Dominic Scelzi Thrilled to Tackle Tasmania the Next Two Weekends With World Series Sprintcars

Inside Line Promotions – WARRNAMBOOL, Victoria, Australia (Jan. 29, 2018) – Dominic Scelzi is excited to venture to a new track in a new state this week.

Scelzi and the Wormall Motorsport team will tackle Gulf Western Independent Oils Raceway in Latrobe, Tasmania, Australia, with the World Series Sprintcars on Friday and Saturday.

“It’s always fun to be able to explore Australia and see different parts of the country,” he said. “This will certainly be a new challenge for us and one I’m looking forward to.”

Tasmania is Australia’s only island state and will host back-to-back weekends as the World Series Sprintcars will compete on Feb. 10 at Solo Hobart Speedway in New Norfolk following the doubleheader in Latrobe.

Scelzi has earned a trio of top-10 finishes during the last month in Australia. His best result of seventh place came twice and the goal for this weekend is to continue improvement.

“We’ve had some really good runs over here,” he said. “We want to get our first top five, our first podium, our first win. I’m so grateful for the opportunity Wormall Motorsport has given me and we’re working hard to earn our first victory together.”

Scelzi ranks 10th in overall points out of at least 100 competitors halfway through the 14-race World Series Sprintcars schedule. He is only 17 points behind seventh place in the standings entering this weekend’s action.

Hot Rodders of Tomorrow adds Super Summit to 2018 Event Schedule

Joliet, IL. – Hot Rodders of Tomorrow will be holding their High School Engine Challenge and the very popular Junior Engine Challenge at the Super Summit Car Show at the Summit Motorsports Park, June 8th and 9th, 2018.

Last year’s Super Summit featured cruise-ins, fun-runs, an autocross course, a cackle fest with cars of the Great Lakes Nostalgia Funny Car Circuit, a massive manufacturers’ midway and multiple commanding and car-crushing performances by Larry Swim and his Bigfoot Monster Truck.

“Summit Racing is excited to announce our partnership with Hot Rodders of Tomorrow,” said Jim Greenleaf, Summit Racing’s Motorsports Manager,” As a team sponsor and as host for the regional competition at our Super Summit event, June 8th and 9th at Summit Motorsports Park, we look forward to watching the teams compete to qualify for a spot in the finals. Getting involved with these future automotive enthusiasts builds on our current youth programs including the Summit Racing Car Show Pedal Car Challenge and the NHRA Jr Drag Racing League.”

Hot Rodders of Tomorrow now has 14 High School qualifying events scheduled throughout the nation for the 2018 season, with the season concluding at the Dual Championship in November and December at the SEMA and PRI shows.

The Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Engine Challenge is a Program that benefits Schools, Students and the Automotive aftermarket industry. They provide a stage for automotive tech classes to compete and earn college scholarships. Teams of five students tear down and reassemble a 350cu. in. Chevy engine. It is a timed event measuring speed and accuracy.

The Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Junior Engine Challenge was developed for kids between the ages of 5 and 18 years old, it’s design is to “get wrenches in their hands and grease under their finger nails” by taking apart and rebuilding Briggs & Stratton 5 Horsepower single-cylinder engines. A team consists of two members; one teammate must be 5-18 years of age. Each team will have to completely disassemble and reassemble the engine so it is functional and in running condition. Basic hand tools and equipment (supplied by HROT) must be utilized to complete this task. The contest will help develop the youngsters problem-solving, and communication skills, as well as increase self-esteem and the understanding of a working internal combustion engine.

Action Express Racing dominated by completing 808 laps and 2,876.48 miles around the 3.56-mile Daytona International Speedway, breaking a 36-year mileage record. The No. 5 Cadillac DPi-V.R held off its teammate, the No. 31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac DPi-V.R, also powered by ECR Engines.

“This was a grueling endurance race for Cadillac Racing and ECR Engines,” said Richie Gilmore, president of ECR Engines. “Congratulations to Action Express Racing for a record-setting victory. We’re thrilled we could power these teams to a 1-2 finish and give Cadillac its second-consecutive Rolex 24 championship.”

Team will turn to focus to Sebring 12 Hours

DETROIT (Jan. 28, 2018) – Corvette Racing turned in a mistake-free run with both its Chevrolet Corvette C7.Rs to post third- and fourth-place class finishes in the Rolex 24 At Daytona to open the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The result was a positive effort as Corvette Racing begins its 20th season of competition.

Antonio Garcia, class pole-winner Jan Magnussen and Mike Rockenfeller placed third in the GT Le Mans (GTLM) category with their No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R. It is the second Rolex 24 podium for the trio after they finished second two years ago, and it gives Garcia and Magnussen positive momentum as they seek to defend their GTLM Driver Championship from last year.

