Anderson Determined to Turn First Round Victory for Summit Racing into Win
Event: 7th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals
Location: Summit Motorsports Park, Norwalk, Ohio
Day/Date: Saturday, July 6, 2013
Qualifying for the 7th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals has concluded and Pro Stock driver Greg Anderson is prepared to make his 303rd raceday start at an event that is very special to the entire team. The race in Norwalk, the 13th of 24 on the 2013 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series schedule, bears the name of their title sponsor, and it takes place at one of the finest facilities on the tour, Summit Motorsports Park. Flying the Summit Racing banner on the door of his sleek white Chevrolet Camaro is an honor that Anderson does not take lightly.
“We want to do well here; we always come to Norwalk with the hope of really making the great folks at Summit Racing Equipment proud,” said Anderson, the No. 8 qualifier. “We’ve got both the Summit Racing Camaros in the field here, and now tomorrow we’ll take on the task of getting one of them to the winner’s circle.”
The first round will determine which of the two Team Summit steeds will have a shot at running for the trophy as Anderson and his teammate, Jason Line, will square off in the opening act for only the fifth time in a decade of racing together. Although it isn’t an ideal scenario – the perfect outcome at a Summit Racing-sponsored event is, of course, an all-Summit Racing final round and a guaranteed trophy for the group that has collectively amassed 104 national event wins – but the team is ready to make the most of what lies ahead. The outcome of the first round will determine who will face the No. 1 qualifier, Allen Johnson, who has a first-round bye in the 15-car field.
“We don’t care which car goes forward, as long as we learn something for second round,” said Anderson. “It’s going to be a tough one, so we need to learn all that we can first round so that we have a chance. We need to be sure that we go into that round and give the No. 1 qualifier something for his money.”
During qualifying, Anderson’s Summit Chevy was consistently a top-half car as he clicked off a 6.638, 6.644, 6.652 and a 6.667, each at over 208 mph. Although Anderson was solidly in the field throughout the first two days of the event in a car that is relatively new (he debuted the white Camaro in Bristol just last month), the Mooresville, N.C.-based driver had hoped for a loftier position from which to start.
“There is a certain level of frustration because even though we’re making gains, they’re just not happening fast enough for our comfort,” said Anderson. “But this is where we have to take a deep breath, calm down, and keep pecking away at it. The Summit Racing team has very high expectations for ourselves and there is a very good reason for that – we know just what we’re capable of.
“Tomorrow, we will make the most of that first round. The goal from there will be to get the best Summit Racing Camaro to the winner’s circle.”

Line Fueled with Resolve as Team Summit Leaves Norwalk
NORWALK, Ohio (July 7, 2013) – Pro Stock driver Jason Line and his Summit Racing teammate Greg Anderson were prepared to battle all the way to the final round at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals in Norwalk. They were disappointingly stopped short at one of their favorite events on the Mello Yello Drag Racing Series tour, but the team is filled with more resolve than ever before and are already trucking down the road to test their Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaros before the next event on the tour.
Line’s best time of 6.645 at 208.52 mph set him up for a start from the No. 9 qualifying position and a first-round meeting with Anderson, the No. 8 qualifier, for only the fifth time in the history of KB Racing. Although the pair never like to meet in the first round and much prefer a final round meeting, particularly at their sponsor’s main event, they were determined to make the most of the circumstances.
“The advantage to having to run your teammate in the first round is that you can take advantage of that and use it as a test run,” said Line, a two-time series Pro Stock champion. “That’s just what we did. We tried to learn something so that we could hopefully have an advantage over the guy in the other lane in the second round. Unfortunately, things just didn’t work out as planned.”
In their morning meeting, Anderson was too quick at the starting line and launched .027-second too soon, illuminating a red light yet racing to a quick 6.658. Line was second to launch but clocked a remarkable .002-second reaction and turned the final timer on the racetrack to a 6.661, 208.39.
The second round meeting with Allen Johnson was pre-determined to be a challenge; Johnson was the No. 1 qualifier at the event and advanced from the first round on a bye run due to a 15-car field.
Line did his job on the starting line and had a .010-second advantage as the two passed the tree, but Johnson took the lead and won with a 6.620 to 6.668.
“We changed quite a few things in the first round in preparation for the second round, but we weren’t successful in determining what we could do to move ahead,” said Line. “But the good news is that we were the first pair out on Sunday, and that has been something we’ve struggled with in the past – being the first car to go down the track – but both of our Summit Racing Camaros made it down the racetrack. We weren’t as fast as we would have liked, but we both made it down, and that gives us something to work with.”
Line leaves Norwalk sitting fourth in the Mello Yello Series Pro Stock standings and looks eagerly ahead to the next race on the tour, the Mile-High Nationals in Denver in just two weeks.
“We’re not going home right now, we’re going straight to Denver tonight instead, and we’re going to test our cars up there on that mountain,” said Line. “We have some work to do, and Team Summit is more than willing to do whatever it takes.”
Summit Racing–Line Challenged but Ready to Bounce Back on Sunday in Norwalk
Line Challenged but Ready to Bounce Back on Sunday in Norwalk
Event: 7th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals
Location: Summit Motorsports Park, Norwalk, Ohio
Day/Date: Saturday, July 6, 2013
Jason Line and the Summit Racing Pro Stock team are eager to take the lessons they learned during qualifying at Summit Motorsports Park and turn them into a trophy on raceday at their sponsor’s main event, the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals. Starting as the No. 9 qualifier, Line will have his work cut out for him as he braces for a first-round match with his KB Racing teammate Greg Anderson for only the fifth time in their history of competiting together.
