Dominic Scelzi Nets Top Five During KWS-NARC Season Finale to Finish Third in Championship Standings

Inside Line Promotions – STOCKTON, Calif. (Nov. 4, 2019) – Dominic Scelzi finished third in the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Series championship standings after recording a top-five run last Saturday during the season finale hosted by Stockton Dirt Track.

“We didn’t lose the championship on Saturday,” he said. “We lost it throughout the year. It’s unfortunate, but at the end of the day it’s the results that we earned.

“I want to thank Dennis and Teresa Roth, Todd Ventura and the whole Roth Motorsports team for the opportunity. Also, thank you to Scotty Martin. We’ve won seven races together this year, six last year and three the year before.”

Scelzi qualified sixth quickest to kick off the action on Saturday. He advanced from third to second place in a heat race and from fifth to fourth place in the dash to garner the fourth starting position for the A Main.

“In hot laps I think we were a little snug,” he said. “We were even tighter in qualifying and didn’t get the laps we needed. That put us further behind the eight ball. We made progress in the heat and dash. They watered the track before the main event. There was standing water on the track when they threw the green flag. We fell back to seventh or eighth and got back to fifth.”

Scelzi rebounded from the tough start to rally back into the top five and finish fifth. It marked his 28th top five of the season.

Scelzi also competed at the oval on Friday, timing in 17th quickest, placing fifth in a heat race and exiting the track early during the main event.

“That was a different car than our 410 car and we had some mechanical issues,” he said. “In the heat race we ran fifth, which started me 16 th in the feature. I was running around 15th and there was no passing. The track was wide open around the bottom. It wasn’t worth tearing up our equipment so I pulled off about 10 laps in.”

Scelzi is heading east this week to tackle the Can-Am World Finals Thursday through Saturday at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C. He nearly recorded a top 10 during the marquee World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series event last year and was on pace to garner a top five at the track earlier this year, but a tire problem hampered his result both times.

“I’m looking forward to ending the Outlaws season in Charlotte,” he said. “We had a good run going last year and at the Patriot Nationals this year before we blew a tire. I’m hoping we can have similar speed, but with better luck.”
