Allen Johnson’s Tenacious Spirit is Main Motivator to Succeed in Sonoma

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (July 25, 2017) – Perseverance. This word can be used to describe the 2012 Pro Stock World Champion team that goes to battle week in and week out with Marathon Petroleum/J&J Racing’s Allen Johnson at the helm. This week is no different as they make their way to Sonoma, California for the 30th annual NHRA Sonoma Nationals held at Sonoma Raceway.

With an early exit at the Mopar Mile High Nationals last week in Denver, Johnson is looking forward to translating their performance gains into round wins on raceday.

“We need some luck,” Johnson laughed. “I feel really good about our performance right now and we have gained a lot but we keep running into a dang brick wall with unfortunate circumstances on raceday like we did in Denver. We just gotta keep diggin’ and not panic; the luck will turn around for us sometime and I hope it is soon.”

Johnson had an impressive wire-to-wire win in 2012 at Sonoma Raceway when he was No. 1 qualifier and took out Greg Anderson in the final round to take top honors.

“I won the silver 25th anniversary Wally and it’s different than any other trophy I have,” he said. “That trophy will always be special to me.”

Qualifying begins on Friday, July 28th with two runs at 4:15 and 7:00 p.m. Two more qualifying sessions will take place on Saturday, July 29th at 1:10 and 4:20 p.m. Eliminations are scheduled to begin on Sunday, July 30th at 11:00 a.m.
