Menard Finishes 32nd at Pocono Raceway After Involvement in Late-Race Incident

Paul Menard started the Go.Bowling.com 400 from the 21st position and finished 32nd after being caught up in a late-race accident on lap 110 at Pocono Raceway on Sunday afternoon. In the early laps of the 160-lap event, Menard relayed to the No. 27 Tarkett/Menards crew that his Chevrolet was loose on entry into turn three and exit of turn one. An early yellow flag on lap 16 provided Menard and crew the opportunity to play the pit strategy game when crew chief “Slugger” Labbe told his driver to stay out under caution. Menard restarted fourth and maintained a position inside the top-10 until having to pit for a scheduled green-flag stop on lap 33.The Eau Claire, Wis., native remained off sequence from the majority of the field for the next 60 laps. Though he was off sequence, Menard communicated to the crew that his car was handling well and the changes made on the previous stop had helped. A lap 96 caution allowed Menard to return to the same pit sequence as the rest of the 43-car field as he restarted 21st. The 32-year-old driver was running in 20th on lap 110 when he was caught up in an accident directly in front of him, which caused severe damage to the front end and left rear of the No. 27 machine. Unable to make the repairs on pit road, Menard took his Chevrolet to the garage. The crew never gave up and Menard returned to the track in the 33rd position with 17 laps remaining in the 160-lap event. By virtue of returning to green-flag action, Menard was able to gain one valuable position, ultimately finishing 32nd. Menard remains in the 19th spot in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver championship point standings heading into Watkins Glen International next weekend.

PAUL MENARD QUOTE:
“Our Tarkett/Menards Chevrolet was pretty good today. We just got caught up in someone else’s mess. We were off pit sequence from the majority of the field and got caught back in the pack. It’s unfortunate our day ended the way it did. I have to give my guys credit, they worked really hard to get the car fixed up and back on the track so we could gain some points. We’ll keep our heads up and hope for better results at Watkins Glen (International) next weekend.”

Harvick Finishes 17th at Pocono Raceway

Kevin Harvick and the No. 29 Budweiser Chevrolet team finished 17th in the GoBowling.com 400 at Pocono Raceway on Sunday afternoon after battling handling issues during the 160-lap affair. The California native started the 21st race of the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season from the 14th position and worked his way into the top 10 during the early laps when a loose-handling condition developed on the red and white Chevrolet forcing him back in the running order. The Budweiser crew made a variety of adjustments during multiple two and four-tire pits stops throughout the race, but the handling issues persisted leaving Harvick to run within the top 20 for the majority of the afternoon. Crew chief Gil Martin called his driver to pit road one final time, with 10 laps remaining, for right-side tires and fuel positioning Harvick 14th for the final restart on lap 158. The Richard Childress Racing driver was shuffled back in the field leaving him to finish 17th. Following the event at Pocono Raceway, Harvick remains fourth in the Sprint Cup Series driver championship point standings.

KEVIN HARVICK QUOTE:
“These fast, flat tracks have not been kind to us this season. It’s not fun for anyone on our team to run and finish in the top 20. Even though we didn’t get the finish we were looking for today, we’re not going to let it get us down. Next week is another race and a completely different style of track.”

Burton and the No. 31 FXI GutterClear 365 Team Has Race Cut Short by Wreck

Jeff Burton started 13th in Sunday’s 400-mile race at Pocono Raceway and quickly started to battle a loose condition upon entry into the corners while driving the No. 31 FXI GutterClear 365 Chevrolet. In the opening circuits of the 160-lap race, he fell to 18th when the second caution flag waved on lap 14. During the ensuing pit stop, crew chief Luke Lambert called for a track bar and spring rubber adjustment, in addition to changing four tires and topping off with fuel. From there, Burton motored his way to 10th during green-flag pit stops before pitting on lap 41 for four tires and fuel. After falling back to 18th, he would return to the top-10 before pitting under green on lap 72. On a lap 82 restart, tight racing forced another car to get into the back of No. 31 Chevrolet causing damage to the left-rear quarter panel. The crew had an opportunity to repair the damage under caution on laps 97 and 98. Restarting 24th, Burton moved forward in the running order when the fate of his race changed on lap 110. While exiting turn two, two cars got together in front of Burton collecting the Chevrolet SS along with Richard Childress Racing teammate, Paul Menard. Damage was severe enough that the blue and white machine was taken to the garage on a flatbed. It was quickly determined the car was beyond repair and the team was saddled with a 36th-place finish. Burton remains 20th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver championship point standings as the series heads to Watkins Glen International next weekend.

JEFF BURTON QUOTE:
“I didn’t see the cars wrecking in front of me until I got there. My spotter said to go low, but by the time I exited turn two it was too late. We got a little behind on track position there, but we were able to race our way back into the top-10 twice. I seriously feel like we had a seventh to 10th-place car today. Getting in that wreck is just kind of how our year has gone, it seems. We tried to fix it, but there was no way the guys were going to be able to get us back out there with 40 laps remaining.”

Brian Scott Finishes 13th at Iowa Speedway

Brian Scott drove Richard Childress Racing’s No. 2 Shore Lodge Chevrolet to a 13th-place finish in the US Cellular 250 presented by Enlist Weed Control Systems at Iowa Speedway. Scott qualified fifth for the 250-lap event and quickly moved into the third spot. He advanced into the second spot just before the evening’s first caution flag was displayed on lap 53. The Boise, Idaho native reported to crew chief Phil Gould that his Chevrolet Camaro’s handling was loose in and off the corners, prompting a visit to pit road for four tires, fuel and an air pressure adjustment. Green-flag racing resumed with Scott in the third position. As the field set in for a lengthy green-flag run, Scott continued to battle a loose handling car as the sun began to set and track temperatures cooled. The caution was displayed once again on lap 137 with Scott scored seventh. He brought his Shore Lodge Camaro to the attention of the crew for four tires, fuel and a chassis adjustment. The 25-year-old Nationwide Series competitor restarted eighth on lap 146. As Scott was battling for position in the late stages of the race, another competitor made contact with the No. 2 machine, sending both competitors backwards in the running order and ultimately contributing to a 13th-place finish for Scott.

Brian Scott Quote:
“We had a great qualifying run and were strong in the beginning part of the race and able to contend for the lead. As the track changed, we continued to fight a loose condition. It was a frustrating night, but we’ll regroup and move on to Watkins Glen.”

Austin Dillon Extends NASCAR Nationwide Series Points Lead with Fourth-Place Finish at Iowa Speedway

Austin Dillon extended his lead in the NASCAR Nationwide Series driver championship standings to 14 points over fellow contenders Regan Smith and Sam Hornish Jr with a fourth-place finish in Richard Childress Racing’s No. 3 AdvoCare Chevrolet at Iowa Speedway on Saturday evening. Dillon started the US Cellular 250 presented by Enlist Weed Control Systems from the eighth spot and quickly moved up in the running order, advancing to fourth before the first caution flag of the evening was displayed on lap 55. With complaints of a loose-handling condition on the AdvoCare Chevrolet, Dillon made a trip down pit road for four Goodyear tires, Sunoco Green E15 Fuel and a track bar adjustment before green flag racing resumed with Dillon in the fourth spot on lap 60. The Welcome, N.C. driver posted some of the quickest laps of the race during the next segment. He assumed the lead on lap 85 and remained the leader until pitting under caution with just 50 laps remaining. During the routine stop, the RCR team opted for four tires in an attempt to maintain the balance of the car, while several other contenders opted to perform a two-tire stop, positioning Dillon fifth for the lap-205 restart. The two-tire strategy proved efficient as the teams with two tires gained speed during the final 45 lap run while Dillon’s four-tire method was unable to equate to additional speed or track position. Dillon ultimately posted a fourth-place finish in the No. 3 AdvoCare Chevrolet.

AUSTIN DILLON QUOTE:
“We had a really fast AdvoCare Chevrolet tonight, right up until that last pit stop. We made the call for four tires, but ended up too tight at the end of the race. It’s frustrating, but we will keep digging and I know eventually a win will come in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. I’m so proud of this Danny Stockman-led team and all of their hard work. I’m also proud of my teammate and friend, Ryan Gifford, who made his first Nationwide start tonight and did a great job.”

Ryan Gifford Earns Top-10 Finish in NASCAR Nationwide Series Debut

Driving the No. 33 Rheem/Menards Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing, Ryan Gifford earned a top-10 finish in his career-first NASCAR Nationwide Series start by finishing ninth in the US Cellular 250 presented by Enlist Weed Control Systems at Iowa Speedway. The Winchester, Tenn., native started from the 23rd position and worked his way into the 18th spot by lap 51 reporting the car’s handling was tight on exit and free in, while running the same lap times as the leaders.  The caution flag was displayed on Lap 53 prompting crew chief Ernie Cope to call Gifford down pit road for four Goodyear Eagles and Sunoco Green E15 fuel.  The NASCAR Next driver restarted 17th on lap 59 and worked his way into the top 15 one lap later.  Gifford relayed to the crew the yellow and black machine was tight as he went one lap down to the leader.  While running 16th, the caution flag was displayed for the second time and Gifford was awarded the “Lucky Dog” award, allowing him to rejoin the lead lap cars. Battling in the 13th position, Gifford radioed to his crew the car was still tight as the caution flag was displayed with approximately 50 laps remaining in the race, prompting a round of pit stops by the field. The No. 33 team opted for a two-tire strategy positioning Gifford 12th for the restart on lap 205. He worked his way into the top 10 and ultimately earned a ninth-place finish in his Nationwide Series debut.

Ty Dillon Finishes 20th at Pocono Raceway

Ty Dillon and the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops team finished 20th after sustaining right-front damage in the late stages of the 54-lap affair at Pocono Raceway on Saturday. Rain showers forced NASCAR officials to cancel qualifying, setting the starting line up by practice speeds. Dillon started 11th in the Bass Pro Shop Chevrolet for the initial green flag. The Richard Childress Racing driver quickly reported a tight-handling condition on his Chevrolet to the Marcus Richmond-led team. The 21-year-old driver was called to pit road on lap 24 for right-side tires, fuel and a chassis adjustment under green flag conditions. The strategic pit sequence propelled the black and orange Chevrolet into the top five when other competitors pitted later in the race. During the lap-46 restart, Dillon fought for position in a four-wide battle and was forced up into the outside wall sustaining damage to the right side of his machine. With only three laps remaining in the race, Dillon was unable to improve his position and crossed the finish line 20th.

Brian Scott Earns Career-Best NASCAR Nationwide Series Finish at Indianapolis Motor Speedway

Brian Scott and Richard Childress Racing’s No. 2 Shore Lodge Chevrolet team took the checkered flag in the runner-up spot Saturday afternoon at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, securing their best finish of the 2013 season and Scott’s career-best finish in his 128th NASCAR Nationwide Series start. After starting the 250-mile event from the 11th spot, a lengthy green-flag run allowed Scott to climb to sixth before making his first pit stop of the day on lap 29. Just 21 laps later, the first caution flag was displayed and crew chief Phil Gould played pit strategy and called for Scott to stay out on the track. Green-flag racing resumed on lap 56 with Scott in the third position. Gould called Scott to pit road on lap 65 for four tires, fuel and adjustments. With 10 laps remaining, the caution flag again flew and Scott lined up fourth for a shootout to the finish. As the field dove into turn one, the leaders bunched together allowing the No. 2 to take the lead. Scott maintained the point position for three laps holding off a hard charging No. 54, but with three laps remaining Scott slipped to second. The Idaho native kept the reminder of the field at bay for the closing laps to finish second, scoring his career-best NASCAR Nationwide Series finish.

BRIAN SCOTT QUOTE:
“We were so close to kissing the bricks at Indy. Phil (Gould Crew Chief) and the guys brought a great car and called a smart race. I was hoping the No. 54 and No. 22 would battle each other allowing us to pull away. This will give us momentum heading into Iowa Speedway next weekend, where we can hopefully finish one spot better.”