Line has had a top-half car all year but was uncharacteristically challenged during qualifying in Norwalk. Fresh out of the trailer, the two-time world champion wheeled the blue Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro to a decent 6.645 at 208.52 mph that was seventh quickest of the session for the factory hot rods. However, in the second session, he began a journey down a tough road when a part gave way in the engine. Line mustered a troubled 8.51 and was prepared to come back hitting heavy on Saturday but was surprised by a racetrack that had morphed into a character quite different than the hospitable surface of the first day of the event.
“[The car] had too much wheel speed and spun the tire,” said Line. “It did the same thing on both runs today, just shook the tires. Yesterday we had a great racetrack and were too safe, we didn’t give it enough power, but today we tried to apply more power and the racetrack was not the same. A few people had problems with it, but that’s not an excuse for us. The Summit Racing crew is a great team with a lot of knowledge, we just missed it, but you can bet we will be doing everything we can to make sure we don’t miss it tomorrow.”
On Sunday, Line and Anderson will meet in the first round, and the winner is assured a quarterfinals meeting with Allen Johnson, the No. 1 qualifier who was afforded a bye run based on the 15-car field.
“Really, it doesn’t matter which of the Summit Racing Camaros advances to the second round,” said Line. “What matters is that we are able to figure out what it’s going to take to keep on going until we get one of our cars to the winner’s circle tomorrow. I don’t like having to race my teammate in the first round, but there is nothing we’d like better than to turn this into something positive. The Summit Racing team will be pulling together to do whatever it takes to get that trophy.”

Event: 7th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals
Location: Summit Motorsports Park, Norwalk, Ohio
Day/Date: Friday, July 5, 2013
Summit Racing Pro Stock driver Greg Anderson made two decent runs on the first day of qualifying at his sponsor’s title event, the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio. For Anderson, however, decent isn’t even in the ballpark of where he and Team Summit want to be; the dedicated group wants to be at the top of the pack, and that is just what they’ll be reaching for on Saturday at Summit Motorsports Park.
Out of the box, Anderson’s Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro was well prepared to glide down the racing surface at one of the team’s most favored facilities, and Anderson soared to a 6.638 at 208.59 mph to grab the No. 5 spot at the conclusion of the first session of qualifying following a morning that was plagued with intermittent rain showers.
In the second session, Anderson again made another respectable pass but surprisingly slowed to a 6.644 at 208.97.
“The first run was decent and safe,” said Anderson, who finished the day in the No. 7 position. “We had to prove the racetrack was good, and we had to find out what it would hold. We did that, and unfortunately we just missed it on the second run. We were way too soft on the clutch.
“But that decision is behind us, and now we plan on making better decisions tomorrow. The good news is that the racetrack is great here at Summit Motorsports Park, just as you would expect it to be. Hopefully, the weather will be good for tomorrow and we can make up for tonight.”
Qualifying will continue on Saturday with two more passes before the fields are set for the 13th race of 24 on NHRA’s Mello Yello Series 2013 tour.

Line Puts up a Good Number, Ready to Start Fresh on Saturday
Event: 7th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals
Location: Summit Motorsports Park, Norwalk, Ohio
Day/Date: Friday, July 5, 2013
Pro Stock driver Jason Line and his Summit Racing teammate Greg Anderson are looking forward to the second day of qualifying at their sponsor’s main event, the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at Summit Motorsports Park, following a set of qualifying runs that have them warmed up and ready to make big moves.
Line, of Mooresville, N.C., was stellar in his initial launch, recording a .014-second reaction time, and made a safe and strong pass in his first venture of the weekend down the quarter-mile racetrack in Norwalk, Ohio. He cleared the finish line with a 6.645 at 208.52 mph and was seventh quickest overall.
With a good read on the racetrack, Line was eager to return for the later session and have another go. The blue Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro was again solid on the starting line and in the early increments on the track, but as his car approached the back half of the course, a part within the engine gave way.
“We just hurt a part, nothing major, but it’s something that will require a little time to fix,” said Line, whose official time in the second session was 8.518-second. “The good news is that the Summit Racing team is well-prepared, and we have several engines with equal power, so we decided to change it tonight rather than fix it here.
“We will take care of the small issue when we get back to the KB Racing shop, but for now, we felt it was a better decision to start fresh tomorrow. Thankfully, it was nothing catastrophic, and Team Summit will have another couple of runs to make improvements before Sunday.”
Line ended the first day of the event in the No. 8 position. Two sessions of qualifying are scheduled for Saturday, at 11:45 am and 2:15 pm (Eastern).
Summit Racing–Anderson Hoping to Raise the Bar at Summit Motorsports Park
Mooresville, N.C., July 3, 2013 – Pro Stock driver Greg Anderson is eager to jump back in his Chevrolet Camaro this weekend for the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio, for several reasons. Anderson relishes each opportunity to race in front of his sponsors at their title event, and this will be the third time this season he has had the honor to do so. The special event is even more exciting for the four-time season champion because he is hot off of a final round appearance last weekend in Chicago and fired up to close the deal with a victory.
