For Ryan Blaney and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane team, running 400 laps in Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway depended on running one a fast one in Thursday’s qualifying session.

Without a provisional starting spot to fall back on, Blaney and his No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Fusion had to be fast enough to earn a starting spot for NASCAR’s Memorial Day weekend classic. For many, the weekend is about motor racing, with the Monaco Grand Prix, the Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 all running on the Sunday before Memorial Day. Wood Brothers Racing has become something of a common face in NASCAR. Their consistent attendance year in and year out has possibly gone unnoticed to some, so one member of the family has set out to make sure the team’s founding fathers get the recognition they finally deserve for their unwavering show of perseverance.

Jon Wood, third-generation family member and former Wood Brothers Racing driver, grew up with a fascination for a very peculiar book. That book came to his elementary school once a year when the bookmobile would roll into town. The one book that was so captivating was the Guinness Book of World Records. “From the beginning I have been fascinated with the Guinness Book of World Records,” said Wood. “I remember thinking that one day I would figure out a way to do something worthy of being in the Book. (December 22, 2014) – Wood Brothers Racing announced today that Jeremy Bullins will rejoin the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Fusion team next season to serve as the crew chief for Ryan Blaney in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, beginning with the 2015 Daytona 500. Bullins returns to the Wood Brothers organization following a successful three-year tenure with Team Penske’s No. 22 NASCAR Nationwide Series team that produced 21 wins and two consecutive NASCAR Nationwide Series Owners’ Championships. When Trevor Bayne and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane team hit the track at Texas Motor Speedway, team founder Glen Wood will have one eye on the No. 21 Ford Fusion and the other on the three Ford drivers among the eight in the Eliminator Round of the Chase for the Sprint Cup.
