CONFIDENCE GOING INTO NHRA THUNDER VALLEY NATIONALS
BRISTOL, Tenn. (June 12, 2019) — Brittany Force and the Advance Auto Parts Top Fuel dragster team are heading to the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals on an upward swing as they enter the 11th event on the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series third in the points standings.

After a series of first-round losses, Force and her David Grubnic and Mac Savage tuned Advance Auto Parts dragster picked-up an impressive first round win Sunday at the NHRA Heartland Nationals laying down a 3.69-second pass that has the team feeling optimistic for the remaining two races in the grueling four-in-a-row.

“I’m excited to get to Bristol. I’ve never won the race. This team, we’re finally turning a corner. We’d been struggling the last couple races but last weekend in Topeka we put a 3.69 on the board and I feel like we are definitely finding our footing moving into the next few races,” Force said.

So far this season Force has landed the Advance Auto Parts dragster in the No. 1 qualifying spot three times, each time alongside a John Force Racing teammate in the Funny Car top spot. At the historic 50th anniversary Gatornationals and the NHRA Southern Nationals, Force shared the green hat with John Force Racing President Robert Hight. In Houston, she and her father, John Force, made history as the first parent-child duo to sweep No. 1s in the professional categories. Brittany went onto win the NHRA SpringNationals at Houston Raceway Park alongside Hight. It was the third time Force and Hight had double-up wins.

While Force has never won at Bristol Dragway on Father’s Day weekend, she still calls the event her favorite on the circuit and this season she has a special surprise for the man who is responsible for her career.

“Thunder Valley, there’s nothing like it, it’s my favorite on the circuit. It’s always special because it always falls on Father’s Day,” Force said. “My dad doesn’t know but I have something special for him. Just a gift I want to give him to let him know how much I appreciate him and everything he’s done; everything he’s taught me. I think he’s going to be blown away by it. It’s going to be pretty cool.”

Qualifying for the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals begins Friday with nitro session at 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Nitro qualifying continues Saturday with sessions at 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Eliminations start at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday. Check out coverage on FS1 Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET, Saturday at 10:30 p.m. ET, and conclude with Finals coverage Sunday at 2:00 p.m. ET.

LOGANO WINS MICHIGAN WITH FORD PERFORMANCE

LOGANO WINS MICHIGAN WITH FORD PERFORMANCE

BROOKLYN, MI – June 11, 2019 – Joey Logano won the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, FireKeepers Casino 400 in a manufacturer’s shootout at Michigan International Speedway. The No. 22 Team Penske Ford Mustang recorded its second win of the season and Ford Motor Company secured the Michigan Heritage Trophy for the third consecutive race.

“Congratulations to Joey, Roger and the entire No. 22 crew,” said Doug Yates, President and CEO of Roush Yates Engines. “Joey drove an amazing racing, keeping the No. 22 Ford Mustang out front for the majority of the race! We say it all the time, but it’s true, it’s a privilege to be part of the Ford Performance team, to support Ford Motor Company and provide the power to these Ford Mustangs every week. To win the pole and race in Michigan, in Ford’s backyard, is extra special to achieve this for the Ford family.”

During qualifying on Saturday afternoon, the fast Ford Mustangs set the pace with 8 out of the top 10 qualifiers. Logano with Team Penske won the pole, followed by Stewart-Haas Racing’s Aric Almirola P2, Kevin Harvick P3, and Clint Bowyer P5, Paul Menard in P6 with Wood Brothers Racing, Brad Keselowski P8 with Team Penske, Daniel Suarez in P9 with Stewart-Haas Racing, and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. in P10 with Roush Fenway Racing.

After starting from the pole position on Monday night, Joey Logano won the first stage of the race, proving the No. 22 would be hard to pass, on his way to leading a race high 163 laps out of the 203-lap race.

As a late race caution took the race into overtime, Logano proved once again to be the leader of the race in the two-lap manufacturer’s shootout. Logano took the lead on the restart and never looked back as he took the checkered flag .147 seconds ahead of Kurt Busch to clinch his 23rd career victory.

Ford Performance marked history once again, winning the first ever race at Michigan International Speedway in 1969 with Cale Yarborough (Mercury) and Wood Brothers Racing, and on the track’s 100th anniversary Joey Logano and Team Penske recorded Team Penske’s 70th cup win with Ford.

“It feels so good,” commented Logano, when asked about the win in Victory Lane. “Winning at Michigan means so much to Team Penske and Ford, being able to pull into this victory lane and see everybody means so much. A day like that, you don’t get all the time, best car, best team, we executed perfectly all the way through and ultimately to bring this Shell Pennzoil Ford into victory lane. I just can’t thank everyone at the shop enough, everyone that built this thing Roush Yates Engines, Money Lion, SKF, everyone that helps out during this whole thing.”

“It is easy to say that the Mustang has dominated MIS this year so far,” commented Pat DiMarco, NASCAR Program Manager, Ford Performance when asked about the team collaboration in post-race interview. “Kudos to our teams, collectively and collaboratively for developing the Mustang, along with our Ford Performance aerodynamics team and of course Roush Yates Engines. That is a common denominator to our success here among all the teams. We have the best engine in the garage and that power under the hood is a huge part of our team successes.”

Six Ford Mustangs finished in the top-10. Following Logano was Suarez P4, Keselowski P6, Harvick P7, Ryan Newman P8, and Ryan Blaney P9.

In the NASCAR Xfinity Series this past Saturday, Paul Menard started from the pole position and led a race high 56 laps before finishing P4, along with Ford Performance teammate Chase Briscoe in P7.

The Xfinity teams will head to Iowa this weekend to race on Sunday. Reference the full 2019 schedule on www.roushyates.com.

Menard Finishes 13th At Michigan

Menard Finishes 13th At Michigan

June 11, 2019
Paul Menard and the No. 21 Menards/Nibco Mustang came away with a 13th-place finish in Monday’s rain-delayed FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway.

Menard was fast from the drop of the green flag, moving from his sixth starting position to third place on the opening lap then to second by lap four.

He took the yellow flag at lap 21 for a competition caution in fourth place, and remained in the lead group throughout the first Stage. He ended that segment in ninth place, earning two stage points.

He finished just outside the top 10 in the second Stage, winding up 11th after that 60-lap segment.

The final Stage saw Menard moving up and down the scoreboard as teams employed differing strategies on pit stops, with some taking four tires, others two and some fuel only. He was running second when he made his final stop, for two tires and fuel, with 22 laps remaining.

Menard was running 16th when the race’s final caution flag flew, setting up an overtime run to the checkered flag. He gained three spots in those two laps to secure his seventh top-15 finish in the 15 races run so far this season.

“We had top-10 speed just about the whole race,” Eddie Wood said. “It was hard racing all day long.”

Wood said he was happy to see his fellow Ford campaigners – Joey Logano and his No. 22 crew from Team Penske – celebrating in Victory Lane, especially at Michigan.

“We know how much it means to Edsel Ford and the people at Ford Motor Company to win here and get to keep the Michigan Heritage trophy,” he said of the coveted trophy that goes to the winning manufacturer after races at Michigan International Speedway. “I know a lot of them couldn’t stay until Monday because some had to work and others were leaving for Le Mans.”

Wood also pointed out that a good number of fans stayed over to watch the rain-delayed race.

“And it was good to see a lot of fans stick around for a Monday race that started late in the day,” he said. “I’m glad they got to see a good race.”

Racing resumes June 23 at Sonoma Raceway.
