NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster team Randy Meyer Racing made the most of their weekend and came out on top at SRCA Dragstrip in Great Bend, KS. Sisters Megan and Rachel Meyer drove the NGK Spark Plugs/Lucas Oil/Meyer Truck Center backed dragsters and worked through the chilly weather conditions to compete in the final Division 5/Central Region Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event. “Yesterday is not ours to recover, but tomorrow is ours to win or lose.” – Lyndon B. Johnson

We all know that feeling of defeat when you just miss the tree by a mile and can’t reach the finish line first. Unfortunately, it happens (a lot more than we want to admit) in racing, and letting down your team, your car, and your sponsors is the worst feeling in the world.

This past weekend, my teammate Julie and I both lost first round for the second race in a row. For us that is a big deal; we have been to 11 final rounds this year in 18 races and naturally expect both cars to go rounds on race day. Yet, that wasn’t the case at Indy or Reading. “No excuses. No explanations. You don’t win on emotion – you win on execution.” – Tony Dungy

Being a witness to my sister achieving her first Top Alcohol win is one of my favorite memories of 2018. Many of you know that my sister only races in our A/Fuel dragster that was previously driven by my dad a few times a year, simply because she is a full-time employee at an international engineering firm. On her weekends off, Rachel hops in her Super Comp dragster and competes at her local dragstrip, Mo-Kan Dragway in Asbury, Missouri, where she is a top-10 points contender. She is scheduled to race at two more NHRA events – one National event and one Regional event – with our team, and for her it’s all about having fun and getting her hands dirty. Rachel’s Instagram handle is Clutch Girl for a reason; she has been a clutch mechanic on our dragsters for many years and it was her first interest into becoming a mechanical engineer. While she handles the driver duties, she also handles taking out a scorching hot clutch pack immediately after a run and putting in a fresh set of discs and floaters for the next pass.

Our weekend at Heartland Motorsports Park kicked off great and ended even better, as we took the top two qualifying spots and had the best cars on track all weekend long. On the day of eliminations, we had many customers, friends, and family come out to cheer us on, and we ended up feeding over 100 people with our racer appreciation lunch for all of the Top Alcohol pits. For the opening round, I faced off with Dean Dubbin, who is the Central Region points leader that I am now currently tied with, and took the win with lane choice for the next round. Rachel had opponent Terry Schmidt and although she shook, she got the win and later beat Gary Cooper. I lost in the second round to Jared Dreher as I shook and had to lift off the throttle to regain traction, but lost crucial time on the track as he flew by me. We were all very excited and confident going into the finals for Rachel, as it was her second final round of the year and the odds were in her favor to win. Jared had a slight advantage on the tree, but Rachel got around him and took the win with a 5.29 ET at 268 mph. We had many showers for her celebration and had a few of our friends stay for the winner’s circle picture while the track was still running the other Sportsman classes.

Finishing up the month of July and headed into August, I completed most of my summer goals and will check a few more off my list soon. It’s crucial for me to set goals outside of racing to grow financially, physically, and psychologically. My racing season is over halfway done and I only have six races remaining on my schedule (Brainerd, Indy, Earlville, Reading, Charlotte and St. Louis) and all of these races will determine my 2018 points finish. The points chase is close this year, and it will be interesting to see who comes out on top after Pomona.

Meyer vs. Meyer: All Female Final at Tulsa

The Randy Meyer Racing Team has been racing at Tulsa Raceway Park for decades but has had a wide range of success at the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event held at the track in June. Last year, driver Megan Meyer earned a Runner-Up finish to James Stevens, ending her streak of a perfect 5-race win record.

This year, Megan and her sister, Rachel Meyer, who was driving the team’s second A/Fuel Dragster, dominated the field. The girls were the only females competing in the 8-car field and were very successful taking down the boys. Megan and Rachel qualified first and second with a 5.22 ET and 5.25 ET respectively, running over a tenth of a second ahead of the competition. Central Region Champion Megan Meyer Seeking Second Consecutive Belle Rose, Louisiana Regional Win

After helping the Randy Meyer Racing Team earn the number 1 qualifying spot at the NHRA Pomona Winternationals, with Julie Nataas driving, Megan Meyer is ready to kick off her Junior year in the Top Alcohol Dragster class at the Nitro in the Bayou event. Megan and the Randy Meyer Racing Team will be competing for their second consecutive title at the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series’ (LODRS) Central Regional race on March 2-4 with teammate Julie Nataas driving the team’s second dragster.

“I’m stoked to be back in Louisiana,” said Megan. “Our first year ever here, in 2016, we finished second, and won the next year. This track is one of my favorite’s because of the great weather, fun competition, and amazing fans.” Continue reading Central Region Champion Megan Meyer Seeking Second Consecutive Belle Rose, Louisiana Regional Win

“You have to stay ahead of the game, or you’ll get left behind.” –Randy Meyer

This is the motto for our team coming into the new race season, and we are not one to back down. We are always striving to be stronger, faster, and quicker on the track and in the pits. We didn’t make any major changes in the off season. Instead, we made little changes that make a big difference in cutting down maintenance, time spent working on the cars, and organization. Each year my dad comes up with new ideas to increase our speed between rounds, because it seems like we get less and less time on race day. Simply making things easier and work more efficient was our focus this offseason.