Austin Dillon Assumes NASCAR Nationwide Series Points Lead with 12th-Place Finish at Indianapolis Motor Speedway

Austin Dillon left the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway as the NASCAR Nationwide Series points leader after posting a 12th-place finish at the “Yard of Bricks” in Richard Childress Racing’s No. 3 AdvoCare Chevrolet on Saturday afternoon. The Welcome, N.C. driver started the 100-lap event from the seventh spot and immediately noted handling issues to the Danny Stockman-led team, citing a tight condition exiting the corners and a lack of side force around the 2.5-mile track. Dillon was scored in the 13th position when the caution flag was displayed to the 40-car field as the race reached the halfway point, providing an opportunity for the RCR team to pit for four tires, fuel and adjustments. Dillon restarted 13th on lap 55 and was scored in the 10th spot when the caution flag was displayed on lap 83 as he continued to battle a tight-handling condition. With nothing to lose, Stockman guided his driver down pit road for another round of adjustments and outfitted the No. 3 Chevrolet with four Goodyear tires for the final 12 laps of the race. Dillon restarted in the 12th position, fell as far back as 16th in the final laps as the field was shuffled during late-race restarts and drove forward to post a 12th-place finish.

AUSTIN DILLON QUOTE:
“Indianapolis Motor Speedway is a very special place and it’s awesome to take the points lead here. We got behind a little bit early during the race. Our AdvoCare Chevrolet was just a little bit too tight. We made some adjustments to get the car running better. We decided to take four tires at the end of the race so we would have four fresh tires for the last few laps. We only lost two spots on pit road taking four tires, so I thought we were going to be pretty good, but we got hung out on the outside line. Then, a big wreck happened off of turn two and we lost four or five spots when that happened. We restarted on the outside again and pretty much the same thing happened. We were able to battle back and gain the points lead with our finish.”

Harvick and the No. 21 Hunt Brothers Pizza Team Finish Fifth at Indianapolis Motor Speedway

Kevin Harvick and the No. 21 Hunt Brothers Pizza team earned a fifth-place finish in the NASCAR Nationwide Series event at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The two-time series champion started the 100-lap race from the 15th position and worked his way into the top 10 by lap eight while fighting a loose-handling Chevrolet. Harvick visited pit road on lap 30 for four tires, fuel and chassis adjustments and settled into the sixth spot as green-flag pit stops cycled through the field. As the race progressed, the green and white machine transitioned from a loose to tight-handling condition as the California native continued to work his way toward the front of the field, moving into third on lap 89. Harvick lined up third for the final restart on lap 95, but was shuffled back to fifth where he ultimately crossed the finish line.

Start – 15         Finish – 5         Laps Led – 0         Points – N/A

KEVIN HARVICK QUOTE:
“This was a solid run by the Hunt Brother Pizza team today. I kind of put us in a hole at the beginning with qualifying, and we never really go into the right position to move out front until the final restart. We never had a chance to play offense today and had to play defense just to finish fifth.”

Menard Brings Home Top-10 Finish at Indianapolis Motor Speedway

In his third NASCAR Nationwide Series start of the season, Paul Menard maintained a top-10 running position for the majority of the 250-mile race finishing sixth at Indianapo
lis Motor Speedway on Saturday. Qualifying 10th earlier in the day, Menard slipped back several positions during the early laps as he battled with a tight-handling car on entry and a loose condition through the center and exit. Although his No. 33 Rheem/Menards Chevrolet wasn’t quite handling to his liking, Menard was able to work his way back inside the top 10 at lap 22. Crew chief Ernie Cope called for several chassis adjustments on the two ensuing pit stops to remedy the car’s handling condition. The adjustments provided relief to the Eau Claire, Wis., native and on lap 58, Menard relayed to the crew that the car was the best it had been all day. Running in eighth when the caution flag flew on lap 85, Menard brought the No. 27 machine onto pit road for fuel and tires, giving him four fresh Goodyear’s for the remaining 12 laps of the 100-lap event. Restarting in 10th, Menard never gave up and gained four positions in the final circuits to finish sixth at the historic 2.5-mile speedway.

Start – 10             Finish – 6                    Laps Led – 0            Owners Points – 13th

PAUL MENARD QUOTE:
“I love racing at Indy (Indianapolis Motor Speedway). It’s one of my favorite race tracks on the circuit. We had a pretty fast Rheem/Menards Chevrolet Camaro, but just ran out of laps at the end preventing us from gaining more positions. Ernie (Cope, crew chief) and the guys did a great job today and I had a lot of fun. Things got a little hairy there at the end on the restart, but we managed to gain some spots. I’ve still got another race with the No. 33 team in Kansas later in the year and hopefully we can improve on this weekend’s sixth-place finish and contend for a win.”

Ty Dillon Finishes 16th in the Inaugural NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Race at Eldora Speedway

Ty Dillon and the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops team were collected in a late-race incident costing them valuable track position and resulting in a 16th-place finish in the inaugural NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event at Eldora Speedway. After finishing fourth in his qualifying heat race, Dillon started the 150-lap event from the 15th position. The Richard Childress Racing driver reported neutral handling conditions to the Marcus Richmond-led team throughout the first 60-lap segment. Dillon was scored in the 10th position when the first caution flag was displayed signaling the end of the first leg of the event. Armed with four new dancing shoes and fuel, Dillon continued his trek to the front of the field. As Dillon was rounding the half-mile dirt oval on lap 116, he was collected by another competitor spinning in turn two, sending the black and orange Chevrolet into the wall. Sustaining minimal damage, Richmond called for Dillon to remain on the racing surface forcing the team to restart in the 19th position on the ensuing green flag. With less than 30 laps remaining in the event, Dillon was able to advance three positions, to 16th, before crossing the finish line.

“This was definitely an experience I’ll never forget. It was awesome being able to race the trucks on dirt. My two worlds collided tonight, and it was a lot of fun. I’m so glad NASCAR was able to put this show on for all the fans here at Eldora (Speedway). I wish we could have taken home the trophy tonight, but we were in the wrong place at the wrong time. The No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet team worked really hard to put together a fast truck. We were turning faster times than the leader before we got caught up in that wreck. I’m really happy for my brother Austin (Dillon) on earning the inaugural win. I’m glad we could experience this together.”

Austin Dillon Wins in No. 39 American Ethanol Chevrolet at Eldora Speedway

Making his first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start since earning the 2011 driving championship, Austin Dillon earned a memorable and historic race win in the No. 39 American Ethanol Chevrolet on Wednesday evening at Eldora Speedway. The eldest grandson of Richard Childress drove from the 19th starting spot to Victory Lane, winning the first NASCAR national series race on dirt since 1970. Dillon advanced to sixth by lap 31 on the initial start, posting some of the fastest lap times in the 30-truck field. He was scored in the fourth position by the time the caution flag waved on lap 54, signaling the end of the first of three pre-designated segments. During the segment break, the Danny Stockman-led crew pitted for four tires, fuel and a track bar adjustment. Restarting from the fourth position for the second segment, Dillon took the race lead on lap 89 just as the caution flag was displayed to the field for an incident. He led the field to the restart on lap 96 and remained the race leader through the remainder of the second and third segments, surviving a green-white-checkered restart that extended the race three laps past its advertised distance to secure the win.

AUSTIN DILLON QUOTE:
“It’s amazing, I love this dirt racing. It’s so much fun. This is real racing right here. We started 19th and had to come from a long way. My American Ethanol truck could turn a little earlier in the middle and had drive, so that’s where I could pass.”

Brendan Gaughan and the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Chevrolet picked up their sixth top-five finish of the 2013 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season in the Inaugural Mudsummer Classic at Eldora Speedway on Wednesday night. The Las Vegas native started the scheduled 150-lap event from the eighth position, after finishing second in his respective qualifying heat race earlier in the evening. The Richard Childress Racing driver returned to the track in the eighth position for the second 50-lap segment. As green-flag racing resumed, Gaughan continued to hold onto a spot within the top-10, breaking into the top five just prior to the conclusion of the second segment on lap 110. The pit crew serviced the black and gold machine during the second scheduled competition caution with four tires, fuel and a round a chassis adjustments to free up the handling for the final 40-lap segment. Gaughan lined up fifth for the start of the final segment, but was shuffled back to the 10th position on lap 126. The veteran driver patiently worked his way toward the front of the pack moving into the sixth spot when the final caution of the evening waved on lap 149. Gaughan lined up fifth for the green-white-checkered finish, where he remained until the conclusion of the event. BRENDAN GAUGHAN QUOTE:
“What mattered most about this event was that the fans h
ad fun tonight. I can only hope they had as much fun tonight in the stands as I had in the truck. Our South Point Hotel & Casino Chevrolet was fast all night, and I just want to make it known that I passed Dave Blaney at Eldora Speedway. Shane (Wilson, crew chief) did a great job and we had the privilege of having Chad Haney and Stevie Reeves working with us tonight, two guys who have a lot of dirt track experience. Chad and Stevie really did a great job helping our team stay ahead of the track all night, and I can’t thank this team enough for all of their hard work. This race was a lot of fun. I hope that we can do it again soon.”

Brian Scott Finishes 11th at Chicagoland Speedway

Brian Scott headed into the NASCAR Nationwide Series event at Chicagoland Speedway as one of four four competitors vying to take home a $100,000 bonus as part of the Nationwide Insurance Dash 4 Cash program. Scott and the No. 2 Fast Fixin’ team started from the ninth position, but fought a loose handling condition throughout the STP 300 and ultimately earned an 11th-place finish. Upon taking the green flag Scott battled inside the top-10 for the opening portion of the event. On lap 18 he reported that he was loose on exit of the corner. The caution flag was displayed on lap 48, prompting Scott to bring his Fast Fixin’ Camaro to the attention of his crew for four tires, a full tank of fuel and a chassis adjustment. After restarting seventh, the Boise, Idaho-native once again reported he was loose in traffic as he was scored in the 10th spot. As the race remained green, Scott made a green-flag pit stop on lap 102 for four tires, fuel and a chassis adjustment to fix the loose condition. Once all green-flag stops cycled through, Scott was scored eighth. The caution flag waved on lap 128 and Scott brought his No. 2 machine to the attention of his crew for another round if four tires, fuel and a chassis adjustment. Green-flag racing resumed on lap 133 with Scott in the 12th spot. The set of changes proved to help the handling of his machine as he climbed as high as seventh. As the laps wound down, Scott battled to stay inside the top-10. He was tapped from behind by a competitor in the closing laps, relegating him to an 11th-place finish.

Start – 9                       Finish – 11                   Laps Led – 0                   Points – 8th

BRIAN SCOTT QUOTE:
“We started off the weekend really well by leading the final practice. When it came race time we were so loose in traffic and had to battle back on restarts. In clean air we were able to track down the competition, but just couldn’t do anything in dirty air. We’ll look at everything and head to Indy. I can’t thank Fast Fixn’ enough for coming on board this weekend; it was great to have them at the track.”

Austin Dillon Earns Second-Consecutive NASCAR Nationwide Series Dash 4 Cash $100,000 Bonus with Third-Place Finish at Chicagoland Speedway

The Welcome, N.C. driver started Sunday’s race from the third position and never fell below eighth in the running order. He made his first pit stop of the event during a caution period on lap 48 for four tires, fuel and adjustments to improve a loose-handling condition. Dillon restarted from the fifth position when green-flag racing resumed on lap 53 and led laps 108 through 130 before pitting during a caution for tires, fuel and a track bar adjustment. He restarted from the fourth position on lap 133 and advanced to the third spot for the race’s finish to secure his second-consecutive third-place finish and the $100,000 Dash 4 Cash Bonus. AUSTIN DILLON QUOTE:
“Wow, another $100,000. Thanks to Nationwide Insurance for putting this program together, and first and foremost, thanks to the Lord above. We had a great AdvoCare Chevrolet today. We started off a little free. We made a big adjustment during the first pit stop and it turned out to really help us. The AdvoCare team did a good job today. It was about track position at the end there. I think the fans should have enjoyed it because it was four-wide racing at the end on that one restart.”

Dakoda Armstrong Brings Home Top-15 Finish at Chicagoland

Returning to the NASCAR Nationwide Series for this third appearance of the 2013 season with Richard Childress Racing, Dakoda Armstrong collected his second top-15 finish Sunday afternoon at Chicagoland Speedway. After qualifying 17th earlier in the day, the 22-year-old driver maintained a top-20 running position for the entire 200-lap event while battling handling issues on his No. 21 WinField Chevrolet Camaro. Armstrong visited pit road on lap 102 for a scheduled four-tire pit stop and chassis adjustment under green-flag conditions in an effort to alleviate handling issues the RCR driver was battling. Before green-flag pit stops cycled through the field, the caution flag was displayed, placing Armstrong one lap down to the leader and positioning him 16th for the ensuing restart. As green-flag racing resumed, the Indiana native continued to hold onto a position near the top 15 and was the recipient of the “Lucky Dog” award when the fifth caution of the day came out on lap 172. Armstrong remained in the top 20 during the final laps, crossing the finish 15th.