Chevrolet and the Corvette Racing team swept the GTLM Manufacturer, Driver and Team titles for the second straight year in 2017. Sunday’s results laid the groundwork for another strong challenge for the IMSA season. DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Jan. 28, 2018) – With just six hours remaining in the Rolex 24 At Daytona for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, both Corvette C7.R have maintained solid performances as the push to the finish quickly approaches.

Antonia Garcia relinquished the steering wheel of the No. 3 Mobil 1/Sirius XM Chevrolet Corvette to Mike Rockenfeller with just under seven hours left to race. As a result of great pit work and a subsequent perfectly timed yellow flag, the No. 3 got its lap back with the two lead cars in site.

Equaling its team car’s solid and steady run, Marcel Fassler took the cockpit of the No. 4 Mobil 2/Sirius XM Chevrolet Corvette C7 from Tommy Milner as the race headed into its final six hours. Fassler sits in fourth, one lap down to the three leaders, and six laps ahead of fifth place.

Weather was not an issue during this six-hour portion of the race, but the threat of rain exists in the forecast for the last two hours of the contest.

The final Corvette Racing update from the Rolex 24 will come after the checkered flag. Continue reading Chevy Racing–IMSA–Rolex 24 at Daytona–18 Hour Report

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Jan. 28, 2018) – The first half of the Rolex 24 At Daytona is in the books with Corvette Racing squarely in podium contention following the first 12 hours of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season. Both Chevrolet Corvette C7.Rs were keeping pressure on the lead pair in the GT Le Mans (GTLM) category as late Saturday moved into early Sunday.

Mike Rockenfeller was just off the lead GTLM lap in the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R that he shares with class pole-winner Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia. Each of the three drivers cycled through twice in the opening 12 hours with both Magnussen and Garcia triple-stinting in the darkness.

Marcel Fässler in the No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R ran fourth following a double-stint by Oliver Gavin and a triple from Tommy Milner. Those were Fässler’s first laps after a tense initial run in rainy conditions with slick tires.

Both Corvettes had a lap in-hand over the fifth-place entry. Continue reading Chevy Racing–IMSA–Rolex 24 at Daytona–Halfway

(Jan. 27, 2018) – Corvette Racing spent the first six hours of the 56th Rolex 24 At Daytona in the thick of the fight for a GT Le Mans (GTLM) class victory as night fell Saturday on Daytona International Speedway. Both Chevrolet Corvette C7.Rs ran in the top-three at multiple points in the first quarter of the opening round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

Marcel Fässler ran third in the No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R at the six-hour mark, taking over from starting driver Oliver Gavin and then Tommy Milner. As the track dried from the brief downpour, Fässler was running the quickest laps of the GTLM contenders.

JIM CAMPBELL, CHEVROLET U.S. VICE PRESIDENT, PERFORMANCE VEHICLES AND MOTORSPORTS; DOUG FEHAN, CORVETTE RACING PROGRAM MANAGER; AND CORVETTE RACING DRIVERS OLIVER GAVIN AND JAN MAGNUSSEN, met with members of the media today at Daytona International Speedway to discuss the 20th season of competition for Corvette Racing. FULL TRANSCRIPT:

JIM, WELCOME BACK TO DAYTONA. I KNOW THIS PLACE IS VERY SPECIAL FOR YOU. THIS ONE MUST BE EVEN MORE SPECIAL.
JIM CAMPBELL: “It’s great to be with everybody. Daytona is special because this is where it started for this program in January of 1999. It was a special beginning of an amazing journey that is now going into its 20th year. We couldn’t have been prouder of the teamwork that has been demonstrated year after year and race by race by this program. We are extremely proud that this is the 199th event for Corvette Racing, and we have 106 victories including three wins here in seven times with Corvette. Obviously 2001 was uniquely special with Ron Fellows, Johnny O’Connell, Chris Kniefel and Franck Freon because they not only won the class but won overall. There has been a lot of success with this program with 12 Manufacturer Championships and 11 Driver Championships. What I’m really proud of are the back-to-back championships – Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen last year, and Tommy Milner the year before. So we begin the journey here again.
“Tech transfer… what we have learned on the racetrack has helped us for sure build better Corvettes and better Corvette powertrains for the showroom and street. Learning through this series has helped us tremendously. The Corvette customers and owners are the reason we do this program. We couldn’t do it without their passion and support.” Continue reading IMSA WEATHERTECH SPORTSCAR CHAMPIONSHIP ROLEX 24 AT DAYTONA CORVETTE RACING PRESS CONFERENCE TRANSCRIPT

Q. What about 2018, are you excited?
BUBBA WALLACE: I’m beyond excited. I might not show it, but man, this is it. We’re here. We’re at the Cup level. I’m one of the Cup guys walking around today on media day. I’m not an XFINITY guy, like oh, where’s such‑and‑such, he’s in the Cup Series. I’m there now, so it’s good. I’m ready to go. We’ve got a lot of stuff that has obviously changed over the off‑season, switching over to Chevrolet, the new Camaro ZL1 is awesome looking, looks great, especially with our colors on there, that Petty blue touch to it. Moving up camp to RCR, being on campus with them, so I’m adjusting to it all, and it’s all coming together pretty good.

