JAMIE MCMURRAY, NO. 1 CESSNA CHEVROLET SS – Sidelined on lap 107:

THERE WAS A LOT OF CONTACT OUT THERE, BUT WHAT WAS THE FINAL STRAW?
“I think the No. 48 (Jimmie Johnson) got into the left rear and it knocked the body on the tire. I was kind of leaving it up to the team whether we pit or not because I knew they could get a better idea of what it looked like and maybe where it was hitting the tire. And then it somewhat quit smoking, which made me think maybe the body had relieved itself, but then I blew a left-rear tire going into the corner. It’s like a no-win. If you stay out and you blow a tire and you wreck, your day is done. If you pit here and you lose two or three laps, I don’t think you can get those back. So, we made the decision to stay out and ended up blowing a tire.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Martinsville–Jamie McMurray

LAS VEGAS (April 1) – Auto Club of Southern California Chevrolet Camaro Funny Car driver Robert Hight has been here before – and won.

So a No. 14 qualifying position – his spot for the NHRA Nationals this weekend at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway – doesn’t faze him.

“Luckily, our two teammates went down the track, so we’ll have their data,” Hight said. “We’re racing from a tough spot tomorrow from the bottom half, but when we get our act together, and we get this car running right – which hopefully is first round – we can beat anybody.

TALK ABOUT THE WEEK AND CELEBRATING YOUR WIN AT AUTO CLUB SPEEDWAY. WHAT DID YOU DO TO HAVE SOME FUN?
“Sunday after the race we were heading to the airport and got in a car accident on the way there. A guy ran a red light in front of us and we hit him. And then, we flew to northern California and drove to St. Helena and hung out with Rico’s (Abreu) family and my parents and a lot of our friends, which was cool. Then, I was pretty busy all week because I had the NBC guys following me for the Racing Roots thing that we were doing there; following me around my hometown. And then, Wednesday, I ran a World of Outlaws race and yesterday we flew back here. We had a lot of delayed flights and got here about midnight. It’s been a busy week but a lot of fun and it’s really cool to be the point leader still and having the speed that we’ve had. Hopefully we can keep it going and have a good weekend here at Martinsville.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Martinsville–Kyle Larson

WHERE IS GRANDFATHER CLOCK NO. 10 GOING TO GO IF YOU WIN IT THIS WEEKEND?
“In the man cave. I’ve got a great spot for it and would love to have it. It was fun listening to Kyle (Larson) one, just his honestly about a few different topics including this track. I used to drive up here depressed and not excited to compete here. And then it clicked, so I would anticipate that happening for him before long. He is just too talented of a driver. So many different types of vehicles and tracks for it not to work for him here. I think my background, once I figured out how to drive this place has lent me all the success and has really been the backbone to it all. So, looking forward to a great race. Last fall went very well for us here and looking forward to a good race this weekend.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Martinsville–Jimmie Johnson

WHAT IS IT ABOUT MARTINSVILLE SPEEDWAY THAT SUITS YOUR DRIVING STYLE?
“I think it’s a race track that when I first started I had no clue how to get around and just over the years trying to learn the techniques. It’s somewhat like a road course in the sense of the way you brake and some of the stuff you can do with the throttle and things like that. A driver can make a bit of a difference here, so more than anything just trying to learn the techniques. You still have to have a great race car. The last couple of years we’ve had a good set-up and been able to use it to have some pretty good runs. It’s just a tough race. It’s one of those races that you can’t really let your guard down mentally for 500 laps. Anything can happen, usually get a late-race restart, so a race track that has been tough, but over the last couple of years has been really good for us and hopefully can have another good run because we definitely need it.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Martinsville–AJ Allmendinger

Kasey Kahne Racing – Results Recap

Sweet Wins in Stockton

Brad Sweet and the No. 49 NAPA AUTO PARTS/ASE/Sage Fruit team won their first race of the season, and first in NAPA colors, on Saturday night in Stockton, Calif. Daryn Pittman and the No. 9 Great Clips/ASE/Sage Fruit team didn’t have the qualifying effort they were looking for, but showed championship caliber resiliency and battled back through the heats to earn a 10th-place starting spot in the feature, eventually coming home in sixth when the checkered flags flew in the A-main.

Last night in Placerville, Calif. was the third annual Brad Sweet’s Short Track Showdown at Placerville Speedway in Placerville, Calif. For the past three years, Brad has promoted the race bringing the Outlaws back to his home track. With a sold out crowd, solid car count and great track conditions, it’s been one of the more popular races on the Outlaws schedule.

Brad finished the feature around the 1/4 mile bullring in third, and Daryn came home with another sixth-place finish. The strong runs by the No. 9 team over the past few races have propelled them from sixth to fourth in the point standings.

The KKR teams head to Hanford (Calif.) tomorrow night and then Perris (Calif.) on Saturday.

Motorcraft/Quick Lane Team Gearing Up For Historic Martinsville Speedway

March 30, 2017

For Eddie Wood, co-owner of the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Fusion, this weekend’s STP 500 at Martinsville Speedway is all about the three Hs – home, history and hot dogs.

Martinsville Speedway is the home track for the Wood Brothers team, which has its roots in nearby Stuart, Va., just a 28-mile ride down U.S. 220 from the track.

The track also is just a short 45-minute drive from High Point, N.C., where driver Ryan Blaney grew up. Continue reading Motorcraft/Quick Lane Team Gearing Up For Historic Martinsville Speedway