Start – 17          Finish – 15          Laps Led – 0          Points – N/A

DAKODA ARMSTRONG QUOTE:
“The biggest thing that helped us today was that this Richard Childress Racing crew never gave up. Every chan
ge they made to the WinField Camaro seemed to help. We had great speed at the end of the final two runs that really gave us a chance to fight at the end. I’m happy to get another top-15 Nationwide Series finish, and am looking for more good things to come from this team in our final two races of the year.”

Matt Crafton Scores Top-10 Finish in Second Career NASCAR Nationwide Series Start

In his second career NASCAR Nationwide Series start, Matt Crafton finished 10th in the STP 300 at Chicagoland Speedway on Sunday afternoon. Crafton started the event from the fourth position and remained in the top five until lap 28 when he reported the No. 33 Rheem/Menards car was loose on exit.   The caution flag was displayed on lap 49, prompting crew chief Ernie Cope to call Crafton to pit road for four Goodyear Eagle tires, Sunoco Green E15 fuel and an air pressure adjustment. The Tulare, Calif., native restarted the race on lap 53 from the sixth position. Shortly after pitting for routine service under green-flag conditions on lap 100, Crafton reported a bad vibration in the rear of the car, forcing the team to make an unscheduled stop on lap 112. The crew changed four tires and topped off with fuel as Crafton returned to the track on lap 114 in the 18th position, one lap down to the leader. Crafton raced his way into the “Lucky Dog” position and rejoined the lead lap cars when the caution flag was displayed on lap 130. Crafton restarted in the 15th position and quickly worked his way to the 12th position by lap 149. The caution flag was displayed again on lap 172 for an accident, and Crafton relayed to the team he was still too loose off. Receiving four tires and a splash of fuel on pit road, he returned to the track in the 12th spot. During the closing laps, Crafton battled his way to the 10th position, where he finished the race. The finish marked his second top-10 in his second career Nationwide Series start.

MATT CRAFTON QUOTE:
“We battled a loose car most of the race, but I’m proud of the way this team fought back to get a top-10 finish. I am grateful to Menards and the entire Richard Childress Racing organization for the opportunity to be behind the wheel in the Nationwide Series. We’ll take this top-10 and hope to improve on it in my next run at Kentucky Speedway.”

Brian Scott Qualifies for NASCAR Nationwide Series Dash 4 Cash with Top-Five Finish at New Hampshire Motor Speedway

Driving the No. 2 Shore Lodge Chevrolet Camaro, Brian Scott Earned his first top-five finish of the 2013 NASCAR Nationwide Series season by taking the checkered flag in the fourth position Saturday afternoon at New Hampshire Motor Speedway after starting in the fifth spot. By finishing fourth, Scott earned a spot to vie for a $100,000 bonus in Nationwide Insurance’s Dash4Cash at Chicagoland Speedway next Sunday afternoon. The Boise, Idaho-native took the green flag from the fifth spot and quickly charged forward in the opening segment of the 200-lap event. Scott moved up to the third position by lap five and stayed there until the afternoon’s first caution period on lap 35. Crew chief Phil Gould took the opportunity to bring the Shore Lodge Camaro driver down pit road for routine service and a chassis adjustment. Scott restarted in the fifth spot on lap 40. Over the next run, Scott reported that the changes made him too free as he fought to stay inside the top-10 during the longest green-flag run of the afternoon. As green-flag stops began to cycle through, Scott visited pit road on lap-112 for four tires, a full tank of fuel and additional chassis adjustments. As the laps ticked away, Scott was solidly inside the top 10. The caution flag was displayed with two laps remaining, setting the field for a green-white-checkered (GWC) finish. After failing to successfully complete the first two attempts at a GWC finish, the field lined up for the final restart with Scott in eighth spot. As the competition beat and banged through turn one, the Richard Childress Racing driver slipped by and charged inside the top five. Scott took the checkered flag in the fourth position, earning his career best finish at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Brian Scott Quote:
“We had a great Shore Lodge Camaro all weekend from practice to qualifying and in the race. On the final restart I knew I needed to be aggressive, and it showed by going from eighth to fourth in the first turn. The crew worked hard all weekend and we got a top-five out of it, earned a spot in the Dash4Cash. Now we head to Chicagoland Speedway, which is one of my best tracks.”

Third-Place Finish at New Hampshire Motor Speedway Earns Austin Dillon $100,000 Nationwide Insurance Dash 4 Cash Bonus

Austin Dillon drove Richard Childress Racing’s No. 3 AdvoCare Chevrolet to a third-place finish in the CNBC Prime the Profit 200 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Saturday afternoon and jumped from fifth to third in the NASCAR Nationwide Series Driver Point Standings, just 12 points shy of the lead. By besting the performances of fellow Nationwide Insurance Dash 4 Cash competitors Elliott Sadler, Sam Hornish, Jr. and Kyle Larson, Dillon earned a $100,000 bonus and qualified for the next Dash 4 Cash race at Chicagoland Speedway. The Welcome, N.C.-driver started the 200-lap race from the 11th position and fought for track position in the early stages of the event as he battled a loose handling condition on late exit to the corners of the one-mile oval. Dillon was scored in the eighth position when he pitted for four tires and fuel on lap 118. The caution flag was displayed just three laps later, prompting many teams to visit pit road. However, the Danny Stockman-led No. 3 AdvoCare team determined that they had enough fuel to make it to the end of the event and stayed out on the track, moving to fourth for the lap-127 restart. Dillon advanced to second on the restart before falling back to third. He survived three attempts at a green-white-checkered finish and a race that was extended 13 laps past its advertised distance, causing serious fuel mileage concerns for many teams, to earn a third-place finish and a $100,000 Nationwide Insurance Dash4Cash Bonus.

Start – 11          Finish – 3          Laps Led – 0          Points – 3

AUSTIN DILLON QUOTE:
“After our first pit stop we didn’t get the track position we wanted, but our No. 3 AdvoCare Chevrolet was good enough that I could gain quite a few positions. We had a four-tire, green-flag pit stop mid-way through the race and our car just came to life. We made the right adjustment in the middle of the race. We really had some fast times during the race but it’s so hard to pass. We had good runs and couldn’t do much with them. I’m really excited to win the Nationwide Insurance Dash 4 Cash. With all of those restarts and being so close on fuel, it was a very emotional, dramatic race at the end. The fuel mileage in these cars is a testament to NASCAR and their switch to American Ethanol, a cleaner renewable fuel that’s also high-performing. I want to thank the good Lord above for keeping fuel in the car for us!”

Menard Finishes 32nd after Late-Race Incident at New Hampshire Motor Speedway

Making his second NASCAR Nationwide Series start of the season, Paul Menard was on his way to a solid finish in the No. 33 Rheem/Menards Chevrolet when he was caught up in a multi-car incident in the closing laps of Saturday’s race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, relegating him to a 32nd – place finish. Starting 16th, Menard methodically moved through the field and was scored in 10th at lap 41. Maintaining a position in or around the top 10 for the majority of the scheduled 200-lap affair, Menard relayed to crew chief Ernie Cope that his No. 33 machine was tight though the center of the corners and loose off when he accelerated. Pitting on lap 110, Cope called for four fresh tires, fuel, wedge and air pressure adjustments in an attempt to remedy the handling condition. The chassis adjustments seemed to help and Menard had worked his way up to sixth at lap 120. The caution flag was displayed just three laps later and the Wisconsin native brought the No. 33 Camar
o down pit road to top off with fuel, giving him enough to make it to the end of the race without needing to pit again. Restarting in 12th, Menard gained several spots before a lack of good drive off eventually caused him to slip back to 14th on lap 141. As the laps wore on, the car again began to handle to Menard’s liking and he was back inside the top 10 for the second of three attempts at a green-white-checkered finish on lap 206. Shortly after the green flag flew, the 32-year-old driver was involved in a multi-car accident, causing the No. 33 machine to make contact with the outside wall. Heavy damage to the Rheem/Menards Chevrolet prevented Menard from finishing the race, relegating him to a 32nd-place finish.

Start – 16          Finish – 32          Laps Led – 0          Owner Points – 13

PAUL MENARD QUOTE:
“Ernie (Cope, Crew Chief) and the guys worked hard to get the car to handle to my liking and we were on our way to a solid finish. It’s just unfortunate we got caught up in a wreck so late in the race and our results didn’t show what the No. 33 Rheem/Menards Chevrolet was capable of doing.”

Ty Dillon Salvages 16th-Place Finish in Corn Country

After leading laps and racing within the top-10 for the majority of the event, Ty Dillon and the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet team suffered damage in the last three laps of the race at Iowa Speedway extinguishing the chances of a top-five finish. Dillon scored the third-fastest time in qualifying and immediately showed the speed of the Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet from the beginning of the 200-lap affair. The first caution of the night waved on lap 54 and Dillon was called to pit road by crew chief Marcus Richmond for four tires, fuel and a chassis adjustment to alleviate handling issues due to changing track conditions. A fast stop by the No. 3 team earned Dillon the top spot on the ensuing restart. Dillon paced the field for the next 58 circuits around the Newton, Iowa facility. After taking a little extra time on pit road under yellow flag conditions on lap 112 to pack the black and orange machine full of fuel, Dillon restarted second but quickly jumped back to the lead on lap 173. Dillon had put a three-truck length lead on the field when another caution slowed the drivers on lap 191. Dillon was shuffled back to third on the restart and began his trek back to the front when contact was made with another competitor with three laps remaining. The contact forced Dillon into the outside wall, resulting in damage to the right-side of the truck. The Richard Childress Racing driver nursed his battered machine back to the checkered flag in the 16th position.

Start – 3                 Finish – 16                   Laps Led – 65               Points – 4th

TY DILLON QUOTE:
“Despite the finish this week, this Bass Pro Shops team has a lot to be proud of. We had a really fast truck and could have contended for the win there at the end. The No. 51 just got into us and sent us up the track. Once I hit the marbles, I didn’t have anywhere to go besides into the wall. We’ve had great trucks the last few weeks and this is only the beginning. I can’t wait to get to Eldora Speedway and see what we can put together there.”

Brendan Gaughan Finishes 31st at Iowa Speedway

Brendan Gaughan and the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Chevrolet team suffered damage from an incident in the early stages of the 200-lap event at Iowa Speedway on Saturday night, relegating them to a 31st-place finish. Starting from the fourth spot, Gaughan maintained a position within the top 10 during the early laps. While rounding the 0.875-mile track on lap 60, he made contact with another competitor sending the black and gold machine into the outside wall. Crew chief Shane Wilson directed the Las Vegas native to pit road to assess the damage. The No. 62 pit crew went to work repairing the right-side of the Chevrolet. Gaughan returned to the racing surface four laps later, but quickly reported the steering was impacted during the incident. Gaughan took his South Point Hotel & Casino truck to the garage area for further repairs. The Richard Childress Racing driver returned to racing action on lap 105, 41 laps down to the leaders. With limited time to make up lost track position, Gaughan and the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino team settled for a 31st-place result.

Starting from the 26th position, Harvick dropped back in the field during the early laps of the 400-mile event to avoid the troubles synonymous with superspeedway racing. As the race progressed, the California native waited for the right opportunity to begin working his way toward the front of the field, which came at lap 101 when he drove up to the sixth position. Following a fuel-only pit stop on lap 127, Harvick returned to the track in the fourth position and held a spot near the front of the field, working his way up to as high as second. The Richard Childress Racing driver was shuffled around in the pack during the green-white-checkered finish, but maintained ground crossing the finish line third. Following his 10th top-10 finish of the season, Harvick remains fourth in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver championship point standings.

KEVIN HARVICK QUOTE:
“I thought we were in a good spot. The whole thing on the restarts is just getting your line to form.  Everybody on our Budweiser Chevrolet team did a great job. We were able to hold Jimmie (Johnson) door-to-door until the exit of turn two, but on both of those restarts the No. 14 and No. 15, and whoever was behind them. just couldn’t get our line formed up. All night it seemed like the top line would form pretty fast and those guys were able to get going a lot quicker than the inside line.”

