Kasey Kahne Racing–Pittman Sweeps Feature Wins at Dodge City’s “Boot Hill Showdown”

Pittman Sweeps Feature Wins at Dodge City’s “Boot Hill Showdown”

Last week the World of Outlaws tour stopped in Brandon, South Dakota at Huset’s Speedway for a Wednesday night race, and then followed it up on Friday and Saturday with the “Boot Hill Showdown” at Dodge City Raceway Park in Kansas. Huset’s was a fairly quiet night for KKR, but Friday and Saturday at Dodge City sure wasn’t as Daryn Pittman swept the feature wins both nights.

This was the second time this season that the No. 9 team has swept weekend feature wins at the same track, bringing their season win total to nine which leads all drivers.

Teams are headed to Lima, Ohio for the Brad Doty Classic tonight and then off to Rossburg, Ohio for the two nights at Eldora. Brad Sweet and the No. 49 team look to defend their crown at the $50,000 to win Kings Royal.

Sweet backs up horrific crash with win the next night

It’s been a busy couple of weeks for the KKR teams (sorry we missed last weeks newsletter, we were in Washington for The Drive event with Kasey and Russell Wilson) and this past week there were three races in as many nights.

Cody Darrah has been on a hot streak the last five races, with finishes of 8th or better in every event. DP9 continues his championship point battle with Donnie Schatz but the big story of the week was Brad Sweet.

At 34 Raceway, Sweet made contact with another car while battling for position in the top five. The No. 49 car struck a blunt area of the wall where cars enter the pit area outside of the track and tumbled down the back stretch. When the dust settled, Sweet’s car had broken in half.

In an amazing show of sportsmanship, teammate Cody Darrah and competitors Jason Sides and David Gravel jumped out of their cars and tended to Brad before emergency workers were even on the scene.

Sweet escaped with only a banged-up ankle, but the entire 49 car was a loss. The SureTest Supplies team worked through the night to get ready for the race the following evening at Beaver Dam Raceway and the KKR teams responded to the previous night’s adversity like only the KKR teams can: by taking three of the top four finishes in the feature, with Brad Sweet winning the race.

Brad Sweet and the SureTest Supplies team brought home Kasey Kahne Racing’s series leading 12th win of the season while at Knoxville last Saturday night. It was their first win at the famed 1/2 mile oval, which is also the site of the biggest Outlaws show of the year: the Knoxville Nationals in August.

The previous night in Jackson, Minnesota all three KKR teams once again finished in the top 10.

The next World of Outlaws event is scheduled for this Friday at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, North Dakota and then the following night at I-94 Speedway in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.

Pittman red hot, wins four-straight features

When you’re hot, you’re hot. Daryn Pittman and the No. 9 Great Clips/Sage Fruit/ASE team have been on a roll the last few World of Outlaws races by capturing four straight wins. Pittman and company will be going for a WoO series record tying fifth consecutive win this Friday night at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.

The hot streak has propelled the Great Clips team from fourth to first in the series points standings.

Brad Sweet and the SureTest Supply/Sage Fruit/ASE team and Cody Darrah and the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet/Sage Fruite/ASE teams both continue to hold their spots in the top 10 in the season point standings.

All three KKR teams in top 5 at Jacksonville

On Wednesday of last week, the World of Outlaws tour stopped in Jacksonville, IL for the first time in series history. All three of the KKR teams ran up front battling for the win and all three also finished in the top 5 with Daryn Pittman leading the way in second place.

Friday night teams were at Wilmont Raceway (WI) where Cody Darrah won his first quick time award of the year, with Brad Sweet following up on his heels with a second-place qualifying effort.

Saturday night the guys headed to Tri-State Speedway, a quarter-mile track in southwestern Indiana. Brad Sweet was the top finishing KKR car in eighth, continuing his recent streak of top-10 finishes.

Tonight kicks off the first of three big rivalry races: the World of Outlaws drivers vs. the Pennsylvania Posse. “The Posse” (drivers from PA) are widely considered some of the toughest local competition for the Outlaws when they travel across the country.

KKR teams head back east

The World of Outlaws tour had two stops on their way back east after over a month out on the west coast and Texas: Salina, OK on Friday April 25th and Pevely, MO on Saturday April 26th.

All three Kasey Kahne Racing teams grabbed top-10 finishing positions at Salina Highbanks, but the race was shortened when track conditions turned unsatisfactory as it “rubbered up,” and got extremely fast. The soft tire compound made for dangerous conditions as tires began to fail throughout the field. Brad Sweet captured the KSE Hard Charger Award that evening by advancing eight spots before the checkered flag abruptly flew on lap 24 of the scheduled 30.

Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 the next night was rough for the 49 and 4 teams when both were collected in an early multi-car crash that ended their evenings. However Daryn Pittman and the 9 team finished fifth and kept the points race between the top five cars very close.

The teams returned back to the KKR shop on Sunday night late, and it was the first time dating back to early March since they had been home.

Pittman collects $20,000 win in front of huge crowd at Devil’s Bowl

Daryn Pittman and the No. 9 Great Clips/Sage Fruit/ASE team won their third race of the young 2014 season Saturday night at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas. Pittman battled Joey Saldana for the win in another back-and-forth contest before pulling away late. He maintains his points lead by eight over Paul McMahan.

Cody Darrah and the No. 4 Ollie’s team continues to climb in the standings with back-to-back top-10 finishes over the weekend, while Brad Sweet and the No. 49 bunch sit only 71 points behind Pittman in the standings in 5th place.

41% = KKR’s winning percentage to date so far this season in the World of Outlaws series. In 17 starts, KKR has found victory lane 7 times in 2014.

