Dominic Scelzi Posts Pair of Top 10s During World of Outlaws West Coast Swing

Inside Line Promotions – HANFORD, Calif. (Sept. 21, 2022) – Dominic Scelzi is eager to move forward following a frustrating West Coast swing with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series.

“I was disappointed with our performance throughout the Outlaws swing,” he said. “We didn’t have momentum on our side, yellow flags fall our way or things go our way. It was unfortunate because that’s the month we wanted to have the most success. We just missed it on the car some nights and I made some mistakes.

“The best thing to do after a tough month of racing is to put your head down and get back to work. We have a busy two months ahead in October and November. I want to end the season strong. We’re leading the NARC points and want to close out a second straight championship. We have eight wins and want to get over the 10-win mark.”

Scelzi is taking the good out of the World of Outlaws three-weekend swing through Washington and California. He highlighted the Sage Fruit Skagit Nationals at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash., with a 10th-place result on Sept. 2.

“We went out late in qualifying and the track fell off and we didn’t qualify well,” he said. “But in the heat race we were good and advanced from sixth to fourth. In the feature I got into the fence off turn two and knocked the Jacob’s Ladder off of it. From that point it was hard to move forward, but we were able to hold our own for a top 10.”

Scelzi charged from 20th to 13th at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash., on Sept. 5 and he posted a pair of top 15s the following weekend during the Gold Cup Race of Champions at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif.

Scelzi’s best outing during the World of Outlaws swing was last Friday at Keller Auto Speedway, where he rallied from eighth to fifth place in a heat race and from 17th to ninth during the Tom Tarlton Classic main event.

“The track almost seemed like it had sand on it,” he said. “It wasn’t a normal Hanford. It was a tough track condition. I think it helped with us having experience there even though the track conditions were different. We were good in the main event and made good decisions. All in all, it was good to end the Outlaws swing with our best night.”

The team also posted a podium performance the previous night during a 360ci winged sprint car show at Keller Auto Speedway, where Scelzi set quick time during qualifying, gained a spot to finish third in a heat race and hustled from seventh to third in the A Main.

Scelzi plans to take this weekend off before resuming competition Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 at Silver Dollar Speedway during the Fall Nationals.
