CHARLOTTE (April 24) — Six-time world champion drag racer Jeg Coughlin Jr. leads a strong contingent of talented JEGS-sponsored racers into this weekend’s ninth annual NGK Spark Plugs NHRA Four-Wide Nationals that will vie for wins in Pro Stock, Top Alcohol Dragster, Super Gas and Super Comp.

More importantly, the driver of the JEGS.com/Elite Performance Pro Stock Camaro will be racing with his family, as his teammates for this event consist of his wife Samantha, his nephew Troy Jr., and his niece Paige. The Charlotte group, which includes Jeg’s brother Troy, the father of Troy Jr. and Paige, who will be on hand to offer support, also will be rooting for 13-year-old Clay, who will be racing his Junior Dragster in Columbus with his dad Mike, the brother of Jeg Jr. and Troy. Why it’s good Pro Stock champ Jeg Coughlin Jr. is mad about his best race of the year
HOUSTON (April 22) — Only time will tell but it could very well come to pass that five-time pro Stock champion Jeg Coughlin Jr. eventually points to this weekend’s 31st annual NHRA SpringNationals as the place where his 2018 campaign was truly launched.

After struggling through the first four races of the year, winning just one round and failing to qualify in the top half of any elimination ladder, Coughlin came to life Sunday in the Lone Star State, qualifying a lofty second overall and speeding through to the semifinals before shaking his tires and losing to part-timer racer Matt Hartford, who uses Elite Performance motors. “We’re very much looking forward to this race for a number of reasons,” said Mike Coughlin, a two-time Division 3 champion and driver of the JEGS.com Top Dragster. “First of all, my guys — Greg Cody, Dave Raurk, Ryan Micke and Tony Collier — have this car better than it’s ever been. Without question, it’s one of the top cars in the world and it’s certainly capable of winning any race.
That’s exciting. Continue reading Trio of Team JEGS racers primed for ‘Power in the Park’ Division 1 season opener

HOUSTON (April 17) — Five of Jeg Coughlin Jr.’s remarkable tally of 76 national event victories have come at Royal Purple Raceway, making this weekend’s 31st annual NHRA SpringNationals at the legendary southeast Texas speedplant the perfect place for the JEGS.com-sponsored pro to turn his fortunes around.

“We’ve been tripping on our shoelaces lately, trying so hard to find the perfect balance to get back to our winning ways, and I can’t think of a better place for everything to come together than Houston,” Coughlin said. “I’ll admit to being very partial to this track and this event. GAINESVILLE, Fla. (March 18) — For the second race in a row, five-time Pro Stock champion Jeg Coughlin Jr. squared off against reigning titlist Bo Butner in the first round of eliminations. GAINESVILLE, Fla. (March 17) — For the second national event in a row, Jeg Coughlin Jr. will face reigning Pro Stock champion Bo Butner in the opening round of sudden-death eliminations. Without question, he’ll be hoping for the same result as last time, when he upset Butner on a holeshot
in Phoenix.

The scene here in Florida is nearly the same. In Arizona, Coughlin was the No. 11 qualifier. This time Coughlin is the No. 12 qualifier. Once again, Coughlin could likely benefit from a great start as his best run of 6.581 at 209.75 mph is slightly behind Butner’s best run of 6.534 at 212.53 mph. GAINESVILLE, Fla. (March 13) — Jeg Coughlin Jr. has his sights set on a third visit to the winner’s circle of Gainesville Raceway during this weekend’s 49th annual Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals. And after a successful test session for the entire Elite Motorsports group, Coughlin thinks another trophy run is well within reach.

“We found a few things that appear to be giving us the consistency and efficiency we’ve been lacking at the first two races of the year,” Coughlin said. “The JEGS.com Chevrolet Camaro has been a little lazy between 100 foot and 3-400 feet and we look for more favorable results this weekend.

CHANDLER, Ariz. (Feb. 24) — Jeg Coughlin Jr. saved his best qualifying pass for last, navigating Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in 6.553 seconds at 210.14 mph early Saturday evening to jump up to the 11th starting slot at the 34th annual NHRA Arizona Nationals.

“That final pass definitely felt much better,” Coughlin said. “It moved out to the left a little bit and I had to work to get it back in the groove but I could tell as soon as I let the clutch out this thing was screaming. It could have been even better but I hit the rev-limiter in the 4-5 gear change, which is a big no-no, because it’s like tapping the brakes, which you obviously don’t want to do. Even so, we put an okay number up there. Continue reading World champion Jeg Coughlin Jr. aiming for early season success at Arizona Nationals

POMONA, Calif. (Feb. 11) — Jeg Coughlin Jr. will have to wait until the fall to try for a seventh victory at historic Auto Club Raceway in Pomona after dropping a close Round 1 race to Elite Motorsports teammate Erica Enders.

Both Coughlin and Enders posted 6.59-second passes to kick-off the season-opening 58th Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals presented by ProtectTheHarvest.com, but a slightly quicker start by Enders at the Christmas Tree — .018-second reaction time to Coughlin’s .031-second launch — earned Enders the win light.

From SoCal to South Korea, Pro Stock champ Jeg Coughlin Jr. ready to get things rolling

From SoCal to South Korea, Pro Stock champ Jeg Coughlin Jr. ready to get things rolling
POMONA, Calif. (Feb. 6) — A new NHRA season always gets five-time Pro Stock world champion Jeg Coughlin Jr. fired up. When combined with the kickoff of the Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea, the 58th Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals presented by ProtectTheHarvest.com are cause for real celebration.

The Olympic torch carried by Coughlin in
2002 is proudly displayed in his home.
Coughlin, a 76-time national event winner in NHRA competition, has a long and proud history with the Olympic movement. In 2002, when the Winter Games were held in Salt Lake City, Coughlin had the honor of carrying the torch through his hometown of Columbus, Ohio. He later battled NASCAR stars for numerous years in the Bo-Dyn Bobsled Challenge to raise critical funding for the USA Bobsled team. He also attended the Vancouver Games in 2010 as a guest of Team USA.

“Most kids grow up dreaming about the Olympics and feeling that incredible admiration for our athletes,” Coughlin said. “I certainly feel that way to this day, so it’s been a dream come true to get involved with our Olympic heroes in a small way. I can’t wait for the games to begin and cheer Team USA on to many medals.

“Carrying the torch — for a quarter-mile, by chance — through the streets of Columbus back in 2002 really got it going for me. We then got involved with Geoff Bodine’s charity fundraiser for a number of years and actually got to race bobsleds against our NASCAR counterparts to raise money to help in the design of better sleds for our athletes.

“Since then I’ve had the great honor of attending the Vancouver Olympics and watching our men and women do their thing up close, and we’ve also hosted many of our Olympians at the drag races. It’s been a wonderful relationship.” Continue reading From SoCal to South Korea, Pro Stock champ Jeg Coughlin Jr. ready to get things rolling