Jeff Burton Locks in a 16th-place finish in Kwikset Chevrolet at Daytona

When the initial green flag waved for the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday night, Jeff Burton and the No. 31 Kwikset Chevrolet were lined up 17th. Right from the start, Burton and the Luke Lambert-led team elected to drop back through the field and maintain a position far enough away from the lead pack to avoid trouble, but close enough they could quickly get back and race with the leaders. For the early portion of the 161-lap race, Burton was running in the 30s with few handling issues. Through the first three caution periods, Lambert and Burton agreed to make pit stops for four tires, fuel, minor air pressure and chassis adjustments. During a caution on lap 130, Burton stayed out to lead a lap while others hit pit road as soon as it opened. Just as Burton was starting to make his move towards the front, the caution came out on lap 149 for a multi-car wreck on the frontstretch tri-oval. This brought out the red flag for eight minutes and 53 seconds, before the yellow was displayed to restart the race with Burton in 28th with 27 laps remaining. Burton dodged cars spinning in front of him with five laps remaining while he was up to 19th place. This set up a green-white-checkered finish and, as usual at a restrictor-plate race, mechanical mayhem ensued after the white flag was waved. Burton worked his way up to 16th and maintained his position until crossing under the checkered flag. Right after he took the checkers, he was caught up in a multi-car wreck damaging his Kwikset Chevrolet, but walked away unharmed. With his finish of 16th, Burton and team remain 21st in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver championship point standings.

JEFF BURTON QUOTE:
“This wasn’t the finish this Kwikset team deserved tonight. We played it safe there for most of the race and were just getting wound up to go to the front when that caution waved with five to go. That set up the green-white-checkered-finish and it just wasn’t enough time to get to where I know that car could have run.”

Brian Scott Earns a 17th-Place-Finish Under the Lights at Daytona

Brian Scott and the No. 2 Rain-X/Advance Auto Parts team traveled to Daytona International Speedway for a hot Friday night race under the lights. The Phil Gould-led team started the race from the fourth position and ultimately took the checkered flag in the 17th position. When the green-flag waved, Scott hooked on to the No. 60 car and the duo moved into the top two spots, with Scott eventually taking the lead on the third lap. With a desire to run a safe race in order to be in contention at the end, Scott dropped back in the field. The Boise, Idaho-native visited pit road under green-flag conditions for four tires and fuel on lap 36. As green-flag stops cycled through, Scott was scored in the 19th position. The caution flag was displayed on lap 70, giving the Rain-X/Advance Auto Parts driver an opportunity to visit pit road for two tires and a full tank of Sunoco Racing fuel. He restarted in the 17th spot and climbed as high as 11th. As the race progressed, the action on the track picked up. The caution came out once again on lap 89 as Scott just narrowly missed a multi-car wreck. NASCAR displayed the red flag in order to clean up the debris left behind. When the field went back to green he restarted in the 23rd position, but the caution quickly flew once again setting the field up for a green-white-checkered finish. Scott restarted from the 24th-position and took the checkered flag in the 17th spot.

Austin Dillon Earns Fifth-Place Finish in NASCAR Nationwide Series Race at Daytona International Speedway

Sporting a patriotic, red, white and blue AdvoCare Spark NASCAR America Salutes paint scheme, Austin Dillon earned his sixth pole award of the 2013 NASCAR Nationwide Series season and led laps in Richard Childress Racing’s No. 3 Chevrolet Camaro before posting a fifth-place finish under the lights at Daytona International Speedway. The Welcome, N.C., driver entered the race with one-in-four odds to win a $100,000 Nationwide Insurance Dash 4 Cash bonus by finishing ahead of fellow competitors Elliott Sadler, Kyle Larson and Brian Vickers during the scheduled 100-lap affair, and was a strong contender in the early running. He led the field to the American Ethanol green flag after earning his sixth pole award, in his last seven starts, earlier in the day and spent much of the beginning portion of the race in the front of the field before falling in the running order in an attempt to drive a conservative race. Dillon was scored in the 19th position when the caution flag was displayed with 30 laps remaining in the race. Crew chief Danny Stockman directed Dillon down pit road for a fuel-only pit stop and quick work by the AdvoCare crew gained the team several positions as Dillon restarted from the eighth position on lap 77. Just a few laps later, Dillon drafted his way into the second position before the field was frozen for a multi-car incident that occurred behind him, resulting in a 9:49 minute red flag to clean debris off the race track sending the race into a green-white-checker “overtime” finish. The sophomore Nationwide Series driver restarted from the second position and made a plan to tandem draft with Parker Kligerman. Shortly after the green-flag was displayed, their draft was broken up and Dillon dropped to 21st. With just one lap to regain track position, Dillon chose the middle line and raced his way to a fifth-place finish. Although Dillon missed the Nationwide Insurance Dash 4 Cash $100,000 bonus at Daytona by one finishing position, his fifth-place finish qualifies him for the program and a possible $100,000 bonus at New Hampshire Motor Speedway next week.

AUSTIN DILLON QUOTE:
“Man, that was fun. I had a great time racing tonight at Daytona International Speedway. We had a fast Spark Chevrolet. It was a great comeback on the last lap. I used the middle line and I was going for it all. I knew it was all or nothing. I wish we could have stuck with Parker Kligerman at the end there.”

Late-Race Incident Relegates Ty Dillon to 27th-Place Finish at Daytona

Ty Dillon and the No. 33 Hunt Brothers Pizza team were involved in an incident on the last lap relegating them to a 27th-place finish in the NASCAR Nationwide Series event at Daytona International Speedway. Earning the third-fastest time in qualifying on Friday afternoon, Dillon jumped into a two-car tandem in the early portion of the race.   After losing the draft to pit under green-flag conditions on lap 32, Dillon battled to regain his track position throughout the remainder of the event. The Welcome, N.C., native found a dancing partner in the late stages of the race and battled back inside the top 10. A late-race caution period set the field for a green-white-checkered finish. The Richard Childress Racing team was shuffled back in the running order and was tagged in the rear fender, sending the No. 33 machine through the infield grass. Dillon saved his Chevrolet from making contact with the wall, but ultimately posted a 27th-place finish.

Menard Finishes 30th at Kentucky Speedway After Early Involvement in Multi-Car Incident

Paul Menard started the Quaker State 400 at Kentucky Speedway from the 24th position after persistent rain showers postponed the originally scheduled Saturday night event until Sunday afternoon. In the early laps, Menard relayed to the crew that his SYLVANIA/Menards Chevrolet was loose on entry and tight through the middle of the corners. A competition-caution on lap 30 allowed Menard to come down pit road for fresh tires, fuel and spring rubber and wedge adjustments. The chassis adjustments seemed to help the handling of the No. 27 machine and Menard had worked his way up to 20th at lap 42. Just five laps later, the Eau Claire, Wis., native was involved in a multi-car incident, which ultimately brought out the red flag on lap 48. Menard sustained significant right-front fender and front bumper damage during the on-track melee and the crew went to work making repairs during multiple pit stops once the red flag was lifted. Restarting in the 36th position, four laps down to the leader, Menard struggled with a tight condition for the reminder of race. Though he had a battle-scarred race car, Menard and the crew never gave up. By virtue of not having to take the car to the garage, Menard was able to gain six positions in the remaining laps of the event to finish 30th, earning valuable points in his quest to make the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. Menard now sits 15th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver championship point standings heading into Daytona International Speedway next weekend.

PAUL MENARD QUOTE:
“It’s unfortunate we got caught up in a wreck early at Kentucky Speedway. We never really got a chance to see what our SYLVANIA/Menards Chevrolet had. I have to thank my guys though, they did a great job of getting the car patched up, which allowed me to stay on the racetrack and gain several positions over the course of the event. We’ve got to keep our heads up and hope our luck changes next weekend at Daytona International Speedway.”

After being rained out Saturday evening, the NASCAR Sprint Cup engines fired back to life on Sunday with Kevin Harvick and No. 29 Budweiser Chevrolet team rolling off the grid 22nd at Kentucky Speedway. NASCAR mandated a competition caution at lap 30 to allow teams to check tire wear and address handling issues because rain washed rubber off the track following Saturday’s heavy storms. Harvick started the first run by quickly picking off several spots, moving up to 17th place in just the first five laps.  With the competition yellow out on lap 30, crew chief Gil Martin dialed up a few quick adjustments to fix the tight handling No. 29 car and opted to only take two two tires for track position on the first stop of the day.  The strategy paid off with some ensuing caution laps pushing the team up to 11th place on lap 38.  On the next restart, Harvick was able to squeak by a big wreck that put the field under a red flag condition.  After making it to fifth by lap 60, the car began to develop a loose condition that would ultimately play a factor for the rest of the race.  The following green flag stop saw a slew of cars get caught by an ill-timed caution, which included Harvick and the Budweiser Chevrolet SS. The team rallied back to the lead lap with a few fortunate cautions going their way. Through laps 214 to 243, Harvick maintained a tough battle for a top-10 spot with the No. 5 and No. 24 cars, until the yellow came out again and put the spotlight back on Gil and the crew for one final strategy call to take the team to the end.  Right side tires and fuel with a small air pressure adjustment sorted the No. 29 Chevy back to ninth when the field took the green on lap 246.  When the dust settled, Harvick brought home a 10th place finish and maintained his fourth place slot in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship points Race to the Chase.

Start – 22nd                  Finish – 10th              Laps Led – 0            Points – 4th

KEVIN HARVICK QUOTE:  “We were loose in and fairly free through the corners for most of the day.  Kentucky Speedway is a great place to race, but gave us all we could handle on getting our Budweiser Chevrolet to grip the turns.

Jeff Burton Overcomes Adversity to Finish 19th at Kentucky Speedway

Jeff Burton and the No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet SS team lined up 15th for the 400-mile race at Kentucky Speedway on Saturday. After waiting an extra day because Mother Nature washed out racing action on Saturday evening, the 43-car field took the initial green flag on Sunday afternoon. From the start, Burton and the Luke Lambert-led team battled a tight-handling condition through the corners of the 1.5-mile oval, but still managed to race up to 11th in the first 30, of 267, laps. That was when a pre-determined competition caution was displayed because rain washed so much rubber off the track the prior two days. After pitting for tires, fuel and air pressure adjustments, NASCAR penalized Burton for exiting pit road too fast in sections seven and eight. Taking the green flag at the tail end of the field in 34th, Burton picked up six positions before the caution waved again on lap 39. This time, Lambert called Burton to pit road for tires and additional adjustments. Once again, Burton was penalized for being too fast exiting pit road. This time, it was for sections two, three and eight. At this point, driver and crew chief realized there was a problem with the car’s tachometer. For the remainder of the race, Burton used extreme caution upon entry and exit of pit road, which resulted in no more penalties. After another caution restart on lap 46, Burton was scored 35th. A multi-car wreck on lap 48 brought out the red flag. Electing not to pit allowed the team to restart 20th. From there, Burt
on raced his way up to fifth and then ran in and near the top-10 for the middle stages of the race. Towards the latter stages, Burton let Lambert know he was tight through the turns and lost some of the grip he had earlier in the race. More stops for adjustments didn’t work to the team’s desire and they ended up finishing 19th. Burton is now 21st in the
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver championship point standings as the team heads to Daytona International Speedway for next Saturday night’s scheduled race.

Start – 15th            Finish – 19th          Laps Led – 0        Points – 21

JEFF BURTON QUOTE: “This was not the finish this Caterpillar team deserved. We were good in the early part of the race, then got way too tight before the car went to loose. It was very frustrating. Those speeding penalties on pit road cost us some, but we ended up racing our back into the top-10 for a while. The last part of the race just didn’t go the way needed it to for this team. I hate it, but I know we’re going to be good when we get to Daytona (International Speedway) next weekend.”

Brian Scott Battles Handling Condition to Finish 17th at Kentucky Speedway

Brian Scott and the No. 2 Shore Lodge Chevrolet team qualified 15th for Friday night’s NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Kentucky Speedway. Once the initial green flag waved over the 1.5-mile track, it quickly became apparent Scott and the Phil Gould-led team were going to have a long scheduled 200-lap race. For the early going, the car was loose through all the turns. After a pit stop on lap 50 under green, Scott told Gould to “throw the kitchen sink at this thing” to help the handling. One lap later, the caution came out and the Shore Lodge Camaro team was trapped one circuit down to the leaders. Through three other cautions and pit stops, the team kept making adjustments and the car started to respond to the loose condition. However, the front end was now tight exiting the corners, preventing Scott from getting back to the gas as aggressively as desired. By lap 133, he was one of only four drivers on their lap and used cautions to pit for additional chassis adjustments. The final yellow flag waved on lap 164 for rain, which turned into a red flag on lap 170. After trying to wait it out, Mother Nature prevailed and the race was called with the team being credited with a 17th-place finish.

