Inside Line Promotions – NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. (Feb. 17, 2020) – Giovanni Scelzi enjoyed a successful start to his season, which began in sunny Florida with a trio of pavement late model races at New Smyrna Speedway.

Scelzi drove for Mark Kraus during three nights of the World Series of Asphalt spectacle, which provided an opportunity to gain experience around the high-banked oval prior to Scelzi’s NASCAR ARCA Menards Series debut for Bill McAnally Racing. Motorcraft/Quick Lane Team Ready To Wrap Up Memorable Speedweeks At Daytona

February 16, 2019

For Matt DiBenedetto and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane team, the Speedweeks preliminaries are over, a Sunday rainout is behind them, and the focus now is on a Monday afternoon conclusion of the Great American Race, the 62nd annual Daytona 500.

Sunday’s Daytona 500 was halted after 20 laps due to persistent rain with the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Mustang in 13th place.

Myatt Snider Kicks Off 2020 NASCAR Xfinity Series Season with Pole and Strong Run in the No. 21 TaxSlayer Chevrolet Camaro Before Mid-Race Contact

“It’s a shame we had to tear up such a fast TaxSlayer Camaro. I saw someone try to clear themselves and thought I had it cleared, but he came up at the very last second and caught me in the left rear. I’m not sure what people were thinking there. Even though it wasn’t the end we were hoping for, it was good to start off my relationship with Richard Childress Racing with a pole and to lead laps at Daytona. I have to give thanks to everyone who made this possible this weekend, especially Richard Childress, TaxSlayer, and my crew chief, Andy Street. They all put together a phenomenal race car and it was a fantastic opportunity for me, but it’s a shame I got caught up in somebody else’s mess. That’s just racing at Daytona. You try and make it through everything and hope you’re there at the end, but sometimes it doesn’t happen.”

JIMMIE JOHNSON, NO. 48 ALLY CAMARO ZL1 1LE met with media and discussed his thoughts on what he’d like to do after 2020, practice sessions and how the new race car is performing thus far at Daytona, his teammates and the Duel races, and more. FULL TRANSCRIPT:

THIS IS YOUR LAST FULL TIME SEASON, BUT MAYBE NOT NECESSARILY YOUR LAST DAYTONA 500. WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO THE MOST WHEN YOU’RE NOT RACING FULL TIME ANYMORE?
“It could be my last 500. I don’t know. I am officially retiring from 38 weekends a year at the end of the season. I do know that. But the right situation, I would certainly consider it. I know that I can’t shut off my competitive nature at the end of the year and call it good. So, I would entertain NASCAR, IndyCar, Sports Car, Off-Road, Mountain Bike, Marathon; ski racing recently with my daughter. I’ve got to race. So, I’m open to things that would be fun. Things that are on my bucket list. And, of course, if there’s an opportunity here with Hendrick Motorsports and being with Rick, I’d certainly look at that, too. Are you thinking what I’ll be doing next year at this time?” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Jimmie Johnson

DiBenedetto Has Strong Drive In Duel At Daytona

February 14, 2020

Matt DiBenedetto turned in a strong performance in the second of two Bluegreen Vacations Duels at Daytona International Speedway on Thursday night, running as high as second place before being shuffled to seventh at the finish.

That earned him the 16th starting spot for Sunday’s 62nd annual Daytona 500 and four Stage points that he’ll carry throughout the season.

DiBenedetto started his Duel from eighth place but quickly latched onto the rear bumper of fellow Ford driver Kevin Harvick. The Blue Oval duo sliced their way through the field and were running 1-2 after just five laps. Continue reading DiBenedetto Has Strong Drive In Duel At Daytona

Austin Dillon and the Bass Pro Shops / Tracker Off Road Team Survive Duel and Capture Sixth Place Finish at Daytona

“It’s a pretty good start to the season to earn some points tonight in the Bass Pro Shops/Tracker Off Road Chevrolet. Those extra points could come in handy during the season. We had a great race. We started losing the front end in dirty air and we are lacking some speed, but we have two practice sessions left to work on our car. The No. 47 car was just so unbelievably fast tonight. I was holding him up when I was leading, but when he was in front he pulled me pretty well. I think we’re strong enough to put together a solid race on Sunday if all of the Chevrolets work together.”