There is no finer facility to accomplish the task for a Summit Racing driver – the racetrack in Norwalk bears the name of the high performance mail-order parts leader and is in very close proximity to the company’s headquarters.
“Last weekend was definitely a morale booster, and we’re ready to build off of that,” said Anderson. “The fact that we now get to go to Summit Motorsports Park is just the icing on the cake. This is a race we look forward to all year, and we hope to really give all the Summit Racing brass and employees who come out to support us something to cheer about.
“That racetrack is the best place for us to perform, it is very rewarding to do well there, and we’ve gone there before and really turned the team around. Right now, Team Summit is really heading in the right direction, and I give a lot of credit to the employees and bosses at Summit Racing for their encouragement. They always make us want to raise the bar, and hopefully we’ll do that for them.”
Anderson, a 74-time national event winner, is heavy in the hunt for his first win of the 2013 season, and the final round finish in Chicago just a handful of days ago was only further indication of the progress that the tireless team has made over the course of the season.
A regular top-half qualifier, Anderson made the daring move to bring out a brand new white Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro in Bristol, and the immediately favorable results included a trip to the semifinals and a journey that fell just one round short of a final-round appearance. Last week, the Mooresville, N.C.-based driver made up ground in the series standings with his strong performance and moved up one position, to seventh.
“We need to capitalize on what we’ve learned, and we have every capability to do that,” said Anderson. “There really is no better place for this Summit Racing team to excel, and each of us on the KB Racing team is looking forward to getting to Summit Motorsports Park and putting on a great show for our sponsor. They’re our family, really, and we want to make them proud.”
Summit Racing–Line Looks to Start Second Half of Season on a High Note
Mooresville, N.C., July 3, 2013 – Jason Line and the Summit Racing Pro Stock team are making their way to one of the most anticipated events on NHRA’s Mello Yello Drag Racing Series tour this weekend, the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio, for the first race of the second half of 2013. Line is in pursuit of his second win of the season and second at the racetrack that flies the banner of his title sponsor.
“The KB Racing team has historically risen to the occasion at Team Summit Races, and this one is especially big for us because it’s at Summit Motorsports Park,” said Line. “It’s always fun when you get to come out and race in front of your sponsor, but to get to do so at the track that bears their name is even more exciting. The Summit Racing team definitely looks forward to this race every year. The goal is always to represent Summit Racing the best we can, but we especially want to do well this weekend.”
Line came achingly close to parking his Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro in the winner’s circle in Norwalk last year; he was just one win light shy of claiming his second victory at the facility after grabbing the trophy in 2009, and the Mooresville, N.C.-based driver certainly had the car to beat as the No. 2 qualifier.
“It’s always a great thing to get one of the Summit Racing Camaros to the final round,” said Line. “But it’s disappointing to come so close and see let the win get away. We don’t want to see that happen again, and the KB Racing team hasn’t really taken much of a breath lately because we want to have the fastest cars out there so we have the best chance of bringing home those trophies.”
Line, who has competed in 225 NHRA events as a Pro Stock driver, possesses 30 national event wins in 63 final rounds and has two world championships in the category where wins and losses are typically recorded by mere fractions of a second. The chief dyno operator lives his life away from the racetrack finessing engines at the KB Racing shop near Charlotte, the heart of the Motorsports capital of the United States, and has seen Team Summit power come to life through top-half qualifying efforts at ever event on the schedule this year. Seven times he has been fifth or better when the line-up was finalized.
“The season is more than half over now,” said Line, noting that this is the 13th of 24 races of the 2013 NHRA tour. “It’s neat that we get to start this second half in Norwalk at Summit Motorsports Park. Hopefully, we’ll get off on the right foot. The Bader family always put on a great show, and they have a nice facility that feels like home for the Summit Racing team. This race gives us a chance to see a lot of the folks from Summit who we don’t get to see the rest of the year, and we really want to do well for them. This would be a great time for our Summit Racing Camaros to perform to their full potential.”
Summit Racing–Line Marking Progress as Series Leaves Chicago
Line Marking Progress as Series Leaves Chicago
JOLIET, Ill. (June 30, 2013) – Summit Racing Pro Stock driver Jason Line was able to identify areas of success as well as a few trouble spots that need a little more fine-tuning over the course of the weekend at Route 66 Raceway near Chicago. The Mooresville, N.C.-based competitor had one of the quickest cars at the critical early incremental markers on the racetrack throughout qualifying and on raceday, and the important progress should be a building block as Team Summit continues their journey towards refreshing a championship-worthy program.
Line tucked away a 6.590 to 6.722 victory over Mark Martino in round one at the Route 66 NHRA Nationals and got the jump start on Jeg Coughlin in their second round meeting but fell into tire shake and gave up the advantage. Coughlin inched ahead for the 6.595 to 6.642 win, but Line counted the positives and is aiming to continue his consistent progress as the Countdown to the Championship comes into view.
“I was pretty happy with the 60-foot times we saw with my Summit Racing Camaro,” said Line, who qualified the blue Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro in the No. 6 position with a best time of 6.584 at 209.33 mph. “That was good, and if we hadn’t shaken in the second round, we would have won that round and it would have made all the difference in our day. We would have gone down a decidedly different path. But still, the Summit Racing team took a step forward. We didn’t have the performance that we were looking for this weekend, but we made some strides.”
