THIS IS YOUR FIRST NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES RACE AT YOUR HOME TRACK. TALK ABOUT BEING HERE THIS WEEKEND AND RACING IN FRONT OF YOUR HOME CROWD.
“I’m excited, first off. We want to try and get things going and have a little better week than last week. We’re all excited about it. I know Alan (Gustafson, crew chief) and everybody has been working hard in the offseason to improve our mile-and-a-half program. I think they feel really confident in it with some things they’ve been working on. I’m excited to get out there today in practice and see how we stack up.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Atlanta–Chase Elliott

TY, YOU’RE RUNNING DOUBLE-DUTY THIS WEEKEND IN THE NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES AND THE NASCAR XFINITY SERIES. TALK ABOUT EXPECTATIONS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND.
“It’s a huge weekend. First of all, I have to thank Stewart-Haas Racing for the opportunity to be in the 14 car. I think everyone wants to see Tony (Stewart) in this car. With those unfortunate circumstances, I was able to be in the car this weekend, which is good for me to get the experience in such great equipment. I can’t thank them enough for the opportunity. It’s an honor to drive the 14 for Tony. I have high expectations for this weekend. I said it earlier in the week that I always set my goals high. I want to run good in this car. I want to do good for Tony and Stewart-Haas Racing. I don’t see why we shouldn’t be able to run in the top-10 or top-15. I’m going to give it all I have. I’ve been talking with (crew chief) Mike (Bugarewicz) all week. I want to go out there and impress a lot of people and show people what I’m made of and what I can do in these race cars. Going back and forth will help me a lot, especially in my Xfinity car. It would be nice to get two good finishes here in Atlanta.” Continue reading TY DILLON, NO. 14 BASS PRO SHOPS TRACKER BOATS CHEVROLET SS, met with members of the media at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Winter Weather At Atlanta Was Wonderful For the Woods In 1993

Winter Weather At Atlanta Was Wonderful For the Woods In 1993

February 25, 2016

Officials at the Atlanta Motor Speedway are offering a good weather guarantee for this weekend’s Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500, hoping to reassure fans that there won’t be a repeat of bad weather like the weekend in 1993. That year, a blizzard dumped nearly a foot of snow on the track and forced the postponement of the Motorcraft Quality Parts 500 until the following Saturday.

Eddie Wood, co-owner of the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Fusion driven by Ryan Blaney, is among those who wouldn’t mind a repeat of ‘93. Continue reading Winter Weather At Atlanta Was Wonderful For the Woods In 1993

The Series takes on Cotton Bowl Speedway on Feb. 26 and Royal Purple Raceway on Feb. 27
CONCORD, N.C. – Feb. 24, 2015 – The World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series added a familiar name in the off-season to its roster of full-time competitors – Greg Wilson.

Wilson, a two-time All Star Circuit of Champions champion, leaves Volusia Speedway Park and DIRTcar Nationals with his eyes open and excitement over the challenge ahead.

The opportunity to compete full-time with the series began last July as Wilson talked with longtime sponsor Hercules Tire. Through months of discussions toward renewal and several high points last summer, including his first World of Outlaws win which came at Eldora Speedway’s 4 Crown Nationals, Wilson and Hercules agreed it was time to make the move. An Overall Sucessful Speedweeks For The Motorcraft/Quick Lane Team and The Wood Brothers

An Overall Sucessful Speedweeks For The Motorcraft/Quick Lane Team and The Wood Brothers

February 21, 2016

For Eddie Wood, co-owner of the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Fusion, a 19th-place finish in the 58th running of the Daytona 500 isn’t the only yardstick to use in judging the team’s trip to Daytona Speedweeks 2016.

On track, Ryan Blaney and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane team showed speed throughout, starting with a seventh-place run in pole qualifying, which assured the team of a starting berth in the Great American Race. Then, in Thursday’s Can-Am Duel qualifying races, Blaney bounced back from a lap down midway through the race to finish a strong third.

And in the 500, he ran at the front of the pack, in the top 10 and top 15, for much of the race before a four-tire pit stop left him mired deep in the pack, without many opportunities to work his way back to the front. Ty Dillon Finishes 25th in Second-Career Daytona 500

Ty Dillon drove the No. 95 Cheerios/Kroger Chevrolet SS to a 25th-place finish in Sunday afternoon’s Great American Race. Dillon managed to keep his Chevy clean for the entire 200-lap race, giving the team positioning at the end to make a charge. Dillon ultimately finished 25th, an improvement from his finish a season ago.

Start – 12th Finish -25th Laps Led – 0 Points – N/A

TY DILLON QUOTE:
“Man, that was a lot of fun, but also a really long and taxing race. I’m proud of our efforts in today’s race and this whole speed week. I learned a lot, mainly to give yourself a chance at the end, and was proud of Todd (Parrott, crew chief) and the crew for their hard work. I’m looking forward to racing this No. 95 Chevrolet again, later this season.”