   Start – 15th           Finish – 17th        Laps Led – 0          Points – 9th

Brian Scott Quote:
“This was not our night here at Kentucky Speedway. We were loose, then we got that squared away and went to tight. Phil (Gould, crew chief) and the Shore Lodge guys did all they could to make our Chevrolet better. We’ll take what we ended up with here and head to the next race in Daytona.”

Austin Dillon Drives No. 3 AdvoCare Chevrolet to Sixth-Place Finish in Rain-Shortened NASCAR Nationwide Series Event at Kentucky Speedway

Driving Richard Childress Racing’s No. 3 AdvoCare Chevrolet, Austin Dillon earned his fifth pole award in the last six NASCAR Nationwide Series races and led 18 laps in the Feed the Children 300 before placing sixth in Friday evening’s rain-shortened event. The Welcome, N.C., driver started from the point position and drove to a commanding lead in the early laps of the race before succumbing to a loose-handling condition on his Chevrolet Camaro, causing him to fall to the fourth position. Crew Chief Danny Stockman directed Dillon down pit road for four Goodyear tires, Sunoco Green E15 Fuel and a round of chassis adjustments to combat the handling issues the driver was facing. The caution flag was displayed on lap 53, as Dillon exited pit road, and the team opted to take the “wave around” to remain on the lead lap. Restarting from the 11th spot on lap 59, Dillon immediately increased his position on the racetrack making it up to seventh before the next round of green-flag pit stops on lap 112. Dillon raced his way up to second and was scored in the sixth position when NASCAR officials slowed the field on lap 164 for rain showers, later stopping the field on pit road and shortening the event 40 laps shy of its advertised distance as the rain increased. Dillon was credited with a sixth-place finish and qualifies for the Nationwide Insurance Dash 4 Cash program, and a possible $100,000 bonus, at Daytona International Speedway next week.

Start – 1                  Finish – 6                 Laps Led – 18                   Points – 4th

AUSTIN DILLON QUOTE:
“I think if we could have gotten into clean air, we could have picked up a few additional spots at the end of the race but, overall, it was a great day for our AdvoCare Chevrolet team. It was a really good points day. Who can complain about leaving Kentucky Speedway knowing we are qualified for the Nationwide Insurance Dash 4 Cash bonus at Daytona International Speedway next weekend. That’s pretty cool to have a chance to win a $100,000 bonus. It’s a really great program that Nationwide Insurance has put together.”

Matt Crafton Finishes Third at Kentucky Speedway in NASCAR Nationwide Series Debut

Making his NASCAR Nationwide Series debut, Matt Crafton finished third in the rain-shortened event at Kentucky Speedway on Friday night. Starting eighth, Crafton had one of the fastest cars on the track and quickly drove his No. 33 Rheem/Menards machine to fifth on lap one. Crafton remained inside the top five until lap 54, where he took the lead as the caution was displayed for the first time during the scheduled 200-lap event. Restarting in second on lap 59, Crafton began to battle a tight condition in the middle of the corners and slipped back to third at the halfway mark. On lap 113, Crafton was making a scheduled green-flag pit stop when the No. 33 machine ran out of fuel coming to pit road. A lengthy pit stop to refuel and re-fire the engine caused Crafton to be scored 12th after the rest of the field had cycled through pit stops. On a mission to make his way back toward the front of the field, Crafton was seventh when he pitted for the final time on lap 142 for fuel only. Restarting first with 55 laps remaining, Crafton fought a loose condition on entry and a tight-handling car on exit, causing him to slip back to third at lap 148. Shortly after, the California native relayed to the crew that the car’s handling was improving as was clicking off lap times comparative to the leader. Just as he began to make up ground, the caution flag flew on lap 164 for rain showers. Ultimately, the scheduled 300-mile race was called on lap 170 for persistent rain and Crafton was credited with a third-place finish.

Ty Dillon Claws his Way to Victory Lane in Kentucky

After battling a loose-handling Chevrolet in qualifying, Ty Dillon and the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops earned their second-career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series victory; doing so at Kentucky Speedway. Starting from the 22nd spot, Dillon began his quest to the front right from the initial green flag. Crew chief Marcus Richmond called for a two-tire pit stop on lap 25, which propelled the Richard Childress Racing driver into the top 10. He battled a temperamental black and orange machine in the late stages of the race, but one last trip to pit road proved to be the ticket on lap 111. The Bass Pro Shops team serviced Dillon with right-side tires, fuel and a chassis adjustment. He restarted sixth and drove through the field taking the top spot on lap 124. Not looking back, Dillon held off all competitors and drove his No. 3 Chevrolet to victory lane for his second career NASCAR win.

TY DILLON QUOTE:
“Man, what a night. I can’t thank my guys enough for everything they do for this team. Marcus (Richmond, crew chief) made some awesome calls that put us right where we needed to be to win this race. We started off with a not-so-great qualifying effort, but the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet became a rocket there at the end. The last five laps were the longest ones of my life. I’m so happy to be here in Victory Lane, have this opportunity to race for my grandfather and put on a great show for all the fans. I’m truly blessed.”

MARCUS RICHMOND QUOTE:
“This win is for everyone at RCR. We wouldn’t have been able to do this without the support from all the departments back at the shop. ECR engines are great. We had a really fast truck there at the end. Ty started off too loose and I knew if I could get the truck to the tight side, he could wheel it. And, he did. I’m so proud of this Bass Pro Shops team, they work hard and deserved this win.”

Brendan Gaughan Beaten by Mechanical Problem at Kentucky

Brendan Gaughan and the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Chevrolet started the UNOH 225 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Kentucky Speedway on a high note Thursday night. They qualified their Silverado fourth on the grid with high hopes for an even better finish. Once the initial green flag waved, Gaughan settled into the sixth position and ran there for the early going through lap 25. However, on that circuit around the 1.5-mile speedway, he radioed to crew chief Shane Wilson he had smoke in the cockpit and the oil pressure had dropped. The engine was still running, so Gaughan took his truck to the garage area. The crew quickly assessed the problem and discovered a faulty oil pump was the reason they were on jack stands while everyone else was racing. It was an all-hands effort to make repairs and get back out. They accomplished that on lap 59 returning to action in 32nd place, 34 laps down to the leaders. Through attrition and commitment, Gaughan and the South Point Hotel & Casino team were able to pick up five positions to finish in 27th place, while running top-10 and top-five lap times.

BRENDAN GAUGHAN QUOTE:
“That was not the finish this South Point Chevrolet team was looking for or deserved. We had a great qualifying effort and Shane (Wilson, crew chief) made some big changes before we went out there. We were good in the race and just finding our rhythm and stride when we ended up in the garage. But, like I knew we could, we were able to fix it to get back out and earn some points.”

Richard Childress Racing to Participate in England’s Goodwood Festival of Speed

Richard Childress Racing to Participate in England’s
Goodwood Festival of Speed

WELCOME, N.C. (June 26, 2013) Richard Childress Racing (RCR) will have a presence in England’s Goodwood Festival of Speed for the fourth year by providing a pair of stock cars to be driven in this year’s annual Hillclimb. Kerry Earnhardt will pilot the 2000 No. 3 GM Goodwrench Monte Carlo and Daytona International Speedway President Joie Chitwood III will drive the 2013 No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet Camaro in July’s historic event.

The Goodwood Festival of Speed, July 11-14, is one of the world’s premier historic auto racing events. The festival has been held annually since 1993 on the grounds of Goodwood House, West Sussex, England. Race cars from the past and present participate in both demonstration and competition runs up the nine-turn, 1.16-mile Hillclimb circuit.

The No. 3 GM Goodwrench Chevrolet Monte Carlo the legendary Dale Earnhardt drove to victory in March 2000 at Atlanta Motor Speedway, and tallied 10 top-five finishes that year, will be driven by his eldest son, Kerry Earnhardt.

“I had the honor of attending the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2010 for RCR and drove the car that my dad won the 1995 Brickyard 400 with,” Earnhardt said. “The fans ‘over the pond’ are so enthusiastic about NASCAR and to have the opportunity to attend such a prestigious event not once, but twice, is awesome.

“This time I will be driving RCR’s 2000 No. 3 GM Goodwrench Monte Carlo that my dad won the spring Atlanta race in. Words can’t express what I feel when I sit in dad’s car, and I can’t thank Richard (Childress) enough for asking me to participate again.”

Joie Chitwood III will be behind the wheel of the 2013 No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Camaro in this year’s Festival of Speed. This Chevrolet is driven in regular NASCAR Nationwide Series competition by Childress’ grandson Austin Dillon, the 2012 Nationwide Series Rookie of the Year and 2011 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Champion.

“My dad, Joie Chitwood Jr., had the distinction of racing against Richard Childress back in the 1960s, so it’s great to come full circle and drive one of his cars at Goodwood,” Chitwood said. “It’s a privilege to be behind the wheel of the No. 3 Chevrolet Camaro and part of this diverse celebration of motorsports.”

Both cars participating in Goodwood festivities were prepared by and will be cared for at the Festival of Speed by Danny Lawrence, former No. 3 team crew member. Lawrence is an award-winning engine builder and longtime member of the RCR management team.

Menard Earns 14th-Place Finish at Sonoma Raceway

Paul Menard started the No. 27 Moen/Menards Chevrolet from the 16th position and battled handling issues throughout the 110-lap event at Sonoma Raceway, earning a 14th – place finish on Sunday. In the early laps of the event, Menard slipped back to the 20th position and relayed to the crew that the No. 27 machine was lacking rear grip. The “Slugger” Labbe-led pit crew made air pressure and track bar adjustments during the initial stop of the race on lap 25 in an attempt to increase rear grip. Just seven laps later, Menard pitted again under caution, this time for gas only setting the team up for a possible fuel strategy advantage later in the race. Restarting in 25th on lap 33, The Eau Claire, Wis., native methodically made his way toward the front of the field and was scored in 17th at lap 61. Unfortunately, the caution flags did not fall in favor of the team and Menard was off pit sequence from the majority of the front runners. The Richard Childress Racing driver ran as high as seventh before having to pit one final time for fuel on lap 83. With the leaders able to stay out, Menard restarted 22nd on lap 85. With the handling problems improving on the No. 27 Chevrolet, Menard was able to gain eight positions in the remaining 25 laps to cross the line 14th, his best finishing effort to date at the Sonoma, Calif., track. Menard now sits in the 12th spot in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver championship point standings heading into Kentucky Speedway next weekend.

Start – 16          Finish – 14          Laps Led – 0          Points – 12th

PAUL MENARD QUOTE:
“We struggled with handling issues early in the race with our Moen/Menards Chevrolet. The team worked hard and we were able to make some gains throughout the race with adjustments. The cautions didn’t fall in our favor and we got caught off pit sequence from the leader. All in all, we’ll take a top-15 finish at Sonoma Raceway and call it a decent day.”

Harvick and the No. 29 Rheem Team Utilize Pit Strategy to Finish 10th
at Sonoma Raceway

Kevin Harvick and the No. 29 Rheem team picked up their sixth-consecutive top-10 finish Sunday afternoon after utilizing pit strategy to collect a 10th-place result at Sonoma Raceway. The California native started the 110-lap event from the 12th position and worked his way into the top 10 by lap 31 when he brought the red and black machine down pit road for fuel, four tires and a chassis adjustment. Varying pit strategy by other teams forced Harvick to restart from the 34th position on the ensuing restart. As the race progressed, the Richard Childress Racing veteran worked his way back into the top 10 on lap 61, but once again fell victim to varying pit strategies on lap 63 when the team visited pit road for fresh tires and fuel, placing Harvick 19th when the field resumed green-flag racing. During the restart, the Rheem Chevrolet was shuffled back to the 22nd spot, but moved up to 11th on lap 83 when the team opted not to pit when several teams hit pit road. During the final laps, Harvick worked his way up to as high as sixth, before ultimately crossing the finish line 10th. Following his eighth top-10 finish of the season, Harvick remains fourth in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver championship point standings.