Before we headed to Phoenix for the Nitro Spring Training, Julie and I visited Scottsdale for the Women In Auto Care Leadership Conference and had an absolute blast. It was a short conference, but the knowledge we absorbed and connections we made are priceless. I highly encourage all women (and men!) in the motorsports/automotive industry to take a look at this growing group.

WELD Racing Named Presenting Sponsor of Megan Meyer’s Drag Illustrated Driver Blog
KIRKSVILLE, Mo. (Jan. 23, 2018) – Drag Illustrated magazine announced today that its popular Driver Blog series written by NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster star Megan Meyer will be presented by WELD Racing this season. Now in her fourth year as a Drag Illustrated Driver Blog contributor, Meyer will give readers a behind-the-scenes look at her experiences as a championship-contending driver and team manager at Randy Meyer Racing.

“Since becoming a brand ambassador for WELD last year, I have learned a tremendous amount about wheel specs for all different types of motorsports,” said Meyer, a two-time NHRA national event winner. “I would like to transfer that knowledge to other racers through the blogs, while also touch on other important aspects of racing. In my blogs for this year, I have a few creative ideas to cover, such as shop talk, fitness, outdoors lifestyle, how to get started in drag racing, sponsorships, and more. My goal is to create awareness of a driver’s lifestyle and how I can help fellow racers become well-rounded on and off the track through my personal experiences.”

High Stakes: Record Speed with Bill Litton

For two back-to-back weekends in Las Vegas, Team Litton Racing combined its efforts with Randy Meyer Racing to leave their mark on both the NHRA Toyota Nationals and Lucas Oil Regionals. Going into the Toyota Nationals, Team Litton knew there was plenty at stake being the next-to-last event of the Mello Yello Drag Racing Series. Every run was important, and a slip could be worse than snake eyes at the other Strip’s craps tables. With the Team pumped up and Randy Meyer horsepower ready, Driver Bill Litton, Crew Chief Randy Meyer, and Co-Crew Chief Dan Pomponio along with Co-Crew Chief Adrian Long, and team member Megan Meyer were all confident to roll the dice before a “sell out” crowd. One word to describe how my rookie year (2016) in Top Alcohol Dragster ended: heartbreaking. This year, I’d say we ended confidently. Although we had a few ups and downs, we still came out strong with one NHRA national event win at Joliet, four Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series wins at Florida, Louisiana, Kansas, Iowa, and three runner-ups. That’s eight final rounds, one Lucas Oil Central Region championship, and a provisional second-place finish in national points, in 15 races. Megan Meyer Scores First Victory at Home Track in Topeka
Megan Meyer and sister, Rachel Meyer, competed together in the Top Alcohol Dragster Class at Heartland Park Topeka July 27-31st with support from Meyer Truck Center Inc., Quality Structures Inc., and Up In Smoke BBQ Sauce. This was their second race this year racing side-by-side at their home track with the Randy Meyer Racing Team. Although Rachel claimed the runner-up finish at the NHRA National event, it was Megan who would take home the win at the Lucas Oil Regional race.

Rachel scored the number one qualifying spot with the quickest and fastest time of the three sessions, a 5.30 E.T. at 275 mph. Megan was not far behind in the third position with her 5.34 E.T. at 273 mph. With the two girls placed on opposite sides of the ladder, it was a perfect match for an all Meyer final round.

As the number one qualifier, Rachel faced Marty Thacker from Indiana for the opening round of eliminations. Unfortunately Rachel had a slow reaction time, as Marty shot off the starting line first and never trailed for the win with a 5.41 E.T. to Rachel’s 5.34 E.T. Megan was up against the sixth qualifier, David Brounkowski, who encountered tire smoke and Megan powered down the track for the win with a 5.37 E.T. at 273 mph.

Going into the second round, Megan had to take down the newcomer, Mike Edstrom, who had just received his Top Alcohol Dragster NHRA license the day before eliminations. Megan got off the starting line first, but Mike got ahead of her down the track. Megan powered through to cross the finish line first, by a mere .003 seconds, approximately 14 inches.

Final Round Appearance for Megan Meyer at Tulsa Raceway Park

The rising star of the Top Alcohol Dragster Class, Megan Meyer, extended her Central Region points lead after earning a runner-up finish at Tulsa Raceway Park. This is Megan’s third final round appearance for the 2017 season and her first runner-up conclusion.

Megan powered her A/Fuel Dragster to a 5.36 E.T. at 270 mph to claim the second qualifying position, while her teammate Shayne Lawson wasn’t able to qualify with his 5.54 pass. The opening round of eliminations saw Megan against Christine Chambless, the only other female driver in the class for the event. Megan defeated Christine with a slower 5.44 E.T. at only 256 mph, but still had lane choice over Spencer Massey in the second round.