Line was particularly pleased to see his Summit Racing teammate Greg Anderson make progress this weekend with the new white Summit Racing Camaro. Anderson recorded his best qualifying performance since the race in Atlanta earlier this year and finished in the final round – his first of the season, while Line won the race in Houston.
“This didn’t start out to be a very good year for us in terms of what this KB Racing team is used to,” admitted Line. “We’ve both struggled, but maybe Greg has struggled a little bit more, so it’s good to see him have a weekend like this. It certainly helped his situation points-wise, and anytime you get to the final, it’s a good day.”
Anderson moved up to the No. 7 position in the Pro Stock standings, and Line preserved his possession of the No. 4 spot. The Summit Racing duo will have another chance to move up in the series standings in just a few days, when the circuit makes its annual stop in Norwalk at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals, their title sponsors main event.
“The Summit Racing team is pretty excited to get back to Norwalk,” said Line. “It’s a race we look forward to all year. Every team goes through a little bit of a slump, but thankfully, it looks like we’re working our way out of this. It’s a gradual process, but hopefully, we’ll make Summit Racing proud next weekend. This race in Chicago was a good warm up, and we’re sure going to try to go a couple of steps further.”
Summit Racing–Anderson Wheels Summit Racing Camaro to the Final Round in Chicago
Anderson Wheels Summit Racing Camaro to the Final Round in Chicago
JOLIET, Ill. (June 30, 2013) – Summit Racing Pro Stock driver Greg Anderson returned to familiar form at Route 66 Raceway this weekend at the 12th race of 24 on the 2013 Mello Yello Drag Racing Series schedule. The four-time Pro Stock world champion and 74-time national event winner qualified his three-race-new Summit Racing Camaro in the No. 4 position and took out some serious competitors en route to his first final round of the season.
“I had a good day,” said Anderson, who competed in the 113th final round appearance of his career. “I certainly can’t argue that. It was a good day for the Summit Racing team, and hopefully we can build on it when we get to Norwalk next week for the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals.”
Anderson launched into raceday with a qualifying-best 6.569 at 209.30 that would count as his best start since Atlanta earlier this season. Scheduled for a first-round meeting with veteran competitor V. Gaines, Anderson arrived at the Chicago-area racetrack in full race-mode and wearing his game face. The Mooresville, N.C.-based driver had a cool .016-second reaction time to Gaines’ .055 and sealed the deal at the top end on a holeshot, recording a slower e.t. but crossing the finish line ahead of his opponent thanks to a very strong start. Anderson’s scoreboard flashed a winning 6.619 at 208.94 mph to a 6.602 with an identical 208.94.
The victory set the stage for a repeat of last year’s final at Route 66 Raceway, when Anderson forfeited the win to Erica Enders-Stevens. Again, Anderson was first off the starting line, and his .002-second advantage was the deciding factor in his 6.662 to 6.660 win. The margin of victory was an incredible .0008-second, and with No. 1 qualifier Mike Edwards waiting in the wings, Anderson took a breath and steadily continued the charge. He wheeled his Summit Racing Camaro off the starting line with a psychic .002-second reaction and parlayed the tremendous advantage into an astonishing third consecutive holeshot win. Edwards was .076 at the starting line and a quicker but losing 6.640 at the finish line stripe.
“You can’t let your guard down out here at any time,” said Anderson, who moved up one position to occupy the No. 7 spot in the Pro Stock standings. “Second and third round, running Erica and Mike and not having lane choice – those were big rounds. You have to have a lot of luck to win those rounds, and I got lucky. But those were big wins for me; I haven’t had many wins like that this year. I’m realistic and I know we have to keep digging, but I’ve got to be happy about those wins.”
The charge came to an end in the final round of eliminations, when Anderson’s starting line advantage wasn’t quite enough against challenger Jeg Coughlin. Anderson was out of the gate first with a respectable .027 light to Coughlin’s .036, but he soon fell into tire shake and had to give up the run. Coughlin turned on the win light, 6.603 to 11.680.
“I think we had a lot of luck today, and even though we had a decent day, the reality is that we still have a lot of work to do to get our Summit Racing Camaros living up to their potential,” said Anderson. “I ran very well during qualifying, and that definitely put a smile on all of our faces over here in the KB Racing camp. Today, though, I was a little disappointed. I was happy to get the win light three times today, but it didn’t quite happen the way we wanted it to. We just weren’t able to get near where we were yesterday – there was a little bit of extra heat and sun on the racetrack and that crossed us up again. We are working to make sure that doesn’t continue.”
The final round in Joliet was the third consecutive final for Anderson at the event. Notably, Anderson was challenged at Route 66 Raceway for most of his career, and it was the only venue on the NHRA tour where he had not won before he closed the deal in 2011.
“It was the one I couldn’t get for a long time,” said Anderson. “But it’s a great racetrack, one where you can consistently go out there and make good, quality runs. I’ve raced quite a lot of years at this place, and nowadays it’s a lot of fun to come out here.
“What happened here this weekend is a morale booster, nobody on this team is going to leave here dragging their lip. The bottom line is that we did this as a team, and that’s good. A lot of good happened today, and we have to build off of that. Right now, I’m glad we go to Norwalk next week. The more we’re on the track, the better we’ll be.”