Darrah finds victory lane in Hanford; three-straight victories for KKR

Kasey Kahne Racing’s hot streak continued in California last weekend as Cody Darrah found victory lane at Kings Speedway in Hanford, Calif. on Friday night. It was a back-and-forth battle between all three KKR teams before a multi-car crash midway through the race eliminated both Pittman and Sweet from the event. Darrah was able to hold on and drive away from the field for his first victory of the season.

The next night cars were on track at Perris Auto Speedway, where Daryn Pittman and Joey Saldana went back-and-forth in a crowd pleasing battle for the win on a very difficult track. Brad Sweet kept the leaders in his sights while racing with a handful of other cars for third, while Cody Darrah had some bad luck early in the race with contact with another car resulted in some damage to the front wing, but he was able to drive from the back of the field to an 11th-place finish.

Last night the World of Outlaw tour stopped in El Paso, Texas for a mid-week show at El Paso Speedway Park. The Kasey Kahne Racing teams were fast again off the trailers, and all three cars were in the top 10 at the end of the 30-lap feature, with Daryn Pittman taking over the season championship standings in a tight race early in the season.

The teams head to Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas for shows Friday and Saturday night.

The STP World of Outlaws rolled into Calistoga Speedway in Calistoga, Calif. for a two-day event on April 5th and April 6th. It proved to be a banner weekend for Kasey Kahne Racing after Brad Sweet won his series leading third race of the season on night one, (Daryn Pittman sixth and Cody Darrah eighth) and on night two KKR swept the top three positions with a 1-2-3 finish with Pittman winning his second feature of the season.

All three KKR teams made the dash on Sunday, with the finishing order setting the line up for that night’s feature.

When the feature started later that night, all three KKR teams battled each other for the lead for the entire race. When the dust settled at the end of the 30-lap race, Pittman earned his second feature win of the season with Sweet and Darrah close behind. It was a podium sweep for the Mooresville, NC based race team.

Light week of racing out west

The west coast swing continues for the World of Outlaws series, but this week only saw one night of racing: Saturday the 22nd at Stockton 99.

KKR teams were fast off the truck for afternoon hot laps, while both Brad Sweet and Daryn Pittman qualified in the top five. The feature however, wasn’t as smooth when both the No. 49 and No. 9 teams were involved in a multi-car crash on lap two. Brad Sweet’s car got upside down ending his night early. Daryn Pittman and the No. 9 team were able to get back out on the track after extensive repairs, finishing the race in eighth place. Cody Darrah and the No. 4 team finished in 19th.

Brad Sweet was fast night one, but a mechanical failure relegated the No. 49 team to a 23rd-place finish, while Cody Darrah brought home another solid top-10 finish.

Night two was more of a challenge for Pittman and company with a 23rd starting spot for the feature. However at the end of the 35 lap race, Daryn had advanced to the 11th position while capturing the the Hard Charger Award advancing the most positions of the night. Brad Sweet bounced back with a fifth-place run and Cody Darrah had a hard crash after contact from another car, finishing 18th. Cody was uninjured.

2014 Season Opener: Volusia Speedway Park

Kasey Kahne Racing hoped to start the 2014 season by stopping at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, Florida for All Star Circuit of Champions action on their way to Volusia Speedway Park, but Mother Nature had other ideas as heavy rain pounded the area.

Brad Sweet won the season opening race on Friday the 14th, while Cody Darrah and Daryn Pittman finished second and third on Saturday, and Sunday night saw Pittman again racing for the win with a second-place finish and Brad Sweet having another strong night coming home in fourth.

Kasey Kahne Racing World of Outlaws Championship

Kasey Kahne Racing Secures first World of Outlaws Championship

Daryn
Pittman, driver of the No. 9 Great Clips/Sage Fruit/ ASE, did what he
needed to do at the World of Outlaws World Finals at The Dirt Track at
Charlotte to edge Donny Schatz for the 2013 World of Outlaws STP Sprint
Car Series championship.

“Congrats
to the whole team, because that’s what it is a team effort,” said
Pittman, a native of Owasso, Okla., who earned eight victories, 45
top-five finishes, 59 top-10s and 13 quick times in the No. 9 Great
Clips car this season. “That last race was not pretty. It was everything
but what we were hoping it wouldn’t be, but it worked out ok. I’ve been
a mess the last few weeks, just having way too much time to think about
it. At the end of the day I just had to settle down and trust the car
that Kale [Kahne] gave me.

“To
lead from the first race to the last race, and lead it all is something
you just dream about. Thanks to Kale, Kolten (Gouse) and Michael
(Carber) they do a great job and they’re the ones who make this a
reality. There are a lot of teams out here who have a lot of money and
good equipment and we came out on top.”

Pittman scored a 12th-place
finish on Saturday night to lock up the WoO Championship by 14 points,
the closest in WoO history. This is the first championship for Kasey
Kahne with Mike Curb, co-owners of Kasey Kahne Racing, Pittman and
sponsors Great Clips, Sage Fruit and Team ASE.

“Great
Clips has been a sponsor and friend of Kasey for over 13 years and we
are thrilled, excited and exceptionally proud of him as he takes his
first WOO Championship,” said Terri Miller
V.P. of Marketing and
Communications at Great Clips. “Way to go Kasey and Daryn – you have our
entire Great Clips system – with over 30,000 stylists celebrating your
championship.”

Kahne founded KKR in 2006 on a full-time
schedule. Pittman is the first World of Outlaws driver to ever lead the
point standings for the entire season from the first race to the last
race.

“This is what we all started out to do,”
said Kahne. “Our goal has always been to win a championship and we have
come so close, but to finally accomplish it is so surreal. These guys
work so hard year round and spend so much time away from their families,
they deserve this championship. I can’t thank them enough and the
support of Great Clips, Sage Fruit, Ollie’s Bargain Outlet, Surepoint
Medical and Team ASE.”