Austin Dillon and the Dow Racing Team Earn Redemption at Daytona International Speedway with Top-10 Finish in Daytona 500

Start – 21 Finish – 9 Laps Led – 1 Points – 9

“What a fun Daytona 500 and a good result especially compared to the finish I had here last July. Near the end of the race we restarted in the sixth position on the top line and that hurt us because the bottom line was the line that was moving best the entire race. It was hard to get those guys off of it. That’s actually what got us up there was being in that bottom line. I wish we could have gotten in that bottom line because it was really fast. When I was at the top I was just trying to get in to the bottom. It was a good comeback there to get us a top 10 finish. When the No. 20 car went high it kind of helped us out. We split him three wide in the middle and it was crazy back there at 200 mph. Daytona has gotten much slicker and I think you’re going to see a lot of fun racing now because of how slick it is. You have to work on your car’s handling now just because of how slick it is out there. It was all about handling and my guys did a good job. We were pretty far off at the beginning of the race. I was tight at the exit of the corners. By the end of the race I had a loose racecar but it was fun! We needed a little more speed off the corners. The No. 3 team did great with pit strategy. I’m proud of my guys. I just have to thank Dow and everybody involved with this program. We have a team and car capable of winning and we’re going to do it.”

Paul Menard Finishes 18th in the PEAK Antifreeze & Coolant/Menards Chevrolet at Daytona International Speedway

Start – 37 Finish – 18 Laps Led – 0 Points – 18

“Today we started out really strong and were able to move up through the pack with no problem. I would say about halfway through the race we just started going backwards. Contact with the No. 23 caused some left-rear quarter panel damage which really affected the aero on our car. Handling from there was a struggle, then we got some nose damage that caused overheating. Luckily, my guys are fast on pit road and were able to make adjustments while keeping us on the lead lap. In the closing laps, Billy (O’Dea, spotter) pushed me hard on the radio and we got all the positions we could.”

– PAUL MENARD

Handling Key in Ryan Newman & the Cat Racing Team’s 2016 Daytona 500

Start – 38 Finish – 11 Laps Led – 1 Points – 11

“That was a hard-fought finish for us, that’s for sure. We waited it out and when it was time to go we got in the low line and it moved okay. For the most part we were tight all day but the Caterpillar crew worked on it for me to race up there and almost walk away with a top-10. I’m proud of my guys and glad we can bring the Cat car home in one piece.”

“I was hoping that they (the leaders) would start pushing and shoving like they did to get that outside lane going,” said Harvick, the 2007 Daytona 500 champion. “You just want to be the first one to be in that outside line. Denny (Hamlin) pulled up in front of us and he got the honor of being the first car in that line with all that momentum.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Daytona 500 Post Race

To kick off the 2016 season, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series teams traveled to Daytona Beach, Florida for the NextEra 250. In two practice sessions on Thursday afternoon at Daytona International Speedway, Timothy Peters posted the fastest time and second fastest time and Ben Kennedy was third and ninth on the board. On Friday afternoon, teams completed two rounds of knockout, single-truck qualifying. Peters transferred into the final round, securing the third starting position. Kennedy used a provisional starting position to start 31st after smoke out of his Tundra caused him to abort his qualifying run. After getting caught up in a wreck on lap 93, Kennedy ended the night with a 23rd-place finish, with Peters finishing 15th after involvement in a multi-truck incident on the last lap. Matt Sheppard wins thrilling Super DIRTcar Series victory
BARBERVILLE, Fla. – Feb. 18, 2016 – Josh Richards dominated the World of Outlaws Craftsman® Late Model Series DIRTcar Nationals opener on Thursday night at Volusia Speedway Park.

Richards, a three-time series champion, took the top position in his qualifying group earlier in the night and then battled through lapped traffic and held off Dale McDowell in the 50-lap feature to score his first series win of the season. The 27-year-old Richards entered DIRTcar Nationals with a string of wins and top-five runs, and built momentum into the series opener.

“It has been a lot of fun,” Richards said. “We gambled a little bit on tires, so I was kind of nervous and didn’t know how it was going to hold up. We got stuck in lapped traffic and actually moved up [the race track] and gained speed. Ty Dillon Avoids Wreck, Finishes Fifth in Duel No. 2

Ty Dillon avoided catastrophe in the final laps of Duel No. 2 Thursday night at Daytona International Speedway and drove the No. 95 Cheerios/Kroger Chevrolet SS to a fifth-place finish. Dillon was racing outside the top ten when the “big one” happened, but he dove low on the race track and missed having his car damaged. The fifth place finish qualified Dillon 12th for the 58th running of the Daytona 500 this Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.