Summit Racing–Line Encouraged by Early Numbers, Set for Strong Raceday in Joliet
Line Encouraged by Early Numbers, Set for Strong Raceday in Joliet
Event: 16th annual Route 66 NHRA Nationals
Location: Route 66 Raceway, Chicago, Illinois
Day/Date: Saturday, June 29, 2013
The final day of qualifying at the Route 66 NHRA Nationals at Chicago’s Route 66 Raceway was one of the best of the 2013 season of Mello Yello Drag Racing in terms of elapsed time and speed, with a remarkable series of 6.5-second blasts in the ultra-competitive Pro Stock category, including the 6.584 at 209.33 mph recorded by Summit Racing campaigner Jason Line, who will start sixth on raceday.
The first day of the event, the 12th of 24 on the 2013 schedule, allotted only a single qualifying session due to looming stormy weather. Line cleared the finish line with a 6.637 at 208.30 mph and ended the first day in the No. 6 spot, and in Saturday’s first session, the Mooresville, N.C.-based driver improved to a 6.611 at over 209 mph.
After the first session, the final round of qualifying was projected, accurately, to be the best. Line and the rest of the Pro Stock class watched as the air improved and the track temperature dropped dramatically, creating prime conditions for mind-blowing runs. Line was among those in the category to make their best run of the weekend so far in the later session.
“The conditions changed between the time we left the trailer and we got up there to the staging lanes,” said Line. “The session was fun, and it was good because you usually just kind of know who is going to go fast – it would be hard to bet against certain people right now – but there were a couple of surprises in there.
“Maybe it wasn’t the smartest thing to do, but in my particular case we used the run as a test. My car did not make a great run, it shook really hard [through] second gear, but we learned something – and it 60-footed phenomenal. I don’t know that I ever went faster than that [to the 60-foot timer].”
Although the final timer on the racetrack is the critical decider in terms of round wins, the 60-foot marker is a carefully watched increment in a category where victories are often recorded by mere thousandths of a second.
Line’s .965-second dash to the first timing block was the quickest of all the Pro Stock cars, and the Summit Racing team proved that they certainly have the first part of the smooth racing surface figured out better than most as Line’s KB Racing teammate Greg Anderson wasn’t far behind (.968).
“All in all, things ended up pretty good today,” said Line, who will race Mark Martino in the first round of eliminations for the first time this year. “We got the Summit Racing Camaros to run a little bit better, and I have a good starting spot for tomorrow. I’d say we’re all looking forward to tomorrow morning.”
Summit Racing–Anderson Rejuvenated and Ready for Raceday at Route 66 Raceway

Event: 16th annual Route 66 NHRA Nationals
Location: Route 66 Raceway, Chicago, Illinois
Day/Date: Saturday, June 29, 2013
Greg Anderson wasn’t satisfied when he left Route 66 Raceway near Chicago on Friday night, but the Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro pilot returned on the second day of the Route 66 NHRA Nationals and quickly made amends with his racecar. The powerful combination of seasoned driver and improving hot rod clocked one of the quickest runs of the day in the closing session of qualifying to launch all the way up to the No. 4 position.
The first day of qualifying was abbreviated by one session when storms in the area surrounding Route 66 Raceway became a threat, and Anderson was deeply disappointed to forfeit a round after a 6.636 at 208.17 mph. The four-time Pro Stock champion seemed to realize that the pass was really just a warm-up to what was ahead. Sitting fifth after day one, Anderson improved in the first session on Saturday to a 6.621 at 208.23 and prepared for the final round of qualifying with optimism. The conditions were predicted to be ideal for incredible numbers, and the session certainly lived up to expectations.
In his white Summit Racing Camaro, Anderson got a hold of the racetrack and jetted to a head-turning 6.569 at 209.30 that was fourth-quickest in the category.
“That run felt a lot better,” said an enthused Anderson. “The racetrack and air were significantly better, and the whole class picked up. We gained on the pack, and that’s good; it’s definitely a good feeling going into Sunday. We think we can learn from what happened today and apply that towards tomorrow, so we’re going to bed feeling a little happier tonight.
“We’ll see how much sunshine we get tomorrow, and how the racetrack holds up, but it’s great out there and the surface just seems to be getting better every run.”
Anderson’s start from the No. 4 position is his best qualifying performance since the race in Atlanta earlier this year, and with a new car performing well in only its third event, the Mooresville, N.C.-based driver is looking forward to Sunday.
“We went into that last session thinking, ‘here is our opportunity, we have to capitalize on it,’ and I think we did,” said Anderson, who will race V. Gaines in round one on raceday. “We’re making forward progress, and we’re happy. Tonight was fun – these are the kind of race conditions we enjoy, and I wish we could do that more often. Now tomorrow we’ll see if we can negotiate the racetrack, take what we learned, and apply it.”
Summit Racing–Anderson Plans More Aggressive Approach After Friday at Route 66 Raceway
Anderson Plans More Aggressive Approach After Friday at Route 66 Raceway
Event: 16th annual Route 66 NHRA Nationals
Location: Route 66 Raceway, Chicago, Illinois
Day/Date: Friday, June 28, 2013
The first day of qualifying at the highly anticipated Route 66 NHRA Nationals turned into an abbreviated affair when weather moved in around Route 66 Raceway near Chicago. In the single available run for the pro racers in NHRA’s Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, Greg Anderson piloted his white Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro to a 6.636 at 208.17 mph and secured a first-day finish as the provisional No. 5 qualifier.
