Dominic Scelzi Battles for Win Before Misfortune Strikes During Season Opener

Inside Line Promotions – HANFORD, Calif. (Feb. 26, 2020) – Dominic Scelzi enjoyed a strong start to the season last Saturday at Keller Auto Speedway, where he contended for a victory before a mechanical problem ended the night early.

“It went really good to start with,” he said. “We timed in decent. The track was getting faster when we went out, but we had a good time and that put us in a good spot for the heat.”

Scelzi qualified seventh quickest before he won a heat race to lock into the dash.

“We led every lap and won the heat,” he said. “In the dash it went green and the guy on the outside turned down a little early. We made contact with our wheels and I slid up the track. That put me back to fourth, which started me fourth for the main.

“We went fourth to third on the first corner and then got to second. Honestly I was biding my time. I felt good on the top and bottom. We had a restart around Lap 15 or Lap 16. We went one lap and then it popped.”

Scelzi was running second when the mechanical problem occurred near the midpoint of the feature. He was unable to finish the race and was credited with a 16th-place finish.

Next up will be his debut at Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria, Ariz., this Friday and Saturday during a Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour doubleheader.

“I want to say a big thank you to Dennis and Teresa Roth as well as Todd Ventura and the Roth Motorsports team for loaning us an engine so we can race this weekend,” Scelzi said. “I want to move forward and run up front both nights. The goal is to win and I think we’ll be capable of winning. With never being there before and the pill draw format of ASCS, hopefully stuff will fall our way.”