Start – 12          Finish – 10          Laps Led – 0           Points – 4th

KEVIN HARVICK QUOTE:
“This wasn’t the finish we were looking for today, but the Rheem team did a great job getting us into the position we needed to be at the end to collect a solid finish.”

Late-Race Incident Thwarts Burton’s Top-10 Effort at Sonoma Raceway

Jeff Burton and the No. 31 Utility Trailers Chevrolet team finished 31st at Sonoma Raceway on Sunday afternoon following a late-race incident with another competitor that spoiled a top-10 effort from the Richard Childress Racing team. Starting the 110-lap affair from the 27th position, the South Boston, Va., native wrestled with a loose-handling condition early before joining the top 15 after the first pit stop of the afternoon. As the race progressed and track conditions changed, the 45-year-old driver reported to crew chief Luke Lambert that the red, white and blue machine tightened up, especially on the sharper corners of the 11-turn road course. The No. 31 team maintained a top-15 running position for a majority of the event and, after playing a pre-determined pit strategy to success, Burton restarted in the seventh-position with 25 laps to go setting the stage for the RCR driver to bring home another top-10 finish. However, disaster struck with less than 20 laps to go when contact from another competitor in the treacherous turn 11 sent the No. 31 Chevrolet SS spinning. Burton’s car suffered minimal damage in the incident, but many drivers passed Burton while he was stalled out in the middle of turn and the 21-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series winner fell back to the 36th position. After coming down pit road for fresh Goodyear tires with 14 laps to go, Burton managed to pass five competitors before the checkered flag waved and finished the race in 31st-place. Burton now sits 20th in the Sprint Cup Series driver championship point standings.

Start – 27          Finish – 31          Laps Led – 0          Points – 20th

JEFF BURTON QUOTE:
“I’m just really bummed out about what happened this afternoon. We had a top-10 finish going and it was taken away from us. What made it worse was
that we fought back from mechanical issues in practice on Friday and a poor qualifying effort on Saturday. I’m proud of this team’s effort and the progress we are making.”

Brian Scott Earns a 20th-Place Finish in Action-Packed Race at Road America

Brian Scott and the No. 2 Charter Chevrolet team were in Elkhart Lake, Wis. for the first road course race of the 2013 NASCAR Nationwide Series season at Road American where they were in contention for a top-10 finish, until a late-race incident relegated them to a 20th-place finish. The Boise, Idaho-native qualified his No. 2 Chevrolet Camaro in the 18th spot for the Saturday afternoon event. In the early going of the race, he navigated his way towards the front climbing as high as 11th. During that time, Scott radioed to crew chief Phil Gould he was looking for a little bit more rear grip and was “snappy” loose off the corners. Scott made his first pit stop on lap 14 for four Goodyear tires, Sunoco Green E15 fuel and a chassis adjustment to correct a loose-handling condition. Just as Scott exited the pits, the caution flag was displayed keeping him on the lead lap. Scott took the green from the 11th position and battled the competition as the race progressed. The caution flag was displayed once again on lap 31, allowing the Charter team to make additional adjustments in the pits. He restarted 16th and moved forward as the competition became tense as the race neared its end. A series of late-race caution periods set the field up for two attempts at a green-white-checkered finish, during which time multiple cars were ran off course as drivers went all out for the win. Scott restarted in the 11th spot during the first attempt, but suffered rear corner panel damage to his Camaro and had to make a trip down pit road so his RCR crew could move sheet metal away from the rear tire. He lined up 28th for the final restart and ultimately earned a 20th-place finish.

Start – 18          Finish – 20       Laps Led – 0             Points – 8th

BRIAN SCOTT QUOTE:
“It was a tough day. We didn’t have the track position we needed to start the race, but continued to work on our Charter Chevrolet on pit road. We were in a good spot towards the end as the field continued to wreck, but unfortunately suffered some damage from an incident forcing us to pit. We’ll move on to Kentucky and look to get back in the groove.”

Austin Dillon Earns Top-10 Finish at Road America

Austin Dillon survived two attempts at late-race restarts in an action-packed NASCAR Nationwide Series road course event at Road America on Saturday afternoon to collect a 10th-place finish in the No. 3 AdvoCare Chevrolet. Dillon started the 50-lap race from the 14th position and immediately showed speed in the black No. 3 Chevrolet, driving to the 10th position before pitting under green-flag conditions for his first round of adjustments, fuel and tires on lap 12. Unfortunately, Dillon was issued a violation for exiting pit road too quickly and had to restart at the tail end of the longest line when the caution flag was displayed just one lap later. Although he fell to 32nd in the running order, Dillon worked his way into the 11th position for a restart with just 11 laps remaining, but was punted from behind and spun one lap later, relegating him to 25th place. When the caution flag was displayed on lap 44, Dillon was directed down pit road by crew chief Danny Stockman for four Goodyear tires and Sunoco Green E15 fuel. He restarted from the 22nd position on lap 47 and survived two separate attempts at a green-white-checker restart to post a 10th-place finish in the No. 3 AdvoCare Chevrolet.

AUSTIN DILLON QUOTE:
“I’m really proud of how hard we worked as a team to get this top-10 finish on a road course. We definitely had a never-give-up attitude today, driving up from the back of the field twice during the race.”

Brendan Gaughan Earns 11th-Place Finish at Road America

Brendan Gaughan and the No. 21 South Point Hotel & Casino Chevrolet team finished 11th at Road America, despite being involved in a late race incident on Saturday afternoon. The Richard Childress Racing team started the scheduled 50-lap affair from the 26th position. Gaughan utilized restarts to gain valuable track position, advancing the South Point Hotel & Casino Chevrolet into the top-20 early in the event. After reporting a loose-handling condition in the right-hand turns to the No. 21 team, crew chief Shane Wilson called Gaughan to pit road under caution for four tires, fuel and a round of chassis adjustments to combat the handling issues. Gaughan continued his climb into the top-15 and was scored in the 11th position on lap 33. While running 11th, Gaughan was tagged from behind sending his black and gold machine spinning around in turn 12. He was able to keep the No. 21 Chevrolet from making contact with the wall and didn’t sustain any damage. Following that incident, Gaughan was forced to restart 27th with 14 laps remaining at the 14-turn road course. Multiple full-course cautions were displayed in the closing laps of the event forcing the NASCAR Nationwide Series drivers to two green-white-checkered attempts. Gaughan used the multiple restarts to advance through the field to the 11th position, where he crossed the finish line.

BRENDAN GAUGHAN QUOTE:
“I’m really proud of the No. 21 South Point Hotel & Casino Chevrolet team. The guys did a great job on pit road all day and gave me a really great race car. I love road course racing, especially here at Road America. It’s a great facility and the track is a lot of fun to race. We got caught up in an unfor
tunate incident in turn 12, but were able to use the restarts to gain track position and bring home a top-15 finish.”

Max Papis Battles Adversity to Come Home 17th

High expectations were set for Max Papis and the No. 33 Menards/Rheem team as they rolled into the season’s first road course race at Road America. Despite rain threatening both days of the event, Papis kept the No. 33 Menards/Rheem Chevrolet Camaro in the top-10 during final practice and backed that momentum up with a 10th-place starting spot on Saturday morning. The road racing ace went through the first run of the day to lap 16 battling a loose condition that hindered Papis to get back to the throttle as quickly as some of the top runners. The first caution allowed the over-the-wall crew to promptly deliver a much needed boost to the team by posting a fast, four-tire stop and track bar adjustment for some additional motivation behind the wheel. Restarting sixth, Papis maintained a top-10 running position and ran as high as fourth through some consistent laps and smooth pedal work. After taking what was planned to be the final stop on lap 32 under caution, Papis was the recipient of an ill-timed bump going into turn five on the first green lap of the restart. Making the best out of a bad situation, Papis and the team decided to come down pit road to investigate the damage under caution on lap 41. His return to the bunched up field was nothing short of spectacular as he passed 17 cars (three wide, outside and inside) in just under one full lap, until another quick caution reverted him back to 18th through a scoring loop technicality. On the ensuing restart at lap 46, another errant corner from a competitor put Papis back to 32nd and forced another pit stop under the following caution. It took two green-white-checkered restarts, but Papis and team chipped their way to a 17th-place finish at the end of the race.

Start – 10                Finish – 17             Laps Led – 0               Points – N/A

MAX PAPIS QUOTE:
“We were having a great race in the No. 33 Menards/Rheem Chevrolet Camaro. I’m just disappointed because the 16 car just ran me off the track. We had a top-fiive car for sure, just didn’t get the respect that I think this team deserves.”

Menard Earns 14th-Place Finish at Michigan International Speedway

After his best qualifying effort of the season, Paul Menard started the No. 27 CertainTeed/Menards Chevrolet from the fourth position and captured a hard-fought 14th – place finish at Michigan International Speedway on Sunday. The early laps of the race looked promising as Menard quickly made his way to the second position on the first lap. The Eau Claire, Wis., native remained inside the top 10 until a lap-42 pit stop for right-side tires, fuel and a track bar and packer adjustment. Multiple cars elected not to take tires, or not pit at all, and Menard was forced to restart in the 22nd position. Starting mid-pack, Menard fought a loose-handling condition in traffic and the crew made a variety of chassis adjustments during the ensuing pit stops to help remedy the issue. The driver of the No. 27 Chevrolet steadily worked his way back toward the front and was running in 12th on lap 165 when crew chief “Slugger” Labbe called him onto pit road for a routine green-flag pit stop. Three laps after pitting, the caution flag flew for the final time causing Menard to fall a lap down to the leader, who had not yet come to pit road. Taking the “wave around” under caution, the 32-year-old driver was able to return to the lead lap restarting in 26th. On a mission to get back inside the top 15, Menard gained 12 spots in the remaining 27 laps to finish 14th. Menard now sits in the 11th spot in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver championship point standings heading to Sonoma Raceway next weekend.

Start – 4th                       Finish – 14th                     Laps Led – 0            Points – 11th

PAUL MENARD QUOTE:
“We had a fast CertainTeed/Menards Chevrolet at the start of the race and began to battle handling issues as the laps wore on. We got caught behind later when the caution came out after we had just pitted under green-flag conditions and had to restart at the tail end of the lead pack. I have to give my guys credit, they never gave up and we were able to fight back and come home with a top-15 finish.”

Kevin Harvick Hangs Tough to Finish Second at Michigan International Speedway

When the 200-lap, 400-mile race at Michigan International Speedway began on Sunday afternoon, Kevin Harvick and the No. 29 Budweiser Chevrolet team lined up 21st for the initial green flag. The first pit stop on lap 22, for a pre-determined competition caution, allowed the team to make multiple adjustments to help the car’s loose-handling condition. Throughout the race, crew chief Gil Martin called for pit stops taking on two and four tires at various times. This allowed the team to manage their tires during the race and avoid flats like other teams endured. For the last caution restart with 27 laps remaining, Harvick came off pit road in third with four tires, chassis adjustments and was topped off with enough fuel to go the remaining distance. During the final green-flag run, Harvick radioed in that he was feeling another vibration and didn’t want to push the car and lose valuable track position. He jumped to second place, then lost the position and regained it to earn the runner-up finish. This was his fifth consecutive top-10 finish and moved the team up  to fourth in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver championship point standings.

Start – 21st         Finish – 2nd           Laps Led – 0          Points – 4th

KEVIN HARVICK QUOTE:
“We had a few vibrations during the race and you just have to ride them out and stay in the race. Gil (Martin, crew chief) and the Budweiser Chevrolet team did a great job on pit road managing stops during the race. They just kept making good adjustments, with the biggest ones coming on the first pit stop. It was a good day for us, we fought through the vibrations to stay out there and came up with a good finish.”

Jeff Burton Collects Third Top-10 Finish of 2013 Season at Michigan International Speedway

Jeff Burton and the No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet team collected their third top-10 finish of the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season, finishing 10th in the 400-mile event at Michigan International Speedway. After starting the 200-lap affair from the 18th position, the South Boston, Va., native maintained a top-20 running position while battling with a loose-handling condition on his black and yellow machine. Burton was able to find speed in the latter stages of long green-flag runs, but the loose-handling condition plagued the Richard Childress Racing driver from passing other competitors on the track. Crew chief Luke Lambert directed the Caterpillar pit crew to make chassis and air pressure adjustments under multiple two and four-tire pit stops through the course of the event. As the race progressed, Burton began to showcase speed by posting top-five lap times. With just under 50 laps remaining, the 21-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race winner worked his way into the top 15 and caught a break on lap 168 when the caution flag was displayed after many competitors had already made green-flag pit stops. Burton capitalized on the next restart and benefited from other competitors running out of fuel in the waning laps before crossing the finish line 10th for his fourth-consecutive top-15 result of the season. With the solid finish, Burton gained four positions and now sits 17th in the Sprint Cup Series driver championship point standings.