“The track was great,” said Anderson, who has qualified in the top five four times this season and has been a top-half player at all but two races in 2013. “It was fantastic, and we have absolutely no complaints there. I think we probably underestimated how good it would be. We knew it would be decent, but the humidity shot right back up before our run, so we lost a little bit of air and a little bit of power. But this racetrack has always been very good, and when the clouds came out and we had a little rainstorm, all it did was clean off the racetrack and make it better.
“Now we know what we’re dealing with out there, and we have a great race surface and we can pretty much throw everything we’ve got at it. We’ll get more aggressive tomorrow with our Summit Racing Chevy Camaros, and we’re hoping we can run faster.”
Qualifying will continue on Saturday with two more passes before the fields are set for the 12th race of 24 on NHRA’s Mello Yello Series 2013 tour.

Line Laments Loss of Second Qualifying Pass, Eager for Day Two in Chicago
Event: 16th annual Route 66 NHRA Nationals
Location: Route 66 Raceway, Chicago, Illinois
Day/Date: Friday, June 28, 2013
Jason Line was eager to get the most out of the first day of qualifying at the Route 66 NHRA Nationals and get the initial two passes under his belt at favorable Route 66 Raceway near Chicago, but weather pressed in and cut qualifying short by one round. Line, driving the brilliant blue Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro, clocked a 6.637 at 208.30 mph to nearly match his KB Racing teammate Greg Anderson’s 6.636, 208.17. Line ends the first day in provisional possession of the No. 6 spot, while Anderson is 5th in the line-up.
“Greg and I both made good, safe runs, but those are pretty ho-hum numbers,” said Line. “We’ll work on it and try to find some more speed for tomorrow. The racetrack was good, very nice and very smooth, so it will be interesting to see how things go tomorrow for the Summit Racing team.
“I was really disappointed that we only had one run today. You’re supposed to get two, and that’s what the fans paid for, so it’s a disappointment for everyone – but the truth is that I just enjoy driving my Summit Racing Chevy Camaro as often as I can. It is what it is, and tomorrow we’ll just have to make the most of the two runs that we have left. Team Summit is a very capable group, so we’ll take those two runs tomorrow and try our best to be good and fast so we can move up before Sunday.”
Qualifying will continue on Saturday with two more passes before the fields are set for the 12th race of 24 on NHRA’s Mello Yello Series 2013 tour.
Summit Racing–Line Continues to Make Progress, Moves up in Series Standings after Epping
Line Continues to Make Progress, Moves up in Series Standings after Epping
EPPING, N.H. (June 23, 2013) – The Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro driven by Jason Line at the Inaugural NHRA New England Nationals at New England Dragway is picking up steam in the middle of a strenuous four in a row stretch. Line made a move up one position, from fifth to fourth, in the Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Pro Stock standings following a respectable qualifying performance and a round win earned on raceday.
During qualifying, Line made a series of good passes to earn a start from the No. 5 position and a first-round meeting with veteran driver Larry Morgan. Coming off of a very fast final qualifying pass (Line’s 211.86 mph was the quickest of the factory hot rods in the last act before the field was set for Sunday’s race), the Mooresville, N.C.-based driver was optimistic about his chances on raceday – however, he knew he would have his work cut out for him.
What he didn’t anticipate was that he and Morgan would light the pre-stage bulbs simultaneously.
“It caught both of us off guard,” admitted Line, who was uncharacteristically late with a .143-second reaction time as he left the starting line next to his also late opponent. “Neither one of us were exactly stellar, but the Summit Racing Camaro got us to the other end of the racetrack first and we were able to survive and move on to the next round.”
Line cleared the finish line with a 6.610 at 210.28 mph for the win light over Morgan’s 6.688, and the victory was a ticket to the second round and a meeting with Shane Gray, a driver Line had already gotten the best of in three elimination rounds this season – including the final round in Houston.
Line didn’t have lane choice for their meeting but was good and ready for their mid-day meeting. He launched ahead of Gray but soon got into trouble. His blue Summit Racing Chevy Camaro made a hard move to the right and he was forced to give up the run.
“We struggled pretty hard with the left lane, we weren’t able to negotiate it, and ultimately that’s what bit us today,” said Line. “We made some progress, but we still have room to go. Our biggest problem is that we’re not as good as we need to be on raceday – but this is a process, and we’ve got to keep after it.
“Overall, we certainly enjoyed our trip to New England. The fans are great, and hats off to the folks who run the racetrack. They certainly put a lot of effort into it. The facility is going to be extremely nice.”
Summit Racing–Anderson to Keep Chipping Away Following Epping Event
Anderson to Keep Chipping Away Following Epping Event
EPPING, N.H. (June 23, 2013) – Summit Racing Pro Stock driver Greg Anderson came to New England Dragway for the Inaugural NHRA New England Nationals with a hot rod that had only been in competition for one race, and he and the Summit Racing team qualified their still-new ride in the top half of the field and scored a round win on eliminations day. He leaves the event in Epping holding onto eighth in the Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Pro Stock points.
Anderson qualified in the No. 6 position and scored a set of coveted bonus points along the way. His first round match with Steve Kent marked the first time this season that the four-time Pro Stock champ and Kent were lined up next to one another on raceday. Anderson was off the finish line first and raced to a strong 6.609. His Summit Racing Camaro and that of teammate Jason Line were two of just four cars in the opening act to exceed 210 mph.
