Giovanni Scelzi Scores Second Straight KWS-NARC Win to Take Points Lead

Inside Line Promotions – TULARE, Calif. (June 12, 2017) – Giovanni Scelzi continued his hot streak last Saturday when he secured his second straight King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Series victory and his third win in the last four races to climb atop the championship standings.

Scelzi and the Roth Motorsports team kicked off the night at Thunderbowl Raceway by setting quick time during qualifying.

“We had a brand new Kistler engine in and it ran amazing,” he said. “I knew if I made smooth laps in qualifying we’d be hard to beat. We put ourselves in a good position from the start of the night.”

Scelzi then advanced from fourth to third place in a heat race and from third to second place in the dash. Since the dash winner elected to start near the back of the field for a chance to earn more money Scelzi lined up on the pole for the 30-lap A Main.

“The track was really slick to start the feature,” he said. “It took rubber about five laps in and after that we checked out. I’d never been able to put a whole night together at Thunderbowl so to win with a 410 is pretty cool.”

Scelzi opened the weekend the previous night at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, Calif., where he established quick time during qualifying, placed fourth in a heat race and advanced from sixth to fourth place in the dash. That lined him up on the outside of the second row for the main event.

“I got slid at the beginning and fell to fifth, but slowly made my way back toward the front,” he said. “Me and D.J. (Netto), who was leading the race, were even in open air. He was more aggressive in traffic. I would have probably ended second, but the left front suspension broke with three laps remaining while I was running second.”

Scelzi will return to action this Saturday at Petaluma Speedway in Petaluma, Calif., with the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Series.