Tyler Reddick and Caterpillar Team Finish 10th During Duel at Daytona International Speedway

“We were in a really good position to start the race off with our Caterpillar Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE. I was being a little cautious at first with how aggressive I was going to block for position in the outer lane. On Lap 4 or 5, I had a good run on the 1 and was running in the top five. I wanted to move our Chevrolet further up still and made a move to the outside but got put three-wide and shuffled back. That affected our race a little bit, especially when it started to single out. I started to panic a little bit then, but my crew chief, Randall Burnett, and spotter, Derek Kneeland, did a great job of reminding me there was still a lot of race left to run. The caution towards the end of the race helped stack everyone back up again, which was great since I was able to push the issue on the aggression side a little bit more. It’s hard when a bunch of Fords are lined up on the outside to get one of them to jump out and go with you, but I had some good cars to push me from behind which helped us climb back up through the field. There were a couple moves I could have tried to get a few more spots, but that would have been too risky for our starting spot in the DAYTONA 500. We kept our No. 8 Caterpillar Chevrolet clean tonight, and that’s what mattered most.”

CONSISTENTLY TAKING THE CHECKERED FLAG
Chevrolet leads all manufacturers with 24 Daytona 500 victories — more than all non-GM brands combined. A Chevrolet has won four times in the past 10 years, tying for the most among manufacturers.

STARTING FROM THE POLE AGAIN
A Chevrolet has started the Daytona 500 from the pole for eight consecutive years, which is the longest streak of any manufacturer at Daytona International Speedway. A Chevrolet driver has sat on the pole 28 times, the most among all manufacturers. On Feb. 9, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., driving the No. 47 Kroger Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE for JTG Daugherty Racing, vaulted to the top with a lap of 46.253 seconds at 194.582 mph for his first pole since 2017, third of his career and the team’s first since 2015. Just kind of hanging out, looking around, seeing what it’s like, seeing what kind of develops as the year goes on. Of course, my focus and priority is here. ON THE 2020 CAMARO ZL1 1LE:
“it has shown well in the wind tunnel. That’s the real data we have to go off of. The balance last year at Daytona and Talladega isn’t all that different with the new Camaro. It’ll show up more so at the 1.5-miles and short tracks later on.”

TALK ABOUT THE UNIQUENESS OF SPEEDWEEKS. CAN YOU SEE IT CONDENSED BEGINNING NEXT SEASON TO EITHER ONE WEEK?
“It’s always great to have a week that leads into the Daytona 500. I think that’s the reasoning for the Clash and Qualifying to be on a separate weekend. I don’t mind it being spread out for a week. We have to kind of get the rust knocked off things. We’ve got to have a couple practice sessions and the Qualifier. It all makes sense the way it’s set up. But, could we do things with the Clash and do things different there? Sure. But, I really like the way Qualifying is a week out and leads us into the Great American race.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Daytona Media Day–Kurt Busch

TY DILLON, NO. 13 GEICO CAMARO ZL1 1LE, Daytona 500 Media Day Highlights:

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED IN YOUR PAST DAYTONA 500 STARTS?
“Just growing in confidence in my approach to this and trusting my instincts. And what I’ve learned over the years, and this will be my sixth Daytona 500, is just trust my instincts with my energy of the pack that I see in front of me and not worrying about the amount of laps in the race or how far into the race we are. But to be on the mindset of a little defensive driving, skill if our car is not the best car. If we have a really fast car that can lead lines, I change my approach sometimes. But if I have car that needs to be a pushing car or doesn’t have the steam to pull out of the pack, I just have to have a mindset of feeling the energy and back out when I need to back out and see what’s going on with the race. We just haven’t had that many races that finish with less than 10 cars. My goal is to be at the end of the race and have a restart in the top two or three rows, and we’ve done that the last couple races. So, I think doing that we give ourselves the best opportunity to win a race.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Daytona Media Day–Ty Dillon

Obviously, from the driver role, I feel like all four of us bring something different to the table, are able to look at things differently and help each other. At the same time, I feel like Jeff Gordon does a really good job of being really involved and having a driving background helps from our side of things. But we haven’t really talked about it, so it will be interesting to see.”

REGARDING THE 2021 SCHEUDLE, HAS NASCAR COME TO YOU GUYS, THE DRIVERS, FOR YOUR OPINION?
“Yeah, they have come to the drivers for sure and said some things and have given us updates. But I feel like it’s still their choice, it’s their sport, you know? If you go to too many drivers, you get too many opinions. Everybody wants something different that benefits them added to the schedule. I just said I wanted another short track, Iowa Speedway, that is a place I run good at so that is why I want to go there. It’s also a good market. I think they are doing a good job with just moving on and putting different markets in there. And with just changing it up. I think what Pocono is doing is good and they do a good job of selling that track out. They have taken their two dates and added it to one race weekend, and I think other tracks should do that and allow us to go to some other places. I think the two-day show is interesting for our sport.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Daytona Media Day–Austin Dillon