Anderson’s first pass of the day was also one of the four quickest of the round, and he moved ahead into the quarterfinals for a meeting with No. 3 qualifier Mike Edwards. Edwards had lane choice for their second-round meeting, and Anderson was at a decided disadvantage but launched confidently ahead of his challenger with a .023-second reaction to Edwards’ .032. Unfortunately, lane choice was an important factor this weekend, and Anderson’s Summit Racing Camaro simply could not get a grip on the surface.
“We just spun the tire from one end of the track to the other,” said Anderson, who recorded a 6.635 in a losing effort. “That left lane sure gave us trouble. It’s a bummer, but the bottom line is that you have to qualify well and you’ve got to have a fast car so that you can keep lane choice. The deck was stacked against us today, but it only serves to make us dig deeper.
“I like this place, and I wanted to win – bad. The whole event was fantastic, and the fans were great. If their enthusiasm doesn’t get you fired up, nothing will. I loved almost everything about this place, and to come away with the first New England Dragway trophy would really have been something. Unfortunately, we got whooped today. Rome wasn’t built in a day, as they say, and we just have to be smart about our decisions. We’ll keep chipping away at it.”
Summit Racing–Line Going After the Title at Inaugural New England Event
Line Going After the Title at Inaugural New England Event
Event: Inaugural NHRA New England Nationals
Location: New England Dragway, Epping, N.H.
Day/Date: Saturday, June 22, 2013
Jason Line has great expectations for his Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro on raceday at the very first New England Nationals at New England Dragway. The 30-time national event winner has claimed victories all along the Mello Yello Drag Racing Series trail, but he has yet to earn a title at an inaugural event. After an effective group of qualifying passes, the Mooresville, N.C., resident is situated in a good position to make his goal a reality.
Line clocked a 6.576 at 212.49 mph to jump right into the No. 4 position in the first session of qualifying. The Summit Racing team went back to the pit area, wrenched a little more, and returned to the starting line to lay down an improved 6.565, 212.36 to close out the first day of the inaugural event in the No. 5 position.
The second day of the New England Nationals brought about warmer track temperatures and conditions that increased the challenge for the crew chiefs, but Line managed a solid 6.608 at 211.59 in the earlier session, followed by a 6.643 at a whopping 211.86 mph that was fastest speed of the final round before Sunday.
“I think the biggest challenge has just been the starting line,” said Line. “Each track has its own personality, and that particular area is the challenge here. We definitely don’t feel like we have it completely figured out yet, but it’s the same for everybody. There is a lot of experience in the KB Racing camp and we know that we can come out on Sunday with a good package for our Summit Racing Camaros.”
Line was ultimately christened the No. 5 qualifier at the first of what is suspected will be many New England Nationals. He will be challenged by Larry Morgan in the first round of eliminations.
“This is a nice racetrack, and I’ve already enjoyed racing here this weekend,” said Line. “The people have been great, and it’s very refreshing to have these very enthusiastic fans cheering you on and waiting to greet you when you come back from a run. They’ve been starved for racing up here, so it makes it a lot of fun to get to come up here and put on a show.
“We definitely left some out there today, and we feel like we could have run faster – but all in all, it’s been a decent weekend so far on the racetrack for the blue Summit Racing Camaro. I think we’ll have a good car for raceday. Somebody is going to win the inaugural race here, and it would be very cool to be the driver who gets to do that.”

Day/Date: Saturday, June 22, 2013
Greg Anderson experienced a drastic swing of highs and lows on the second day of qualifying at the NHRA New England Nationals, but the seasoned driver took the day in stride and is eager to return to the starting line in his Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro for the first round of eliminations at the inaugural event.
Friday’s qualifying sessions amounted to a 6.621-second pass at 211.79 and a 6.591 at 211.63 that positioned the Mooresville, N.C.-based competitor as sixth in the line-up heading into day two. On Saturday, Anderson brought a very strong 6.580 at 211.56 mph to the table and was second quickest of the opening session. Enthused and eager to return to the driver’s seat for the last session to see what else Team Summit could extract from the brand new racing surface before the fields were set, Anderson had no way of knowing that his day was about to take a dramatic turn.
A freak occurrence during the quick turnaround between qualifying sessions on Saturday – a stripped spark plug hole – set the team off schedule, and Anderson was forced to sit out the fourth and final session of qualifying. The extremely rare situation left Anderson disappointed, but also grateful.
“We just ran out of time to get it fixed,” said Anderson. “You hate to miss a run like that, but it was just a freak deal, and you have to be thankful that it didn’t happen on raceday. We’ve got it fixed now, and this Summit Racing Camaro will be good for tomorrow.”
The high point for Anderson was the 6.58 in the third qualifying session, and running towards the top of the pack is a very comfortable and familiar position that has been just out of reach in recent times.
“That was very encouraging, and I think we can do even better,” said Anderson, who retained the No. 6 position and will meet up with Steve Kent in the first round of eliminations on Sunday. “We’re not going to try to get crazy, but we’re going to try to stay consistent. We’ll just chisel at it a little bit, and I think we’ll have a chance tomorrow.
“This is a neat racetrack, and so far I’m loving it here. The fans are great, they’re really into it, and that makes it a very exciting place to race. It’s a challenge, and we definitely like a challenge. I’m having fun with it, and hopefully what happened today was our bit of bad luck for the weekend. Tomorrow, we’re planning for a smooth raceday with a chance to win.”