JEFF BURTON QUOTE:
“The No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet team fought hard all day to bring home another solid finish. It turned out that tires made a huge difference and Luke (Lambert, crew chief) made all the right calls with adjustments as the track conditions changed. We continue to make progress with our 1.5-mile and two-mile track programs. Overall, it was a good points day for us.”

Austin Dillon Earns Career-Best NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Finish at Michigan International Speedway

Austin Dillon drove the No. 33 American Ethanol Chevrolet SS to an 11th-place finish in Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event at Michigan International Speedway, posting his career-best finish in his seventh series start. The Richard Childress Racing driver started the 200-lap race from the seventh position, his best starting position in NASCAR’s top tier division. The Welcome, N.C. driver spent the beginning of the race battling a loose-handling condition on his black and green Chevrolet. Working with crew chief Dr. Eric Warren, Dillon & Co. followed a pit strategy off-cycle from the race leader during the beginning and middle stages of the race. The team opted not to pit when the race leader and several front runners visited pit road under caution on lap 42, positioning Dillon in the second spot for a lap-45 restart. The rookie Sprint Cup Series driver was fast at the front of the field, maintaining pace within the top five for the next 30 circuits until he was pinned one lap down when the caution flag was displayed while pitting under green-flag conditions on lap 72. Dillon opted to take the “wave around” to gain his lap back and restarted 26th on lap 80. Although his car handled loose during the next run, Dillon continued to post fast lap times and move forward in the running order. He was scored in the 13th position when the caution flag was displayed on lap 168, prompting Dr. Warren to direct him down pit road for the final pit stop of the day. When entering his pit box, Dillon overshot his pit stall and had to be pushed back into his box, costing valuable seconds on pit road before the RCR team changed four tires and added Sunoco Green E15 fuel. Dillon was relegated to the 22nd position for the lap-173 restart, but assured his crew he planned to drive as aggressively as possible during the remaining laps of the event. Not to disappoint, Dillon gained 11 spots to finish a career-best 11th in the No. 33 American Ethanol Chevrolet.

Brian Scott Finishes 10th at Michigan International Speedway

Brian Scott and the No. 2 crew battled from two left-rear flat tires in the Alliance Truck Parts 250 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Michigan International Speedway to earn their seventh top-10 finish of 2013. Scott started in the third spot, with Richard Childress Racing sweeping the top three spots in qualifying. Action immediately got interesting for the Boise, Idaho native as Scott suffered left-rear damage when he was involved in a multi-car incident on lap two. He brought his Chevrolet Camaro to the attention of the crew, who fixed the damage and added four fresh tires. As the field set up for a lengthy green-flag run, Scott turned lap times as fast as the leaders and climbed through the field to the 11th spot. Crew chief Phil Gould called Scott to pit road for routine service and once green-flag stops cycled through, he was shown 10th. Laps continued to tick away and Scott was solidly inside the top-10 until the left-rear tire went down for the second time of the day, causing damage to the left-rear quarter panel. The No. 2 team made several stops under the caution period to fix damage. When green-flag waved for the restart, Scott posted competitive lap times and battled just outside the top-10, ultimately finishing in the 10th spot. With his seventh top-10 of 2013, Scott moved up to the sixth position in Nationwide Series driver championship standings.

Start – 3                       Finish – 10                   Laps Led – 0                       Points – 6th

BRIAN SCOTT QUOTE:
“It was a tough race, the No. 99 got into us on the first lap and caused damage to our Shore Lodge Camaro. We didn’t get it fixed the way we needed and the fender continued to rub causing another flat tire, which caused more damage. We just fought all day trying to repair the car and to get it to run fast, even with damage we felt we had a top five car. But, we still got a top-10 after what was a pretty terrible day as far as luck goes. We’ll take it and move on to our first road course of the season.”

Austin Dillon Sets NASCAR Nationwide Series Pole Award Record, Leads Laps at Michigan International Speedway Before Late-Race Issue Causes 20th-Place Finish

Austin Dillon earned his fourth-consecutive Pole Award in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, setting an all-time series record, but ultimately posted a 20th-place finish in the No. 3 AdvoCare Chevrolet at Michigan International Speedway after cutting a tire in the closing laps of the Alliance Truck Parts 250. Dillon led the 39-car starting field to the green flag and showed the way for the first half of the race until the caution flag was displayed for a debris on lap 65. Several teams pitted under the yellow flag, but the No. 3 team followed a different pit strategy and stayed out during the caution period. Leading the field to the restart on lap 68, Dillon immediately dropped to seventh in the running order and reported that a left-rear tire was flat on the black No. 3 Chevrolet, forcing an unscheduled green-flag pit stop for four tires and fuel. The pit stop caused Dillon to fall one lap down to the race leader, in the 16th position. Dillon raced his way into position to earn the “Lucky Dog” when the caution flag was displayed on lap 99 and rejoined the lead lap in 14th. He pitted for four tires, fuel and a track bar adjustment before green-flag racing resumed with 23 laps of competition remaining. During the closing laps, Dillon posted the fastest lap times of the field and raced his way up to ninth before contact with another car caused him to cut a right-front tire, necessitating a second unscheduled green-flag pit stop. The No. 3 AdvoCare pit crew changed four tires under green flag conditions and Dillon rejoined the field to post a 20th-place finish.

Start – 1                  Finish – 20                 Laps Led – 61                  Points – 4th

AUSTIN DILLON QUOTE:
“Wow. It was a frustrating day. I’m very proud of my guys on the No. 3 AdvoCare Chevrolet team. They did a great job. There’s nothing you can do about a flat tire. Hopefully our luck will change soon enough.”

Menard Captures Third-Place Finish in NASCAR Nationwide Series Race at Michigan International Speedway

Making his first NASCAR Nationwide Series start of the season, Paul Menard had one of the fastest cars on the track all day, driving the No. 33 Rheem/Menards Chevrolet to a third-place finish at Michigan International Speedway on Saturday. Qualifying on the outside pole earlier in the day, Menard slipped back several positions during two early caution periods on laps two and eight while he battled with a tight-handling car. Although he was tight in traffic, Menard posted lap times faster than the leader and worked his way up to second at lap 58. After a lap 65 caution period, Menard made slight contact with another competitor on the ensuing restart, causing damage to the right-rear quarter panel of the No. 33 machine. A lap 81 caution flag allowed crew chief Ernie Cope to call his driver down pit road for repairs to the quarter panel, four fresh tires, fuel and a track bar adjustment. After a lengthy pit stop, Menard restarted in 10th with 40 laps to go. It didn’t take long for Menard to make his way back toward the front of the field, as the Eau Claire, Wis., native was scored in fourth at lap 107. Just two laps later, Menard was tagged from behind while making a pass for third, causi
ng him to fall to seventh with 15 laps remaining in the 125-lap event. Driving the fastest car on the track, Menard worked his way to third before the checkered flag flew at Michigan International Speedway.

Start – 2                Finish – 3                 Laps Led – 0                Owners Points – 9th

PAUL MENARD QUOTE:
“We had an awesome Rheem/Menards Chevrolet Camaro at Michigan International Speedway. We passed a lot of cars today. We seemed to fall back a little on the restarts, but it didn’t take long for us to make up ground on the leaders with how fast our car ran all day. I felt like we had the car to beat and if we had a few more laps, I think we would have been in contention for the win. I enjoyed getting back in the Nationwide car and we’ll take a third-place finish. I can’t thank Ernie (Cope, crew chief) and the whole team enough for all of their hard work today. I had a lot of fun and I’m looking forward to our next Nationwide (Series) race later in the season.”

Late-Race Incident Relegates Menard to 30th-Place Finish at Pocono Raceway

Paul Menard and the No. 27 Quaker State/Menards Chevrolet team had their afternoon spoiled by a blown tire on the final lap and finished 30th in the 400-mile NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event at Pocono Raceway. Menard started the race in the ninth position after persistent rain showers forced NASCAR officials to cancel Friday’s qualifying session. The 32-year old driver maintained a top-15 position during the first 60 laps while battling a loose-handling condition on his green and yellow machine. After falling out of the top 20 during the middle stages of the race, crew chief “Slugger” Labbe and the No. 27 pit crew went to work and made several adjustments to the car during multiple pit stops. As the race progressed, the Richard Childress Racing driver climbed back into the top 15 where he remained until bad luck struck on the final lap when a right-front tire went flat causing the Eau Claire, Wis., native to lose control of his car and slam into the outside retaining wall. In the end, Menard settled for a 30th-place finish and now sits 12th in Sprint Cup Series driver championship point standings.

PAUL MENARD QUOTE:
“Our Quaker State/Menards Chevrolet was pretty good for most of today’s race, but it was a tough way to end the day with a blown tire on the final lap. We’ll keep our heads up and look for a better result in Michigan next Sunday.”

Harvick Salvages Top-10 Finish at “The Tricky Triangle”

Kevin Harvick and the No. 29 Rheem team rallied back to a ninth-place result at Pocono Raceway on Sunday afternoon after receiving a mid-race pit road speeding penalty. The Richard Childress Racing driver started the 160-lap event from the fifth position after rain canceled qualifying Friday afternoon, setting the field by the NASCAR rulebook. During the early laps of the Party in the Poconos 400, Harvick informed crew chief Gil Martin he was battling a tight-handling red and black Chevrolet that transitioned to a loose condition as the run progressed. The Rheem pit crew executed scheduled two and four-tire pit stops on laps 26, 54 and 67, along with chassis and air pressure adjustments, in an effort to alleviate the handling issues their driver was battling. Harvick maintained a top-five position in the running order until a lap 99 green-flag pit stop when NASCAR officials issued a pass-through penalty for speeding on pit road, forcing him back to the 28th position. As the race progressed, the California native methodically and patiently worked his way back toward the front of the field, crossing the finish line in the ninth position. Following his sixth top-10 finish of the season, Harvick remains fifth in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver championship point standings.

Start – 5         Finish – 9         Laps Led – 0            Points – 5th

KEVIN HARVICK QUOTE:
“The Rheem crew did a great job today at Pocono Raceway, especially coming back from that mid-race set back on pit road. Recovering from that mistake to finish in the top 10 is proof of how hard this team works each week.”

Burton Finishes 11th at Pocono Raceway

Jeff Burton and the No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet team battled back to a top-15 finish of 11th at Pocono Raceway. Starting the 400-mile event from the 24th position after rain forced NASCAR officials to cancel Friday’s qualifying session, the 21-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race winner worked his way into the top 20 early while battling a loose on exit and tight in the middle-handling condition. Burton began to find speed as the race progressed, but a missed shift on a restart relegated the Richard Childress Racing driver to the 27th position on lap 75. By the time the next caution flag was displayed on lap 126, Burton was solidly back in the top 20. The Caterpillar team didn’t give up over the course of the race, making several chassis adjustments to remedy the ill-handling condition during multiple pit stops and finally started to showcase speed in the latter stages of long runs. The 45-year-old driver restarted in the top 15 on lap 129 and worked his way into the top 10 five laps later, making it to as high as seventh on the leaderboard. Over the final 19 laps, Burton battled through multiple restarts and managed to bring home the black and yellow machine in 11th place. Burton is now 21st in the Sprint Cup Series driver championship point standings.

Start – 24          Finish – 11          Laps Led – 0           Points – 21th

JEFF BURTON QUOTE:
“Today was just another day where the No. 31 team showed we are making progress with our 1.5-mile and above track program. I dug us a hole early in the race by missing a shift on a restart and restarts were so important today. You had to be aggressive. I also expected to run well here after our successful test session last week. We’ll continue to make progress next weekend at Michigan (International Speedway).”