Start – 8th Finish -5th Laps Led – 0 Points – N/A

TY DILLON QUOTE:
“What an exciting finish. I’m fortunate to have a great spotter on top of the roof, my dad, Mike Dillon – he’s one of the best in the business. It’s a great feeling to be in the Daytona 500 for the second consecutive year. More importantly, our race car has very minimal front-end damage from contact with the 20 car. We’ll be fine for the race Sunday. Great to see our teammate, Michael McDowell, make the race tonight, too. I want to thank Circle Sport and the Leavine Family, Cheerios and Kroger. We’ll be competing for a win on Sunday.”

Austin Dillon Runs as High as Third in Duel at Daytona before Securing 11th-Place Finish in Dow Chevrolet

Start – 5 Finish – 11 Laps Led – 0 Points – N/A

“That was a good race. I have to thank Dow and everybody involved in this program. I’m proud of my guys because they put a lot of hard work and effort into this Chevy. I was hoping for a win tonight and tried to be as aggressive as I could. I just got put in the middle and went to the back on the last lap. We got to the front a few times, but just didn’t have enough steam to hold us up there. We were close though and I learned a lot tonight. We got through the race in one piece which is what we needed because it pays on Sunday. I feel like we have a solid car for the Daytona 500.”

Paul Menard Finishes 21st in PEAK Antifreeze & Coolant/Menards Chevy in Duel at Daytona

Start – 9 Finish – 21 Laps Led – 0 Points – N/A

“I only have positive things to say after tonight’s race. We made some changes and learned a lot. I think the car was a lot better than practice and we feel confident heading into Sunday’s race. I’m proud of this team and how hard they’ve worked this week to get the car where it needs to be. Our Chevy ran really well during the race, maybe just a little more free than practice, but I was happy with the changes we made. We got some debris on the grille which hurt us in the long run and forced us to the garage a little early. Overall, I’m happy with how tonight went and looking forward to Sunday.”

Mechanical Issues Slow Ryan Newman to 22nd-Place Finish in Duel at Daytona

Start – 7 Finish – 22 Laps Led – 0 Points – N/A

“This is definitely not the Speedweeks we were expecting so far. We had a fast Caterpillar Chevrolet. I barely had to lift before we had an issue under the hood. We felt it was in our best interest to bring the Cat Chevy to the garage to diagnose the issue. Something is definitely off here and we’ll figure it out. I am confident what we have planned for the Daytona 500 is even better than what we had planned for this Duel. We will be fine.”

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON HOW THIS DUEL PLAYED OUT?
“It was fairly uneventful until the last 10 laps. I was shocked that that second group was able to catch us. But it seems like that’s the way these always work out. You get strung out and then with five to go it always packs back up. The lap cars played a little bit of a factor with some guys getting a little bit of a draft of them. You just had to be either in the middle or the outside. You couldn’t be stuck on the bottom. When the 20 (Matt Kenseth) got stuck on the bottom, he was able to make up a little bit of ground but the outside was just the preferred groove.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Can-Am Duel#2 Post Race

POST RACE PRESS CONFERENCE TRANSCRIPTS:
DALE EARNHARDT JR., NO. 88 NATIONWIDE CHEVROLET SS ~ RACE WINNER

THE MODERATOR: We are now joined by the winner of the first Duel tonight, Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Dale, talk about holding off the 22 and the 4 at the end.

DALE EARNHARDT JR.: That was crazy. You know, had to just go where they were going. Everybody knows how important getting the lead is at this race.
I knew how important it was to keep it so I had to do everything I could, get pretty aggressive at blocking and getting in front of them and trying to not allow them to get up on the quarter panel. They had a great car. I know that’s evident. But this car is something special.
I was so nervous today about tearing the car up because I know how good it is versus what we have. What we have is a capable car in the trailer, but this thing is special. So I’m real excited.
Hopefully we can get through these next few practices and be able to put the car on the grid on Sunday. Whatever happens after that, I don’t really care.
I was so nervous. It’s such a tough balance because you got to go out there and try to win, but you can’t tear up your car. You got to race like tearing up the car don’t matter. It’s really crossing your fingers and hoping you get to the finish with the car in one piece.
We did, so I was real happy with that. Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Can-Am Duel #1 Post Race

TALK ABOUT THE PASS FOR THE LEAD AT THE END?
“I really don’t know. Denny (Hamlin) is such a great plate racer. There are a lot of guys that are really good at it these days. I knew he was going to be real tough to get around. When he got the lead I didn’t know if we were going to be able to get around him. He has got a great car and he is real smart. For whatever reason I was able to get to his quarter-panel, he saw we had a pretty good run. I don’t know, I didn’t think I was going to clear him. We got away from him so he couldn’t side draft us I guess. You will have to talk to him how it worked out for him. I was really surprised as anybody that we got by him. He will be tough on Sunday.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Can-Am Duel 1–Dale Earnhardt Jr.