Q. In 2017 you had an opportunity to run some races; talk about your comfort and how you see your responsibility?
BUBBA WALLACE: Yeah, going into those four races last year, it was like, okay, this isn’t my car, this isn’t my ride, no need to throw that extra little bit out there. Let’s just get through, and we ended up having some of the best races. We were on the cusp of fighting for a top 10 there at Kentucky. Just got edged out by my good friend Blaney there, so that was ‑‑ it was good to learn in that whole process. I just wish there was that one more that year to see what we could have done at Loudon. Coming back into this year, it’s been so nice to walk into the shop and be like, hey, man, good to see you again. No restarting over. Maybe just learning names of the people that I didn’t meet from behind the scenes, front office people, parts room, stuff like that. That’s a new process for me. It’s one of those deals like, okay, we’ve got a good thing going here, so I’m excited about that. We’re ready to get to Vegas is our first on‑track test coming up here in two weeks, and then Daytona. (NO MICROPHONE) QUESTION ON THE OFF-SEASON
“It was pretty normal but it was a little different. I didn’t go to Australia this off-season, which I have for the last couple of years. I had (his son) Tanner a ton. We went to Washington. We did a lot of stuff together and I really enjoyed that. And just starting over with a new fresh start with the team and a group of people learning that. But, it’s been a little different. But, it’s still two months kind of off, which in our racing season for 15 years, it’s all pretty similar. DID YOU ENJOY WORKING WITH AJ (ALLMENDINGER)?
“I really enjoyed working with AJ. I had a blast last season and getting to know each other with fresh people. I think only two or three of our guys had worked with any of the others before. It was a tough start. Everybody has meshed really well. We have a good team and we’ve kept almost everybody in the off-season. We’re really excited about getting 2018 started with that group and I feel like we don’t have to go through the relationship building early on like we did last season. Overall, I think last season went decent. A little bit of a slow start. We had a lot of really good races, but we had a lot in between that was not something to brag about. I think the goal would be to get to a level where we could run what our good weeks were last year, make that our every week.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Charlotte Media Tour–Chris Buescher

WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR 2018?
“I’m going to focus on making the final four at Homestead. If we can win races, compete for wins every week and make the final four at Homestead, that’s a win for us. It’s the same goal I had going into last year, and really as long as you’re competitive and can capitalize on that and win some races, that sets you up for the year. That allows you to – if you win one race you’re in the Chase and if you win multiple races you can start building on those points – get to Homestead a lot easier.”

HAVE YOU GUYS TALKED ABOUT ANY EXTRACURRICULAR NASCAR STUFF?
“With the Xfinity schedule, it’s going to be a lot tougher to run as many races as I did last year. Last year I got to race a lot, but I will still be able to race some. I probably won’t be making a dirt schedule, just because off-weekend see what’s racing where, what rides I could get. I won’t make a dirt schedule, but I’ll still be able to run some dirt races. Last year, I think I ran 35 to 40 races. I won’t do that many. I’ve already done Chili Bowl, Turkey Night, and will sprinkle in a few more during the year. I don’t think I’ll be doing any more dirt racing before Daytona. Once the season starts, we go pretty hard till the middle of March, which would be my next opportunity.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Charlotte Media Tour–Chris Buescher

(NO MICROPHONE) QUESTION REGARDING BUBBA WALLACE
“If those four or five races that Bubba ran last year are any sign of what he’s going to do, I think he’s going to be really strong. Obviously they’re making a switch to Chevrolet and the RCR alliance but I felt like Bubba probably exceeded a lot of people’s expectations. He was smart on the race track. He finished every lap. He ran strong. In Kentucky he was really fast. I don’t see, with more races, why that’s going to be different.”

WHAT AREAS DO YOU WANT TO IMPROVE THIS YEAR?
“We got behind on the aero side of it last year and it was hard to catch up. But that’s what Tad and Jodi (Geschickter) and (crew chief) Ernie Cope have really focused on is to go out there and just give us everything that we need. The Hendrick Motorsports alliance, for sure, is going to be a huge help in the sim-side (simulated) of it with what they’re doing. We’ve been to the wind tunnel a lot this off-season, which is way more than we ever have. With what Kroger has done to step-up for our whole organization for myself and Chris (Buescher ). We’ve got a lot of great partners but to have Kroger on every race; I might be wrong, but I might be the only team that has that, right? The point being, they’ve been huge to kind of unite us as one team right now and make both of our race cars a lot faster. You want to be cautiously optimistic with what everything that’s been done in the off-season, I think we’re going to be a lot stronger.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Charlotte Media Tour–AJ Allmendinger