Day/Date: Friday, June 21, 2013
Greg Anderson made his first pass down the brand new quarter-mile dragstrip in Epping, N.H., today and is working into finding his groove in just the second race with his new Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro. The inaugural NHRA New England Nationals at New England Dragway has been a greatly anticipated race on the 2013 Mello Yello Drag Racing Series schedule, and so far, Anderson and Team Summit are already seeing it live up to expectations – and possibly even exceed them.
In the first session, Anderson raced to a 6.621-second pass at 211.79 mph that moved him into the No. 6 position. The second session came around rather quickly but the team hustled to make adjustments and came back with a 6.591 at 211.63. Anderson’s improvement was a step in the right direction and kept him nestled sixth heading into day two at the event.
“We overestimated the racetrack the first run. We just thought it would be a little bit better than it was, but it wasn’t quite ready yet,” said Anderson. “Then it gained a ton the second round. It actually gained more than we gave it credit for, so we missed both times – but we’ve gotten better each run. This is a new track, and it kind of threw us a curve and we missed it, but now we think we know what it’s going to be tomorrow.
“We can already tell that this racetrack is going to be a good place to race. It’s going to be a good, fast racetrack, and the best part is that the fans are absolutely crazy here. They’re really, really into it, and they’re just starved for drag racing. We can see very clearly after this first day here at New England Dragway that this is going to be a fun weekend. I’m happy to be here, we’re having a ball, and we certainly expect to run good by the end of the weekend.”

Event: Inaugural NHRA New England Nationals
Location: New England Dragway, Epping, N.H.
Day/Date: Friday, June 21, 2013
Pro Stock pilot Jason Line is already enjoying the first weekend of summer wheeling the blue Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro at the Inaugural NHRA New England Nationals, and the Mooresville, N.C.-based driver is looking forward to another two blasts down a racetrack that is hosting NHRA national event-level competition for the first time.
The racing surface at New England Dragway was pleasingly receptive to the factory hot rods on the first day of the event, and in the highly anticipated opening session of the day, Line raced to a 6.576 at 212.49 mph to jump right into the No. 4 position. With his first lap ever in New England under his belt, Line and his Summit Racing team tuned on their racecar and came back with an improved 6.565, 212.36.
“The second run was actually much better,” said Line, who will launch into the second day of the race in the provisional No. 5 position in the qualifying order. “We’re already having a great time here, and I tell you, the people here are very nice. We love to see a big crowd, and there is sure one here at New England Dragway this weekend. Hopefully, we can continue to put on a good show for them. I’m pleasantly surprised by this facility and these fans, and I’m looking forward to coming back out to make a couple more runs before we race on Sunday.
“We made decent runs today and we’re certainly right on target with getting acclimated to this racetrack. There is room for improvement, but we go into Saturday feeling pretty good because we know we have a car we can race with. On top of that, this is a neat place, and we’ve got some great weather. What more can you ask for.”

Summit Racing–Anderson Embraces New England Nationals as New Opportunity
Anderson Embraces New England Nationals as New Opportunity
MOORESVILLE, N.C., June 19, 2013 – Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro pilot Greg Anderson has already enjoyed a long and successful career as an NHRA Pro Stock driver with one of the best win-records in the history of the sport. This weekend, at the Inaugural NHRA New England Nationals, Anderson will have the opportunity to complement his already stunning scorecard with a victory at the newest racetrack on the Mello Yello Series tour, New England Dragway.
The facility opened its doors in 1966 and is currently the only 1/4-mile dragstrip in New England, and this year it was sanctioned to host its first NHRA national event. Because of its sea-level elevation, the racetrack has the potential to host prime conditions for the factory hot rod class in which Anderson and his Summit Racing teammate, Jason Line, compete.
“We love sea level racetracks, there is no doubt about it,” said Anderson. “And because this is a new track and we’re all going there for the first time, it’s a level playing field. Nobody has home-court advantage or more laps there than anyone else. We’re all in the same boat, and hopefully that will work in our favor. The Summit Racing crew is a great team, and we’ve been doing this a long time. Hopefully, our experience will help us master whatever that track has to offer.”
Mooresville, N.C.-based Anderson is currently positioned as the eighth winningest driver in any class in the history of NHRA. The 74-time national event winner has claimed victory at each of the facilities on the tour (and two that are no longer in rotation), and would certainly appreciate keeping a shiny record.
“Every time they put a new race on the schedule, it’s a new challenge for me, and one that I look forward to,” said Anderson. “I’ve been very fortunate to win at every venue we have on the circuit, and it’s important to me to find a way to conquer this new one so that I can still say that I’ve won at every track we have. Team Summit always likes a challenge, that’s for sure, and we say, ‘May the best man win.’ “
Anderson debuted a brand new white Summit Racing Chevy Camaro at the event just last week in Bristol, Tenn., and enjoyed an outing that exceeded recent performances.
“This is obviously a good racecar, we just have to rub on it a little more and continue to learn and grow,” said Anderson. “We’re on track to have a couple of very happy hot rods.
“We look forward to this first race in New Hampshire, and hopefully, we’ll go there and run fast with our Summit Racing Chevy Camaros. We’ve heard a lot about this place, and they’re expecting big, big crowds. There are some real serious Pro Stock fans all up and down the East Coast, and there should be a great group there. It’s going to be interesting, and it’s going to be fun. To be honest, none of us can wait to get there.”
