Crew Chief Commentary
Hear from two of the top Crew Chiefs in Pro Stock as they share their thoughts on the Big Go, the NHRA U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis. Tim Freeman and Mark Ingersoll are Crew Chiefs for Elite Motorsports, the largest drag racing team in the NHRA featuring Erica Enders, Bo Butner, Troy Coughlin Jr., Aaron Stanfield, and the Cuadra family race team.
RegardingTim FreemanMark IngersollPreparing For Indy“I would say that our teams prepare for Indy no different than any other race, although it is the biggest race for Pro Stock. It can turn a not-so-great season into a great one.”“I would say preparing for Indy is a little different than just any race. Everyone wants to win Indy a little more than any other race. You really have to make sure you have all your ducks in a row.”Fastest SessionFriday night qualifying is the fastest session most of the time, so we have to be ready to make a really good run right out of the box.”“Usually the first run on Friday night is the best of the weekend. There are so many cars at Indy that the starting line takes a beating over the weekend and loses grip over time.”Getting Five Qualifying Runs“Five qualifying runs gives us that much more data to prepare us for eliminations on Monday.”“I’m not really a fan of the five qualifying runs. I think three is plenty. It is so important to get off to a good start.”Strategy
“It’s Indy. You’ve got to give it everything you’ve got!”“This race is the last before the countdown starts and it is so important to have that momentum going in.”Unknowns“The weather dictates so much of everything we do from the tires to the gears, and engine tuneup and car set up.”“We have some new partsthat we’ve been working on for a few months and will be testing them before Indy. The goal all along was to have them tested before the race.”
