a lot of people expect, oh, who’s this kid coming up through with this media; he should be winning. And they don’t really pay enough attention to the sport to know the ins and outs to know that winning one of these races is not just a cake walk. It could be taken away from you in just a matter of seconds, inches. There’s that ‑‑ it’s hard to relay that message. It’s not ‑‑ like I’m saying, it’s not turn on the TV, oh, he’s running 15th. Well, that’s ‑‑ who is this kid. You’ve got to look at all the circumstances. You’ve got to look at what I’m going through that day, if we’ve missed the setup or even if we’ve had engine problems or something. That’s just something that’s just holding us back. Some of these days, some of those races I’m going to be running top 5 and I’ve got to be able to do the best at managing that. There’s going to be some weekends where I can’t find my way out of 20th or 15th. That’s just like everybody in the sport. We all have our good days, we all have our bad days. You’ve just got to capitalize on those good ones.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Daytona Media Day–Bubba Wallace

“I think I just need to be me. Frankly, not to avoid your question, but it’s not really relevant to what I need to be focused on, right? YOU DO A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF IRACING. WOULD YOU RECOMMEND IT TO YOUNG DRIVERS?
“I don’t know if it’s a platform to develop drivers. I think it’s more of something that if you use it the right way it’s a tool that you can use to improve your skills or you can start out and see where you stand. For me, I had not been in a racing family and did not have any connection with this, so iRacing was my chance to really see if I had any ability to drive a car. I think from that standpoint it’s a great starter for understanding if you do have some ability and seeing if that can translate, but as far as taking the application of a guy that wins on there and put him in an actual car it would be nice to see but I don’t know if everyone would have that translation. I think it’s a great simulation program and I certainly use it during the week to improve my skills.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Daytona Media Day–William Byron