Brian Scott Earns a Sixth-Place Finish at Iowa Speedway

Brian Scott earned his sixth top-10 finish of the 2013 season at Iowa Speedway after starting third in Sunday morning’s Iowa Pioneer 250 NASCAR Nationwide Series race. Scott battled among the leaders throughout the opening laps of the event. Once settling into his groove, the Boise, Idaho, native reported to crew chief Phil Gould that he was free in and off the corner. The caution flag was displayed on lap 50, which allowed Scott to make a trip down pit road for four fresh tires, fuel and a chassis adjustment. Racing resumed on lap 56 with the Richard Childress Racing driver lined up third. Laps ticked away while the skies became darker and rain eventually put the race under a red-flag condition. When track drying was complete, Scott took the green-flag in the third position with less than 100 laps remaining. Scott battled with the No. 32 car in the final stage of the race, ultimately taking the checkered flag in the sixth position.

BRIAN SCOTT QUOTE:

Dominate Performance Culminates with Second-Place Finish for Austin Dillon at Iowa Speedway

Richard Childress Racing’s Austin Dillon led 207 of 250 laps in the Iowa Pioneer 250 at Iowa Speedway on Sunday afternoon, but ultimately settled for a second-place finish in the No. 3 AdvoCare Chevrolet after losing forward drive during a long green-flag run in the closing stages of the NASCAR Nationwide Series event. Dillon started the 12th race of the 2013 season from the front row after earning his third-consecutive Nationwide Series pole award on Saturday afternoon, tying the record for most consecutive poles in the Series’ history. The green-flag was displayed to the 40-car starting field shortly after 11 a.m. Eastern Time on Sunday afternoon after rain showers on Saturday caused NASCAR officials to postpone the start of the 200-mile event. Dillon showed speed from the start of the race, immediately driving away from the field and only briefly relinquishing the point position from laps 9 through 24. At times, Dillon extended his lead by as much as six seconds over the second-place competitor. He never fell outside of the top-nine during the course of the race, maintaining an average running position of 1.244. With less than 50 laps remaining, the Welcome, N.C. native had a 2.6-second lead over eventual race winner Trevor Bayne. However, a long green-flag run, combined with changing track conditions as the sun poked out of the cloud cover, created a lack of forward drive for Dillon. With less than 10 laps remaining the duo battled side-by-side for the lead with Dillon eventually settling for a
second-place finish.

Start – 1             Finish – 2             Laps Led – 207          Points – 4th

AUSTIN DILLON QUOTE:
“It was a disappointing finish to a strong day. We lost grip when the sun came out and the No. 6 car took off. It’s part of racing, though, and I’m still proud of this team for what we were able to accomplish this weekend. On to Michigan International Speedway.”

Max Papis Finishes 31st after Multi-Car Incident at Iowa Speedway

Making his 2013 NASCAR Nationwide Series debut with Richard Childress Racing and the No. 33 Rheem/Menards race team, Max Papis put together a solid race weekend effort before a mid-race collision took him out of contention on Sunday at Iowa Speedway. Qualifying 25th on Saturday afternoon, Papis challenged for a top-20 running position for the first 150 circuits of the 250-lap event while battling a tight-handling No. 33 Rheem/Menards Chevrolet Camaro. The crew made a few small adjustments through the course of several pit stops in an attempt to remedy the tight condition. After the Como, Italy born driver communicated to the team that he dialed in more front brake, he began to log top-five speeds during the second green-flag run. Papis was in position to work his way toward the front of the field when an incident between the No. 20 and No. 60 cars collected him on lap 155. He sustained race-ending damages and was unable to return to the track, leaving the team to settle for a 31st-place finish.

      Start – 25            Finish – 31         Laps Led – 0            Points – N/A

MAX PAPIS QUOTE:
“It was a rough end to the day we were having. Ernie Cope (crew chief) and the No. 33 guys did a great job giving me a solid Rheem/Menards Camaro. I really felt we found a line and the adjustments we needed to be competitive. I’m not sure what happened really, I was on the apron and I had nowhere to go. Proud of the run we had, just frustrated it ended the way it did.”

Menard Finishes 20th at Dover International Speedway

Paul Menard started the 400-mile event at Dover International Speedway from the 16th position and struggled with handling issues throughout the day to finish 20th on Sunday afternoon. A long green-flag run at the start of the race, coupled with a tight-handling condition, caused Menard to fall a lap down to the leader at lap 56. The No. 27 crew made a variety of chassis adjustments during the ensuing pit stops on laps 71 and 82. The changes provided some relief to the Eau Claire, Wis., native as he radioed to the crew that the car was the best it had been all day. As the laps wore on, Menard began to struggle with a race car that was loose on entry and exit, and tight in the center of the corners. Continued long-green-flag runs and persistent handling issues contributed to Menard falling two laps down to the leader at lap 282. The team never gave up and made an array of chassis adjustments for the remainder of the event. A caution on lap 379 allowed the 32-year-old driver to take the “wave around” gaining one of his laps back. Restarting in 19th with 20 laps to go, Menard was able to maintain a top-20 running position for the remainder of the event, crossing the finish line 20th. “It was a tough day for the No. 27 Libman/Menards crew. We struggled with handling all weekend at Dover (International Speedway), and never seemed to hit on the right setup. My guys never gave up and worked their guts out making a variety of adjustments all day to try and get the car to handle better. We fought hard to get one of our laps back, but we just couldn’t gain any track position. We’ll head to Pocono (Raceway) next weekend looking for better results.”

Harvick Finishes Eighth at “The Monster Mile”

Kevin Harvick and the No. 29 Jimmy John’s team earned an eighth-place result at Dover International Speedway on Sunday afternoon after starting from the seventh position and battling handling issues during the 400-lap affair. The California native maintained a spot within or near the top-10 throughout the FedEx 400 Benefiting Autism Speaks while battling loose and tight-handling conditions. The Gil Martin-led pit crew executed multiple scheduled two and four-tire pit stops, along with an array of chassis adjustments, in an effort to neutralize handling of the Jimmy John’s Chevrolet. Speedy stops on pit road allowed Harvick to gain valuable track position, working his way up to as high as third for the lap-285 restart. As the race progressed, the Richard Childress Racing veteran alerted the team he was still battling a loose-handling condition, which ultimately caused him to fall back in the field crossing the finish line in the eighth position. Following the top-10 finish, Harvick gained two spots in the Sprint Cup Series driver championship point standings moving up to fifth.

KEVIN HARVICK QUOTE:
“Our Jimmy John’s Chevrolet was good one run, really loose one run and really tight the next run. At the end we were loose and tight, so we lost a few spots and weren’t able to make our way back toward the front. The team really worked hard today and the pit crew was on top of things, so were able to hang in there and get a solid top-10 finish.”

Burton Finishes 11th at Dover International Speedway

Jeff Burton and the No. 31 Cheerios Chevrolet team battled their way to a top-15 finish of 11th at Dover International Speedway. Starting the 400-lap event from the 29th position, the 21-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race winner worked his way into the top 20 early, but was trapped one lap down to the leader during a long green-flag run. As a loose on entry and tight in the middle-handling condition persisted throughout the race, Burton struggled with ill-timed caution-flag periods as opportunities to return to the lead lap via the “Lucky Dog” award eluded him. Finally, on lap 161, the caution flag was displayed and the 45-year-old driver was able to return to the lead lap. Restarting in the top 20, Burton struggled throughout another long green-flag run and found himself one lap down to the leader again. The Cheerios team didn’t give up through the course of the race, making several chassis adjustments to remedy the ill-handling condition and finally started to showcase speed in the latter stages of long runs. The Richard Childress Racing driver was finally dealt good luck with 22 laps to go when he received the “Lucky Dog” award to again return to the lead lap. The fortunate turn of events gave Burton the opportunity to gain five positions during the final 20 laps and bring home an 11th-place finish. Burton is now tied for 20th in the Sprint Cup Series driver championship point standings.

Start – 29          Finish – 11          Laps Led – 0          Points – 20th

JEFF BURTON QUOTE:
“Everyone on this Cheerios Chevrolet team put in a solid
effort all weekend. I had a really fast car on the long runs, but getting trapped a lap down twice hindered our chances of a top-10 finish. After testing at Pocono Raceway last week, I feel like we are starting to gain momentum moving into the summer races and am looking for another strong result there.”

Brian Scott Earns a 14th -Place Finish at Dover International Speedway

Brian Scott and the No. 2 Shore Lodge team took the checkered flag in the 14th spot Saturday afternoon at Dover International Speedway, after fighting lack of grip most of the NASCAR Nationwide Series race. In the early stages of the 200-lap event, the 25-year-old reported he was fighting both a loose and tight condition. The caution-flag was displayed for the first time on lap 45 allowing Scott to make a trip down pit road for four fresh tires, fuel and adjustments. Over the course of the next run, Scott reported the handling improved, but was still fighting the tight condition, as he climbed to 12th place. The crew continued to make adjustments to improve the handling on the No. 2 Shore Lodge Camaro throughout the remainder of the event. The field stretched out as several lengthy green-flag runs ensued. The caution flag was displayed for the final time on lap 161 and crew chief Phil Gould called Scott to the attention of the pit crew for two tires, fuel and adjustments. The Boise, Idaho, native restarted from the ninth spot before ultimately crossing the finish line 14th.

Start – 10          Finish – 14          Laps Led – 0          Points – 8th

BRIAN SCOTT QUOTE:
“We had a good qualifying effort, but we just played catch up come race time by fighting lack of grip. Track position was important as there were long green flag runs, we just didn’t get the track position we needed to contend. I’ll take this weekend as a learning lesson and move on to Iowa.”

Austin Dillon Earns Second-Consecutive Pole Award En Route to Top-10 Finish
at Dover International Speedway

Austin Dillon was a strong contender in Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Dover International Speedway, earning his second-consecutive pole award of the 2013 season and an eighth-place finish in Richard Childress Racing’s No. 3 AdvoCare Chevrolet Camaro. The Welcome, N.C., driver took the green flag from the pole position and led the first 35 laps before settling into second as a loose-handling condition developed on his Chevrolet. Several caution periods through the course of the 200-lap race provided crew chief Danny Stockman the opportunity to work on the handling of the black No. 3 machine through a series of pit stops. Dillon spent the entire race running in the top-10, including a total of 43 laps led. When the caution flag was displayed with approximately 40 laps remaining in the race, Dillon was scored in the sixth position, prompting Stockman to direct his driver down pit road for the team’s final pit stop of the day. Utilizing a similar pit strategy as several other front runners, Dillon received right-side tires only and gained two positions on pit road. He restarted fourth on lap 166, but handling issues continued to plague the team during the final run and they posted an eighth-place finish.

Start – 1          Finish – 8          Laps Led – 43          Points – 5th

AUSTIN DILLON QUOTE:
“We had a really strong AdvoCare Chevrolet today, and it showed through our pole award and our performance early in the race. We need to work harder at putting together solid finishes at the end of these races. We have a lot to be proud of, though. The No. 3 pit crew was awesome today. I’m looking forward to Iowa Speedway next week. I think our team will be really good there.”

Ty Dillon has top-10 run Negated by Late-Race Tire Vibration
at Dover International Speedway

Ty Dillon and the No. 33 Wesco Chevrolet team took the initial green flag for the 200-lap race at Dover International Speedway in eighth place. The part-time Nationwide Series driver for Richard Childress Racing remained in and near the top-10 for much of the race around the one-mile oval. Early in the event, Dillon reported to crew chief Ernie Cope that his Chevrolet Camaro was loose into the turns, tight in the center and then loose off. The caution flew on lap 45 giving Dillon the opportunity to hit pit road and take four tires, fuel, chassis and air pressure adjustments. Through three other stops under caution, Dillon received four tires, fuel, chassis and air pressure adjustments. On the fourth stop under caution, Cope called for two right-side tires on lap 161. Each stop allowed the No. 33 team to improve their position on pit road by one or two markers. As the laps wound down, Dillon was solidly inside the top-10 when he reported a vibration developed in the right-rear tire on lap 185. The vibration became too much to make it to the end of the event and Cope ordered the driver to pit road under green with 13 laps remaining to change tires. Dillon returned to action two laps down to the leader, relegating him to a 23rd-place finish.

Start – 8          Finish – 23          Laps Led – 0          Owner Points – 9

TY DILLON QUOTE:
“We had such a good run going here at Dover (International Speedway). We were running in the top-10, we were holding our own against the regulars and I was so sure we were going to leave here with a decent finish. When that vibration started, I didn’t see any sense in staying out and tearing up our Wesco Chevrolet – or anyone else’s car. We did the right thing by pitting, I just wish our finish would show what a good race we had going. I would like to thank Wesco for all they do to make this possible.”
